Barchester Towers

"Barchester Towers" is the second novel in Anthony Trollope's "Barsetshire" series. Set in the fictional town of Barchester, it continues the story from the first book, "The Warden." After the death of the old bishop, Dr. Grantly hopes to succeed him but is instead overshadowed by the appointment of the strict Sabbatarian, Dr. Proudie, as the new bishop. Dr. Grantly finds himself in conflict not with the bishop, but with his formidable wife, Mrs. Proudie, and the bishop's chaplain, Mr. Slope.
