Welcome to Believe Together, a Churches Together in Kincham Salt Lake production for KTCRFM 105.8 and online. This is my story, this is my song, Praising my Saviour all the day long. Blessed is the Lord as He is in Christ, Lord of all things of glory divine, Heaven from Asia, earth and the sky, Lord of His killing, of His death and life. This is my story, this is my song, Praising my Saviour all the day long. Heaven from Asia, earth and the sky, Visions of rapture set forth by night, Angels descending straight from above, Angels of mercy, angels of love. This is my story, this is my song, Praising my Saviour all the day long. I praise my Saviour, holy and fair, I praise my Saviour, my God, He is there, Watching and waiting, looking above. This is my story, this is my song, Praising my Saviour all the day long. This is my story, this is my song, Praising my Saviour all the day long. This is my story, this is my song, Praising my Saviour all the day long. This is my story, this is my song, Praising my Saviour all the day long. Hello again, Peter here. Let's enjoy this hour coming up. This is Believe Together Once Again. Now, that was a lovely opening there, wasn't it? A very rousing old chorus. There it was sung by the Celebration Choir, Blessed Assurance. Maybe, for some of you, that might ring bells from the Billy Graham rallies of 1984. I don't know, but I enjoyed it anyway. Indeed. Hello, I'm Cheddy, back with you again. Now, I wonder what sort of week you've had, and what things you've been watching on television, or have you watched television? Well, we're giving Celia a rest again this week from doing the Just for Fun quiz, so I thought, now, what can I ask? Well, I've cheated a bit because I've found some questions from the television. There's a programme that's been on not so long as others, and it's called Impossible, it's at lunchtime. And I really like that quiz show, and so I've got a few bits and pieces I've pinched from there, really. So here's the first question. Now, you may know the answer if you've been watching Impossible. Now, what's the name of a chef's hat, you know, that tall white thing? Well, is it a Beretta, B-I-R-E-T-T-A? Is it a Berman, B-I-R-M-A-N? Or is it a toque, T-O-Q-U-E? We'll give you the answer later. I must say, I did not know what the answer was. Well, you certainly couldn't get a question much more obscure than that, could you? I certainly did not know the answer. And now, for the Thought for the Week for the Keynesham Talking Newspaper. John Fishing. Hello, it's John Hayes, the Methodist minister in Keynesham, and it's good to be with you again. I said last week, if you were able to hear the reflection, that the whole month of September was being recognised as the season of creation. I love to spend some of my spare time in the outdoors, but I must say at the outset that I'm no Bear Grylls. I usually check the weather forecast first, and only go out when it's going to be fair or better. Being outdoors really does make a difference. Sensing the peace and quiet, panoramic views and sounds, the sound of birds and wildlife. When I was a teenager, me and many of my friends would go fishing. As my friends mostly lived in Kingswood and Hanham, we would often come down to the Avon at the Chocolate Factory and fish there. I remember fishing at the Weir in Keynesham as well. Well, fifty years on, I've picked up some second-hand rods and I've started to go out fishing again, this time on my own. Our River Chew is a beautiful river with a wide variety of fish. It's not really a river for sitting in one place, it's a river to rove up and down. So for a couple of hours on a summer evening before it gets dark, it's lovely to be at peace, listening and carefully watching as the float moves down the river, occasionally getting some attention from any interested fish. I have to say that fifty years on, our rivers are a lot cleaner than they used to be. Millions of pounds have been spent on cleaning up, preventing sewage and industrial discharge, restocking with fish and changing some of the chemicals and additives that are used in farming. We seem to be really starting to make a difference to this part of our wonderful creation. But unfortunately, as you will have no doubt heard, this doesn't seem to be the priority it once was. There are now many reports of problems with our waters, both inland and out at sea. What is most disturbing is that many of the problems being created often seem to be within the rules. So we now have people becoming ill after going wild swimming. Fish, birds and wildlife are being killed. How sad! We seemed to be learning, we seemed to be committed to making a difference, but now it's as if all of those improvements never really happened. As a Christian, I have become acutely aware of the contrast between God's original intentions and desires for this beautiful creation and how many in our world experience it today. So maybe if we tried out some of the Maker's instructions, we might find ourselves experiencing a very different prospect for our world. Maybe rivers flowing with justice and mercy and clean waters could be a real prospect. Well, it's goodbye for now. Grace and peace to you all. Oceans weep for beauty lost, and forests plead for your return. Fields are drenched in tears and blood, all nature grows beneath sin's curse. Have mercy, have mercy, have mercy on us, Lord. Renew us, restore us, have mercy on us, Lord. People's rage and nation's rise to war and waste for senseless gain, turning foreign creation's cries and trading glory in for shame. Have mercy, have mercy, have mercy on us, Lord. Renew us, restore us, have mercy on us, Lord. Lead us in your Eden call to live as those who bear your name. Show us how to love your world until the day you come again. Have mercy, have mercy, have mercy, on us, Lord. Have mercy, have mercy, have mercy on us, Lord. Renew us, restore us, Lord. Renew us, restore us, have mercy on us, Lord. Thank you, John, for your thought for the week and for that very thought-provoking song called Hear the Song of Our Lament from Resound Worship. A slow, meditative lament indeed. Food for us to think about. Yep. Now, let's get back to our Just for Fun quiz already, shall we? With our second question. So, here it is. Which character from children's TV works in the village of Pontypandy? Is it Postman Pat, Fireman Sam, or Noddy? Hmm. I wonder if you know the answer to that, Peter. Er, well... Don't tell us if you do. No, I... I'm not sure. Well, I'm sure there are lots of GIFs involved at various points in all those children's TV programmes. So, here's something else about GIFs from my Leprosy Mission Diary Verse for the week which says Every good and perfect gift is from above coming down from the Father of the heavenly light who does not change like shifting shadows That's in the Book of James. Every good and perfect gift comes down from God above There's never any doubt He always has enough He doesn't move, He does not change He's always here with us Every good and perfect gift is filled with love, love, love, love, love God knows what we need He wants us to trust and see that His love will exceed more than we believe God is by our side ready to lead and guide He will be our light His love runs deep and wide Every good and perfect gift comes down from God above There's never any doubt He always has enough He doesn't move, He does not change He's always here with us Every good and perfect gift is filled with love, love, love, love, love God wants us to trust He has a lot for us His love is true and just He'll always be with us Every good and perfect gift comes down from God above There's never any doubt He always has enough He doesn't move, He does not change He's always here with us Every good and perfect gift is filled with love, love, love Every good and perfect gift comes down from God above There's never any doubt He always has enough He doesn't move, He does not change He's always here with us Every good and perfect gift is filled with love, love, love, love, love Wasn't that great? Do any of you remember learning Bible verses in school or Sunday school? Or maybe you've done it just quite recently? I don't know But this sort of song could really help any of us, I think, to do that That was the Justin Graves Band with Every Good and Perfect Gift One of our good friends, David Brisington produces a very different show on this radio station Let's hear him tell you all about it Hi, I'm Dave Brisington and it's my pleasure to present The Country Hour on KTCR 105.8 FM You will hear classic country hits old and new plus news on local clubs and gigs Looking forward to spending this hour with you Until then, keep it country! You're listening to Believe Together A Churches Together in Keynsham and Salford production for KTCR FM 105.8 and online Hello everybody The Reverend Stephen McCaw is my name I'm about to retire which I'm looking forward to I've been Rector of the Anglican Parish of Keynsham that includes the town and the three villages of Burnett, Queen Charlton and Tutankhamen for the last 13 years and I'm about to retire which is why Peter Morgan has invited me to say a few words on Believe Together to mark my retirement and to say thank you to those of you who have been part of the Keynsham community of which I've been a part for these last few years I say few years 13 years is the longest I've ever done in any job in my entire working life When I was a doctor we used to move around quite often in our training jobs and when I was ordained I worked first as a Curate in Norfolk and then as a Rector in Oxfordshire before coming here in 2010 It's been a great place to live and work and minister Keynsham It's a wonderful community to be part of with its strong sense of community life and cohesive togetherness of the churches of the town I want to suggest if I may two pieces of music The first piece of music is a piece of music from the St John's Church Choir One of the great strengths of St John's Church as well as being at the heart of the community is its musical life and its choir is excellent and here's a piece of music that was recorded by the choir some years ago When in our music God is glorified and the words continue and adoration leaves no room for doubt and the words continue and adoration leaves no room for pride it is as though the whole creation cries Alleluia! Enjoy, it's a lovely piece of music from the St John's Church Choir Alleluia! O come all ye faithful Joyful and triumphant With triumphant song Sing all ye faithful Joyful and triumphant Sing all ye faithful Joyful and triumphant Alleluia! For as the church is big and strong In faith and love through centuries gone wrong For this is true and true, yes it's true Alleluia! And since our Jesus Came to stop our cry And our poor creature Began to cry Then let us sing For whom we once cried Alleluia! Let ev'ry angel Sing alleluia Sing alleluia Sing alleluia Sing alleluia Sing alleluia Sing alleluia Sing alleluia Sing alleluia Sing alleluia Sing alleluia Sing alleluia Sing alleluia Sing alleluia Amen! That was a track from the St John's Church Choir singing When in Our Music God is Glorified It is though the whole creation cried Alleluia It's been an interesting time in Kynsham I'm coming to the end I retire on the 17th of September and say goodbye to all the good folk who have been part of the churches of Kynsham and also you good folk who have been part of the town I've had like you would expect some good moments and some sad moments and some difficult moments and some memorable moments and I guess one of the truisms that's true for all of us is that we're only passing through whether it be that we've lived in Kynsham all our lives and we're now in our 80s or whether we're only in Kynsham for a short time because we're about to move somewhere else however long we've been in Kynsham we're only passing through this world we're in Kynsham for a short time and then we move on to the next and in that change that is inevitably part of our life what solidity God offers is amazing that solidity of a sureness that He is there, our courage and our hope our support and our help and my final piece of music by way of goodbye goodbye from me the Reverend Stephen McCaw Team Rector in Kynsham is the piece of music I first heard on the radio station Lauren Daigle's You Say amidst all the changes of life and all the different opinions that we have of ourselves and other people have of us God's unremitting positive loving regard for us is a solid anchor in all the changes of life God says He loves us goodbye from me Am I to say I'm not enough? www.believetogetherradio.com www.believetogetherradio.com www.believetogetherradio.com www.believetogetherradio.com www.believetogetherradio.com We are here And we shall stand At the landing Upon the earth Upon the earth Was, of course, the classical beauty of Handel's Messiah. Just an excerpt there. And, in contrast, we'll just play a small excerpt from a more modern worship song which starts with the same verse. I know that my Redeemer lives I know that my Redeemer lives I know that my Redeemer lives And ever prays for me A token of His love He gives A pledge of liberty Jesus I am On every word I steadfastly believe You will return And claim me Lord And to Yourself receive And we will lift You up Hallelujah Holy is our God We will worship You And honor Your Name Holy is the Lamb Hallelujah Your Name and Majesty Glory to our God Forever and ever Well, I'm sure you are now all eagerly anticipating the answers to our Just for Fun quiz questions. So here they come. I wonder if you knew any of these answers. So, first of all, I asked What is a chef's hat called? Is it a beretta, a berman or a toque? Well, I will tell you the answer is toque. Now, I don't know if you knew that. I certainly didn't. That is a chef's hat. It just so happens that a berman is not even a hat. It is a cat. And a beretta is a square cap that Catholic clergy wear. So, if you go to a Roman Catholic church, you might have known that. But anyway, the toque is a chef's hat. You'll never forget that, will you? Now, what was number two? Ah, yes. Which character from children's TV works in a village of Pontybundy? Now, I had a feeling it was Postman Pat. It sort of sounds Welsh. But no, I was wrong. It was Fireman Sam. I love watching Fireman Sam too. Well, I did do when I watched it with children and grandchildren. Yes, so did I. Good, I'm glad you did, Peter. Anyway, apparently Fireman Sam lived and worked in the village of Pontybundy. As it happens, Postman Pat was in Greendale. Of course he was. And Noddy, that very ancient Noddy, I believe he was from Toyland. Now, question number three was about the Talk Like a Pirate Day, wasn't it? Oh, yes. Which pirate ship was captained by Blackbeard? Well, I knew one that definitely wasn't, but I didn't know which one was. Of course, the definitely wasn't one was the Royal Yacht Britannia, as if that would be captained by a pirate. I'm glad it wasn't. That was the former Royal Yacht, of course. Now, it was not the Riddar Galley that I'd never heard of, because that was apparently captained by Black Sam, whoever he was. And the answer was, which ship did Blackbeard captain? It was the Queen Anne's Revenge. I never knew that. Did you know that, Peter? No idea. And why a ship would be called that, I haven't a clue. Well, no doubt they wanted to have a bit of revenge going on there. Anyway, so there you are. So, your vast store of intellectual knowledge has been sort of lifted up this week, hasn't it, by those questions and answers. Oh, yes. I wonder how many will remember. I do hope you've enjoyed this hour with us. It goes so quickly every week. I hope you find that too and look forward to more another week. Well, we're going to play out this week with that wonderful song, Faithful One, sung here by Brian Dirksen. We need to remember, don't we, whatever is happening, our ups and our downs in life, that he is the faithful one, God, and we can trust him for everything. So, goodbye from me for now and looking forward to joining with you again next week. And goodbye from me as well. Before we finish then, let's look to God for a blessing. Now, since Celia and Des are effectively having a little holiday at the moment, yes, let's just join together now and receive God's blessing. Who needs God's blessing? We all do. But maybe at this time of the year, we especially remember all the students, all the young people going back to school, going back to college, and not forgetting all the teachers and the lecturers and the workers going back to school and college as well. Each one of these people need a lot of courage, of patience, of peace. And so, Lord God, we come to you and we receive your blessing and pass it on to these. We bless these people in Jesus' name with peace, with your hand on them. Let your name be glorified in our schools and colleges and other places of work too as many of us start different challenges at this time of year. Father God, we say thank you. Faithful one, so unchanging. Ageless one, you're my rock of peace. Lord of all, I depend on you. I call out to you again and again. I call out to you again and again. You are my rock in time of trouble. You lift me up when I fall down. All through the storm, your love is there. The anchor of my hope is in you alone. Faithful one, so unchanging. Ageless one, you're my rock of peace. Lord of all, I depend on you. I call out to you again and again. I call out to you again and again. You are my rock in time of trouble. You lift me up when I fall down. All through the storm, your love is there. The anchor of my hope is in you. Thank you for watching!
