SCRIPTURES USED, THERE MAY BE SOME OMISSIONS (1 John 3:1 NKJV)  Behold what manner of love the Father has bestowed on us, that we should be called children of God! Therefore the world does not know us, because it did not know Him. (1 John 3:2 NKJV)  Beloved, now we are children of God; and it has not yet been revealed what we shall be, but we know that when He is revealed, we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is. (1 John 3:3 NKJV)  And everyone who has this hope in Him purifies himself, just as He is pure. (1 John 3:1 NKJV)  Behold what manner of love the Father has bestowed on us, that we should be called children of God! Therefore the world does not know us, because it did not know Him. (John 3:16 NKJV)  For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. (1 John 2:29 NKJV)  If you know that He is righteous, you know that everyone who practices righteousness is born of Him. (1 John 3:1 NKJV)  Behold what manner of love .............. (John 15:18 NKJV)  "If the world hates you, you know that it hated Me before it hated you. (John 15:19 NKJV)  If you were of the world, the world would love its own. Yet because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you. (John 3:19 NKJV)  And this is the condemnation, that the light has come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. (John 3:20 NKJV)  For everyone practicing evil hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his deeds should be exposed. (2 Corinthians 3:18 NKJV)  But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord. (1 Corinthians 15:52 NKJV)  in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. (1 Corinthians 15:53 NKJV)  For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality. (1 Corinthians 15:54 NKJV)  So when this corruptible has put on incorruption, and this mortal has put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written: "DEATH IS SWALLOWED UP IN VICTORY." (1 Corinthians 15:48 NKJV)  As was the man of dust, so also are those who are made of dust; and as is the heavenly Man, so also are those who are heavenly. (1 Corinthians 15:49 NKJV)  And as we have borne the image of the man of dust, we shall also bear the image of the heavenly Man. (1 John 3:3 NKJV)  And everyone who has this hope in Him purifies himself, just as He is pure. (Romans 8:24 NKJV)  For we were saved in this hope, but hope that is seen is not hope; for why does one still hope for what he sees? (Hebrews 6:19 NKJV)  This hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and steadfast, and which enters the Presence behind the veil, (1 John 1:9 NKJV)  If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. (1 John 2:1 NKJV)  My little children, these things I write to you, so that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous. (1 John 2:1 NKJV)  My little children, these things I write to you, so that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous. SUMMARY, AI GENERATED In 1 John chapter 3, we learn that God loves us and adopts us as his children. We are given three reasons to live a holy life. The world may not recognize us, but God does. Christians are being transformed to be like Christ. We have the hope of being like him when he returns. Those who have this hope purify themselves. Living a holy life is a response to God's love and grace. TRANSCRIPT Ai GENERATED, THERE MAY BE SOME ERRORS OR OMISSIONS As we get down to 1 John chapter 3, we're going to understand some of our God and what God does for those who obey the gospel. And God loves us and adopts us as his children. And this is what we're going to understand in verses 1 through 3 as we begin the study of chapter 3 in 1 John, where we're going to see within chapter 3, three reasons to live a holy life. So you got 1 John chapter 3, three reasons to live a holy life. And we want to look into these things and we're going to understand that God loves us and adopts us as his children. And Christ died for us to take away sin. And the Holy Spirit guides us through revelation of God's word. Okay. And could our first reader read 1 John chapter 3, verses 1 through 3. 1 John 3, 1 See what kind of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God. And so we are. The reason why the world does not know us is that it does not know him. Beloved, we are God's children now, and what we will be has not yet appeared. But we know that when he appears, we should be like him, because we shall see him as he is. And everyone who thus hopes in him purifies himself as he is pure. Amen. Thank you. So now we get down to more understanding of why we ought to live holy as Christians. Why do we ought to live a holy life? And we got to understand that God loves us and adopts us as his children. And we've seen that in verses 1 through 3. We see in verse 1, it says, Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God. Therefore, the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not. And if we look back at 1 John chapter 2, verse 29, it stated, If he know that he is righteous, he know that everyone that doeth righteous is born of him. So we see in 1 John chapter 2, a family traitor, one born of God, was described. And that is, he does not practice sin. And so what the Apostle John does is follow that thought by this statement of astonishment. Beginning in chapter 3, verse 1, he says, Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed on us, that we should be called the sons of God. We need to behold that, because we need to understand that God could have provided forgiveness of sins without extending the privilege of sonship. But what was it? It was his grace and love. It's so amazing that God has invited members of the human family to become adopted into his own heavenly family. What God does. Let's read John 3, 16. Sarah? Sarah, are you unmuted? Yeah, yeah. For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten son, that whoever believes in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. Amen. So we need to understand that this was not done because of any righteousness on our part, but we were sinful. But God, who is rich in mercy, made possible that we could forgive and made errors according to the hope of eternal life. This is what we have to understand, okay? And what manner of love, as John states. John says, Behold, what manner of love, okay? This is the ecstatic expression of wonder. Behold, nothing can compare to the immeasurable love of God that not only permits sinners to be forgiven, people, okay, but also adopts them as his own children. Do you know what type of love this is? This is such matchless love, love that can't be matched, okay? God could have provided forgiveness of sin without sonship, without the privilege, but it was his grace and his love that is so amazing that he has invited us humans to become adopted into his own heavenly family, okay? And for this cause, the world knoweth us not. That's why John stated, Therefore, the world knoweth us not. And the word know within this context, it carries a deeper meaning than merely being able to call one's name, okay? Because we've got to understand, the world knows that Christians exist, but they have no sympathy, no understanding of the motives and characters of their lifestyle. Why? Why, brother Todd? The reason is because the world hated you. Let's read John chapter 15, verses 18 and 19. Okay. If the world hates you, know that it has hated me before it hated you. If you were of the world, the world would love you as its own. But because you are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hates you. So we understand why the world hates Christians, because they first hated Jesus. And Christians are not of the world. The world is flowing one way. If the current of the river is flowing down the cliff, the Christians are going the other way up that cliff, bowing against the stream. You are going the opposite direction. You are flowing in a different direction. You are living in contrast to the world. That's why the world hates you. And those who follow Christ's example will be unpopular and opposed for the same reason they oppose the Lord. So don't think because you became a Christian, everybody's going to be happy. And I want you to know that those who prefer to live in the darkness of sin do not want their sins to be exposed and reproved by the light of righteousness. Let's read John chapter 3 verses 19 and 20. Mary. Okay. John 3 verse 20. Verses 19 and 20. Okay. 19 and 20. This is the verdict. Light has come into the world, but people love darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil. Everyone who does evil hates the light and will not come into the light for fear that their deeds will be exposed. All right. So when Christians live and do the will of God, we show that doing God's will is possible by doing it in His way. Then we condemn the world by all faith. We don't condemn them personally. The Scriptures does that. They condemn themselves by judging themselves unworthy of eternal life by their deeds. But our deeds manifest that doing God's will in God's way is possible. And by all faith, we condemn the world just as Noah did and all the other faithful saints of old. But here in first John chapter 3 verse 2, it says, Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and they do not yet appear what we shall be. But we know that when He shall appear, we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is. Now this is a promise, all right? And the world may not recognize us, but God does. And because He does, now are we the sons of God. This is what John is, what you know. So in fleshly appearance, Christians look like any other human being. But inwardly, there's a difference. So you got to know who you are, people. And because of this inward difference, Christians are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another. This is what Paul was talking about in 2 Corinthians 3.18. So could somebody read 2 Corinthians 3.18? She did. Paul, and we all with unveiled faith, beholding the glory of the Lord, and are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another. For this comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit. So when Christ shall appear, as John stated in 1 John 3, verse 2, he said, but when He shall appear, we shall be like Him, that we is referring to Christians, okay? So though we cannot imagine or describe that glory to survive, it should be like Jesus Christ when He appears at His second coming, okay? And at that time, the true identity, listen to what I'm saying, the true identity of the children of God will be obvious, okay? Let's read 1 Corinthians 15, verses 52 through 54. 52-54, In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet, for the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality. So when this corruptible has put on incorruption, and this mortal has put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the thing that is written, death is swallowed up in victory. Amen. And I like verses 48 and 49, watch this, it says, As is the earthly, such are they also that are earthly, and as is the heavenly, such are they also that are heavenly. But watch verse 49, And as we have borne the image of the earthly, we shall also bear the image of the heavenly, the ills of spirits and bodies, that those who are bifaithful in Christ will receive that is coming, okay? But notice 1 John chapter 3, verse 3, it says, And every man that hath his hope in him, what hope is John talking about? You have one minute remaining. He's talking about the hope that is revealed in verse 2, about being like Christ that is coming. He's saying every man that have this hope in him, now notice now, this ain't no worldly hope, now I'm going to stop you, this is the hope of a Christian, to be like Christ. And John said every man that have this hope in him, what do he do, he purifies himself, even as he is true. So that verse alone lets you know it's impossible to be a Christian and think that you've got the hope of eternal life and you'll practice it. That's impossible, that's contradictory to the gospel. This type of life demands a certain type of obedience. Thank you for using Global Telling. It's, Pat, if you would start at 1 John 3, 3 and John, Charles's time seems to be cut short. Okay, 1 John 3, 3, And everyone who has this hope in him purifies himself, just as he is here. Whoever commits sin also commits lawlessness, and sin is lawlessness. And you know that he was manifested to take away our sins, and in him there is no sin. Whoever abides in him does not sin. Whoever sins has neither seen him nor known him. Little children, let no one, he who practices righteousness is righteous, just as he is righteous. Amen. So here in 1 John 3, 1 John stated that, And every man that has this hope in him purifies himself, even as he is true. So let's understand this, the prospect of being like him, that is like Christ, the prospect of being like him in the future is what? It's to inspire us to make every effort as Christians to live like him in this present world. And every man that has this hope in him, what does John say he does? He purifies himself. And notice how he says he purifies himself. This means he keeps on purifying himself. It's a sense of continuity. This is how he lives on a daily. He don't purify himself one time. He continues to purify himself. And now Pastor Paul wrote that we are saved by hope. So we see the hope of verse 2 tied to the purity that's commanded in verse 3. And then the Apostle Paul, who was led by the self-same spirit, he stated that we are saved by hope. Now, hold on now. So is you saying, Charles, that all we got to do is wish to be saved? No, that is a lie. That is of the devil. Hope of the Christian is more than merely wishing to be saved, because that is not all that is necessary. But sincere hope serves as the motivation to obey his commandments, to resist the temptation of sin, and to persevere through all the trials of faith. It's for this reason hope is described as the anchor of the soul. So I want to read Romans chapter 8, verse 24, and also Hebrews 6.19. So let's look at Romans 8.24, Hebrews 6.19. Romans 8.24, for in this hope we were saved. Now hope that is seen is not hope, for he hopes for what he sees. So I want to read Hebrews 6.19. This hope we have is an anchor of the soul, both sure and steadfast, in which enters the presence behind the veil. Amen. All right, so this is the hope of the Christian. Okay, and we see that one keeps all purified himself. Let's read 1 John 1.9. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. All right, amen. So just a part of living that purified life, this time you continually remain true by practicing righteousness, confessing sin, praying, practicing God's righteousness by being obedient to what you read and hear in the scriptures. Okay, have to live righteousness, you have to keep on purifying yourself. What you do in baptism, you do it in your everyday walk as a Christian. You don't just do it in baptism, you do it in your everyday walk as a Christian. You continue to bury that old man of sin and faith and follow God. But also 1 John 2 verse 1 states, my little children, these things write unto you that ye sin not. Now we understand that John ain't talking about sinless perfection, because it's everything from chapter 1 that John stated that we do sin. And he stated in verse 9, if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. And it is the blood of Christ that cleanses us from all unrighteousness, which is described in 1 John chapter 1 verse 7, which states, but if we walk in the light, if he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another. And the blood of Jesus Christ his son cleanses us from all sin. It is that blood that cleanses us when we are confessing sin. And then chapter 2 verse 1 of 1 John states, I write unto you that ye sin not. Now he ain't talking about sinless perfection, because he goes right on saying that if any man sins, we have an advocate with the father, Jesus Christ the righteous. So it's the blood of Christ that keep on purifying Christ will practice righteousness. John said, I'm writing unto you because you are a Christian and your attitude and your desire shall be to sin not. But when you do sin, it is the blood of Christ that cleanses you from your sin. When you are confessing your sins, the blood of Christ continually cleanses you from all unrighteous. So no matter what type of sin you have transgressed and fallen into or come short, God promises that if you will repent and confess your sins and pray to him and practice obedience and righteousness, that he will forgive you. But we see what amount of love that God has bestowed on us. Behold that tonight. I want you to think on that tonight and tomorrow that we should be called the sons of God. God could have provided forgiveness without giving the privilege of sonship, but instead he invited you to live. He invited the human race to be a part of his heavenly family. All right. And for that reason, we who have already obeyed the gospel, we have a hope to be like Christ when he appears. We should be as he is. Okay. And because of that hope that we have, then it should cause us to purify ourselves as Christians. And for those who haven't obeyed the gospel, those who haven't, who are still living in sin, you need to behold the amount of love that God has bestowed on the human race and on Christians that he has invited you to live a life free of sin and to become a member of his heavenly family so that you can be called children of God. Don't take this for granted. Don't miss everything by missing heaven. And that concludes our study for tonight.
