You have one minute remaining. He was doing that by his preaching. And we talked about yesterday about how that Holy Spirit baptism occurred only to the apostles and Cornelius and his household, and apparently to Paul or Saul. It doesn't specifically say that Paul received Holy Spirit baptism that I know of, but he bore the signs of an apostle. So I think that he was pretty well implied that he did. And their job was to go and preach to the world. And they laid their hands on people who were likewise able to preach, have miraculous knowledge, and perform some miracles. But it was not like the baptism of the Holy Spirit. They were limited in what they could do. Thank you for using Global Telling. But now today, we're going to talk about being baptized with fire. It's just like he doesn't baptize every person with the Holy Spirit, hopefully he doesn't baptize everybody with fire. I don't know who's hung up the phone, but she made a lot of difference in the thing. Sound here. Maybe it's Charles, I don't know. So the commentator says that John said that Jesus was baptized with fire. The baptism of fire refers to the punishment that will fall on those who reject Christ and who receive not his word. In John 12, 48. All right. I think Charles read last, didn't he? We still online? What'd you say, Mike? I think it's your turn to read. Okay. It's so quiet, I don't know if I'm still online. Oh, yeah, yeah, you are, you are. All right, what verse do you want? John 12, 48. So we can't afford, we can't avoid judgment. And we're going to be judged by Jesus, his words, other things that he has. Makes it very important that we understand everybody's job usually has procedures that they go by. And they're judged by whether or not they follow those procedures. And so from time to time you have to learn those procedures and refresh your memory of what they are. And the same thing with Christ. In the end we'll all be judged by him. And we'll be but judged by his words. So the commentator says the word fire appears three times in this context. In 3, 9, 16, and 17. Obviously in the passages before and following this verse, 3, 9 and 3, 17, refers to the instruction which is symbolic of disobedient people. So, Tim, would you read Luke 3, verse 9, 16, and 17? Okay. And even now the ash is laid to the root of the trees. Therefore every tree which does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. John answered, saying to all, I indeed baptize you with water, but one mightier than I is coming. Through sandals strapped I am not worthy to loose. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire. His winning fan is in his hand and he will thoroughly clean out his threshing floor and gather the wheat into his barn. But the chaff he will burn with unquenchable fire. Okay. So, if you notice how many times right here in these two passages that he mentions the fire and even the unquenchable fire. Isaac, what does unquenchable mean? It means like everlasting. It never goes out. Yeah. Can't put it out. Can't put it out. That's what, if you ever watch a blacksmith or somebody working metal that really has done this and knows about it, you get it good and hot and then you cool it off real fast and start quenching it. But this is a fire that won't be cooled off, he's talking about. And the commentator says, many times the scriptures speak of fire as punishment rendered to the wicked. So, Patricia, would you read Matthew 25, 41-46? Let's see. 25, 41-46. It's 41 and 46. Then he will also say to those on the left hand, Depart from me, you curses, into the everlasting fire. Prepare for the devil and his angels. For I was hungry and you gave me no food. I was thirsty and you gave me no drink. I was a stranger and you did not take me in. Naked and you did not clothe me. Sick and in prison and you did not visit me. Then they also will answer him saying, Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison and did not minister to you? Then he will answer them saying, Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did not do it to me. And these will go away into everlasting punishment, but the righteous into eternal life. Okay. So, see there, the fire is everlasting, the punishment is everlasting, and the reward is eternal life. So they all last the same length of time, which is not a length of time, but it's immeasurable because it has no end. And then, Charles, did you read Mark 9, 42 through 50? All right. And whosoever shall offend one of these little ones that believe in me, it is better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and he were cast into the sea. And if thy hand offend thee, cut it off. It is better for thee to enter into life, ma'am, than having two hands to go into hell, and to the fire that never shall be quenched. Where there are worms, thou art not, and the fire is not quenched. And if thy foot offend thee, cut it off. It is better for thee to enter into life, than having two feet to be cast into hell, and to the fire that never shall be quenched. Where there are worms, thou art not, and the fire is not quenched. And if thine eye offend thee, pluck it out. It is better for thee to enter into the kingdom of God with one eye, than having two eyes to be cast into hell fire. Where there are worms, thou art not, and the fire is not quenched. For everyone shall be salted with fire, and every sacrifice shall be salted with salt. Salt is good, but if the salt is lost to saltiness, what will ye season it? Have salt in yourselves, and have peace one with another. All right. Check this out. But I think that Jesus talked about punishment and hell more than anybody else in the Bible. We usually don't realize that. But the number one thing that I think Jesus talked about, and check this out too, is the kingdom. He started preaching about the kingdom, and he continued to preach about the kingdom continually throughout the scriptures, throughout the gospels. And then Isaac 2 Thessalonians 1, 7 through 9. Okay. It reads, And to give you who are troubled, rest with us, when the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven with his mighty angels, and flaming fire, take vengeance on those who do not know God, and on those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ. These shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of his power. Okay. And then, Sam, would you read Revelation 14, 10, and 11? Okay. He himself shall also drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is poured out full strength into the cup of his indignation. He shall be tormented with the fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels and in the presence of the Lamb. And the smoke of their torment ascends forever and ever, and they have no rest day or night who worship the beast and his image, and whoever receives the mark of his name. Okay. So it says, And the smoke of their torment ascends forever and ever, and no rest day or night. Have you ever had those days or nights, maybe several of them, that you just could never get any rest? But that's kind of giving us a description of what hell is like, except being even worse. And then, Patricia, Revelation 20, verse 14 and 15? Okay. Then death and Hades were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. And anyone not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire. Go ahead and read Revelation 21, verse 8. But the cowardly, unbelieving, abominable, murderers, sexual immorals, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars shall have their part in the lake, which burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death. So that's really a scary passage for me, anyway. One that really makes me fear God. Charles, the commentator says, John was declaring that Jesus would have all authority both in heaven and on earth. And Charles, would you read Matthew 28, 18 through 20? All right. It states, And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. Go ye therefore and teach the whole nation, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Ghost, teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you. And lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen. Okay. The commentator says, By means of baptism with the Holy Spirit, he authorized the preaching of the gospel by which men can be saved. By means of baptism with fire, he will render punishment upon those who refuse to obey the gospel and remain in sin. The passages that we read in the very beginning talk about obeying the gospel, about hearing, believing, repenting, confessing, being baptized, and then living a faithful life. And Isaac, would you read 2 Thessalonians 1, 7 through 9? Yes, sir. Man, that was kind of unique. I got the same passage twice. And to give you who are troubled. What did you say, Mike? Go ahead. And to give you who are troubled, rest with us, when the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven with his mighty angels, and flame and fire take his vengeance on those who do not know God and on those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ. Ye shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of his power. Okay. So, Isaac got to repeat that passage. But it's one we could all repeat in our minds and keep in our minds all the time. And he lists two categories of people that are going to be punished with everlasting destruction. First of all, those who do not know God and those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ. We can know God. We can believe in him. But we can turn from him and not obey. So, I'd like to sing or not sing or read a song. I don't know who's got a songbook available. Anybody got one available? Yeah, I got one. Okay. So, I hope everyone wants to be a great day coming, not a sad day. And we don't know when it's going to come. It may come before we get off this phone or it may be 10,000 years. But the Lord tells us to be prepared like the firemen. They have to be prepared 24-7, 365 days a year because they never know when the fire is coming. And we never know when Jesus is coming. So, I'll have a couple of minutes, a couple of comments after the closing prayer. But, Isaac, would you close us in a prayer? Yes, sir. Goodness, Father, glory and holy and awesome be thy name. Lord, we just come to magnify you in our lives. We come to praise you with our lips. Lord, we come to look upon your glory with our eyes. General Father, Lord, we just want to thank you for the study this morning. We pray, General Father, Lord, we have better understanding. And I pray, General Father, Lord, those that may still don't understand to encourage them to ask you for understanding and wisdom. Lord, and let us always speak the things that is from you and not from ourselves or from men. I pray, General Father, Lord, that you be with all the people that is on this call, Lord, that is encouraging one another in the things of spiritual matters. And truly, that is a wonderful thing to spend time with people reading and studying your holy divine word, which is able to save our souls.
