Nothing to say, yet
In this technology class, the instructor covers the Photos app on the iPhone. They discuss editing features, organizing albums, and using utilities like hidden photos and duplicates. They also explain how to optimize storage and share albums with family and friends. The instructor provides tips on using Siri search, iCloud storage, and saving photos to external devices. They mention the Memories feature and discuss privacy settings. Overall, the class focuses on maximizing the functionality of the Photos app. Good evening, guys. Welcome to Blind United Technology Night right here on Zoom. I'm your instructor, Pedro. And tonight's class, we're covering the Photos app. In my previous class, we covered a little bit of the Camera app and centering yourself on taking selfies or recording yourself. So in this class, we're going to concentrate mostly on the iPhone app, the Photos app, I mean, excuse me, and edit like the beginnings or make multiple clips from a video. We're also going to explore some of the settings to save space on your phone. Sometimes these videos and these photos, it could bunch up. And then we're going to explore within that app, the Albums, like Recently Albums, Location, or Instagram Albums, things like that we're going to explore also. We're also going to explore Utilities. And the Utilities is like hidden photos, duplicates. It has a duplicate folder, so you can check your duplicates and get rid of them if you like. We're also going to explore the Recently Deleted folders and things like that. But we're going to start off with the settings just so we can get acquainted. I also suggest if a setting sounds something that benefits you, like, for example, if you got not that much memory space on your phone and you're trying to make space for the Photos app, when we go to the settings right now, we're going to see an option to Optimize Photos. And Optimize Photos just means they're going to hold the true resolutions up in the cloud or in the back for stuff like that. But mostly in the cloud is what they're doing. So we're going to get started. Let me get my phone. Sorry about that. Are y'all able to hear my phone clearly? Yeah. I mean, we can turn it up just a little bit, maybe. That's great right there. All right. So we're at the Photos page within the settings and we're going to explore. And I will give some explanation of some of these features and functionalities of these buttons. Okay. Serious search is self-explanatory. You can search. You can tell it, search for a dog, search for a cat, search for this person if you have these persons labeled. Also, that's one of the things we're going to do. We're going to label an unknown person. And let's say, for example, on the Photos app, the phone will recognize a person and will tell you different, let's say, for example, we'll say image, Pedro, Monica, things like that. Once it starts knowing the person, it will artificially, the intelligence will let it know and group those photos when you go to that person's album. For example, my kids, they click on their name and it will show up their photos even from when they were younger and it will give me memories and basic things around those albums and things like that. So we're going to continue exploring. And sometimes it's good to turn this off for safety too, because somebody could just tell Siri, let me see a photo, if you leave your phone unlocked on your tabletop or anywhere out in public. So if you would like, you can also customize what Siri sees or can show you. Okay, so did you label those pictures after you took them of your children? I will get to that part of it soon. I don't want to get thrown off. I want to be on a schedule because I do got other things to attend to after this. But I'll show you that and I will hold to questions after, so that I could get to the specific answers. I won't be just thrown off. So for iCloud storage, it will automatically upload your photos, sync them all across the devices, Mac, Apple TV, things like that. When you go to screen share on Apple TV, it will show your photos on the TV as a slideshow when it's on the screen shaver. That's nice. And here, this is important. I suggest you guys kind of take a point on these photo options right here for that's what I have it optimized storage, meaning it will leave a small print of the picture right there on your phone, but we'll offload it to the cloud and save you space. So let's say you have a video. Some videos could be up to a gig, two, three, four gigs long, you know, with these new cameras and stuff. And imagine having all those videos in your phone loaded up the memory, you know. So it's good to have it optimized. It does photos also too. So also, if you go back and you want to play a video, you're going to let it download the original to get the full resolution also. So sometimes when you click it to see it or push the play button, it might not play right away. And it won't tell you it's downloaded or anything, but just keep a mental note that it may be downloading from the cloud when you have it on optimized storage. And you also have the option for download and keep originals. These are for my users that probably have a terabyte on their iPhone or half a terabyte, but I usually leave it on optimized because it does acquire a lot of space. There you go. Let's move on. This could be very beneficial for, let's say for a family that's got kids, they got Apple devices that could create a family library where you share photos to that library and all y'all could access that library. You might have to set it up through right here instead of the photos app. You also could set up shared albums, and I will go more into that. And that's how I share photos back and forth with my kids or when my better half Monica. And sometimes it could be a long video because you share it, it will show up and download into your device. If they're not around and you don't have access to AirDrop. Okay. And you have an option to turn that off if you don't want to be invited to any shared albums or you don't want to share any albums, you do have an option to turn it off. Okay. And that's another thing I wanted to talk to you guys about. There are certain albums that you are going to require to have a passcode or a face ID or a fingerprint for those that have fingerprint buttons. And these are albums like hidden photos and recently deleted. Okay. And I think that's a good measure to do that. Let's keep moving to the next options. And I will show you the location of the hidden album later on, but you have an option to turn it off or turn it on. It's up to you guys' preference on how, if you would like to have it on or off. Okay. That's mostly self-explanatory about the cellular data. Most of us and maybe some might not have unlimited data. Some of us do get floored when we get a certain threshold of data. If you don't want these tasks running in the background, like updating and downloading in the background, feel free to turn that off to save you data and not use your data plan. And high dynamic range, guys, it's mostly for recording. And once it records, you record a video in high dynamic range. It has a more dynamic color palette, like the blacks are deeper, the reds are more redder, the whites are more clearer, and things like that. More clear, you know. For those that are recording this stuff, this is a setting I have on all the time. Automatically adjust the display to show the complete dynamic range of photos. Memories, heading. Reset suggested memories, button. Reset people and text suggestions, button. All right, guys. And memories, it's an album that your phone puts together. Also comes with text on screen and things like that. Like let's say road trip, it will say. And then they have a collage of photos that you can push play. I will show you a memory, guys. But it will play, have a song in the background matching the theme, and it will put effects and stuff like that automatically. Little memory clips. So, if y'all have taken a vacation and took videos, took photos and stuff, sometimes it will show up there. It will say vacation 2019 or vacation this year or stuff like that. Or Hawaii or Vegas, things like that. Show holiday events, switch button, on. You can choose to see timely holiday events and those for your home country or region. Memories and featured photos, heading. Show featured content, switch button, on. Allow featured photos and memories to automatically appear on this device in places such as for you and search in photos and in widgets. Okay, that was self-explanatory. Selected, automatic. Keep originals. Automatically transfer photos and videos or always transfer to the original file without checking for compatibility. And those are for Mac and Windows users right there that connect their phone and backup their photos. That's also another option for saving space on your phone is saving all your pictures to a hard drive or to your computer that might have more capacity than your phone does. And then that's the last option. We could read about photos and their privacy and how Apple uses some of your information for data gathering, you know, because, you know, they do things like that with the devices. You can choose to see timely holiday events and those for your home country or region. Syrian search button, 50%, 55%. Selected, downloading, keep original, is your iPhone, 50%, library, shared, 55%. Shared photos, albums, heading, shared albums, switch button, on. Okay, guys, so I just wanted to recap about the shared album. If you are trying or are going to share albums, this might be on by default, but it might not. And if you don't see options to share or create a shared library, you can go back to the settings. And right here, you can switch it on if you're not seeing that within the photos app. Share photos and videos from moments spent together with family and close friends. All right, so now we're going to look at the photos app. Siri suggestions, widget, widget, settings, active, photos, active, photos, active, screenshot, 3,173 photos, 875 videos, sync with iCloud just now. All right, guys, that's my media right there, my number. 3,173 photos, 875 videos, sync with iCloud just now. Okay, and that's a lot of photos to navigate. That's a lot of photos and videos to try to go one by one and remember, oh, this is the day when I was here or what I was wearing there. Okay, so I'm going to give out tips that you can use, that I use in a commonly, you know, to gather all the information that I need to make a caption or name the picture or whatever your method is. There's also a double tap rename button label. Some people like to label their pictures like that, but I like to press the information button on the toolbar on the bottom next to the delete button. So watch out, the delete button's right there. But press info, caption, double tap on caption and type in the caption. Okay, here's a hint, there is a tip. If you share the photo and got a description from Seeing AI, copy the description, come back and post it there and put a little bit of notes that you need or like restaurants or where you were at, who's in the picture and things like that to know the photo. So like that, if you're later on or later in the future, come back to it. And you remember, you want to send it out to somebody that has sight because we all got kids, we all got family, we got sisters, brothers. I mean, sometimes we want to share some photos. So the more information we get, the more memories we can have with our family and visual, you know, things like that. So right now I am in the library. If you select the first tab on the bottom left and you swipe to the left, you have your all photos, days, months, years, and so on. So if you leave it on all photos and you swipe to the left, the most recent video. And if you keep swiping left and keep swiping left, it will continue in that order. Okay, and if you try to navigate all this library and having 3000 photos and videos, it's going to be a little crazy. And you might say, how do I have so many photos and I'm completely blind, but having kids, you want photos, and they add up. So that's how you would navigate the library. And something about the library, I usually don't navigate through the library. I navigate through the albums and that's where we're going to take a look up next is the album and the way I navigate in the way that you guys may pick up to navigate photos. And I had a lot of people ask me about photos and things like that and creating albums. So I'm going to go to the bottom left and I'm going to explore the menus in the bottom. So you guys can get an acquaintance, but the next step that we're going to explore will be the albums tab. So we only got four tabs and that's for you, starting from the library for you, albums and search. So we're going to go. Once we're here, we're going to explore and depending on what apps you use and which ones you have used and forgot about, you may most likely have your photos here in one of these albums. So I'm going to go and quickly explore so you guys could get a handle of this album tab. Okay. All right. So the first album is recent. That's right there. That's how I have mine. Then if we swipe to the right, we have our recent and you might get, you might see the descriptions on getting some of these options. In one of my previous classes, we turned them on for those that might not get these image description. It's not photo description, image descriptions. We need the screen to read favorites, 16 favorites. I movie captures six photos, seeing photos, two photos, PS express, one photo, maybe Dropbox, one photo, Nike, zero photos, Snapchat, zero photos, WhatsApp, nine photos at Instagram, 70 photos, Twitter, nine photos, home and joy, four photos, shared albums, heading. All right. And that's the albums I have in my library that created by the iPhone from these different photo apps that access the camera. Okay. And I'm going to keep scrolling so you guys can get the layout and familiarize with just keep scrolling right to go to all the items. So let's continue. And we're on our share headings. If you are, if you navigate by headings and you rotate your rotor, get to headings, you can swipe up or down and navigate this menu even easier and faster. So it's Mark, Monica and Pedro created by you shared with Monica. That's an album me and Monica share right there. And that's me and my daughter album. We share back and forth, we share photos, we share videos, funny stuff, you know. And that's my family album. Just like I have family album, I also have family reminders. I have family calendar and there's also family notes. If you want to make changes in all the devices, it will update in real time for them too. Even for chores, even for calendar events and things like that. So I even have a family calendar for my kids and things like that. So this is an album I utilize to share with them memories that my phone might bring up that I can't see no more, but they might appreciate because they're growing up now and they were smaller back then and things like that. So let's keep moving. And here's where it gets to people. Okay. So for Paul, take point on this part, Paul, of the people albums. So I have people, 18 photos, places, 2,000 people, 18 photos, people in places, heading, people, 18 photos, people, Damien, going to people. So we double tap that and we're going to explore this right fast. And this is people. So right there, we have an unknown person. Okay. I noticed a little bug right now on my phone. Let's see. I have my children. I have my oldest, my oldest son, and even myself. I labeled myself because when I get descriptions, it will say like that. It will say Pedro. It will say slight profile to the right, glasses, wood table. It will describe, but it's nice to get Pedro, and it knows that it's you instead of person, slight right, and you might not know if it's you. And let's say you want to share and be like, oh, look at a picture of me. It might be a picture of someone else that just sent you a picture. So it's good to be recognized by Siri, as they call it. We also have Monica. And when you go into these albums, for example, I'm going to click on my album, and it starts loading up all the photos that it has of me in them. It might have other persons in some of the pictures, but it's also going to pull up selfies and videos and things like that. So it will group them for you in that album. But we're going to label an unknown person. Okay? So we're going to go back. Back to people. Unknown person. What I do is go into that album, so it's collecting the images. Now you have several images within there, and it has grouped them to a certain person. I actually don't know who it is, honestly. But here's an image. So we're going to double tap. Now the image is enlarged right here. We even have a close button to go back. Hello? It's a video. Let's see. Who is that? All right. So here we go. We got an image. I wonder why I didn't accept the other one. I'll check that out later. That might be like a memory type album that came with music and everything. But we have an image here. And that's all we got. So I'm going to share. And this is steps that I take. The picture shows a young boy, shirtless, wearing glasses and flexing his right arm muscle. The boy is partially covered with a beige towel or blanket. In the background, there is a window with an air conditioning unit and some green leafy plants hanging down, as well as a pink left hand on the wall. So it gave us a full description. I think this is an image that somebody else sent to me. But even like that, getting at the image description, could you tell what person and what name the person that this album belongs to? So we're going to cancel out. So we're going to go back. And now we're on the screen where all the photos of that individual are. And you have an add name button. Okay. You double tap. And you get your text field. If you enter the person's name, you go to done. Or you go to next. If that person's in your contact, you could link the contact to that photo. And it will put their last name, fill in the information it needs. And on the top right will be a done button. I don't know this person, who it is. So I'm not going to save it to give it the wrong information. But for you guys, yeah, we'll have a done button on the top right after this next, after you hit next. And if you don't have no contact information or anything like that, you just press done and you should be good. Once you name it, you will have that album and it will be named that person's name. And then when you back here at the front screen of the person's albums, you will see the name of that person. And you're able to click on that album and load up the photos of that person, like a grandson, your kids, your aunt, mom. If you start labeling them, you can start keeping a tab who they are, what's the picture about, even if you start putting even the caption. I know it might be a little tedious, but since we sometimes can't even see the images, it will be nice to know what these images are and what colors are, who's on them and stuff like that. And later on, you can send it to them, surprise them, look, remember this? And you get that little moment like, oh yeah, I remember this. You know, I like to express myself like any other person. I want to send a picture, get that reaction, you know, and see the pictures. And this is one way I could do it without my vision. You know, and it's sometimes tedious, but sometimes something to do. So we're going to go back and explore the rest of the albums. That's just something I wanted to touch up on. And then if anybody has a question about the People's album, I'm down. I'm willing to double back in and answer those questions regarding the Photos app. Any other Photos app questions also? Okay. And places, if you are searching, you could search by places. You also have the albums, iPhone will. And it will have pictures within those locations right there. Okay. So you could go through these albums and search like that, but right now it's showing a map. But when I search through locations, I usually don't go through there. I go through the search tab and I will show you how way easier it is to look for a photo. Even if you have it labeled now, even sometimes without even having them labeled and just typing in your search query, it will bring it out. I have pets. Well, I had a pet and I could. You enter dog, you enter cat, or you enter even a car. You enter the car or the model and it will look, it will find a friend. And here are some media types like if you're just looking for just the videos, and don't want photos, you know, this is a different media type. Selfies, 704, button. Live photos, 83, button. Portrait, 125, button. Slow-mo, 8, button. Cinematic, 3, button. Verse, 3, button. Screenshots, 227, button. Screen recordings, 14, button. Animated, 5, button. Utilities, adding. And those are some media types. Notice that I have anime. It starts grouping them itself. Even on selfies, it groups them by selfies. Live photos, portraits, and cinema, it groups them like that. And that's pretty nice. You can even make your own album. I'm about to explore that. And that's one of the last things we're going to do within the album before we head to the search tab. And after the search tab, I will cover the memories. Not too much to cover, but it's good to know it. And sometimes I like to see what the iPhone has come up from, you know, what it has generated for me. And here's the utility. This is the location for recovering, for hitting pictures also, and other small utilities. And those are my imports. Imports usually is if you import it from another app or from memory cards. And usually these are my imports from 2010 and things like that. This is from back when my kids were super young. So I have to take those photos and import them into my iCloud library. Now they're in the cloud. Now I don't have to worry that they're in Google Drive or Dropbox or Google Photos or other cloud places. I can just have them here. I know Dropbox can also, you can export to Dropbox and keep saving to Dropbox to build your library there if you are a Dropbox user. For those that have Windows, I could probably travel back and forth right there with the photo if you're trying to transfer. And duplicates, guys. If you have a lot of duplicates, it's good to go in this folder, find which ones are they, start deleting, which one are you going to keep, or delete all of them. Depends on what you guys are trying to keep. And I have to go through those too because they're building up already. Some are videos and some are photos. And I have to figure out a way. And I think describe with Be My Eyes is my friend. So I might have to sit down and do it one day and start deleting those photos. And here you go with the hidden. And if you double tap hidden, and this goes for the delete folder also, that is one more swipe down. And that's the last folder. We're going to double tap. And just how I showed Face ID, for those that have the fingerprinting will do that, or passcode or phone passcode. And I do have recently deleted videos and photos. And that's covering the album. I do want to create, at least go through the create process for those that would like to create a album or a shared album. So we're going to go through that process now. And add is the very, very first button guys on the top left of the screen. When you are in the tabs on your album, on your album tab. So we double tap and you have the options to create a new album and a folder, shared album, and the option to dismiss. But we're going to create a new album. Well, the process of creating a new album, you will just create it, name it and push done. So I am going to do a process, a new shared album. Okay. So this has a couple more options. You're going to be asked to share with who and contact and send that person to join. This is mostly iPhone. I don't think you could do it with Android to iPhone. This is mostly just iPhone to iPhone. So here's what you can name your album. You can name your album different things like. Zoom class. And we hit the next. The next is usually where it's always at at the top right of the screen. So we hit next. And right here on the next screen is add contact. For just an example and I'm going to add you to this album for now. So for example, for the class, we're going to. So we're going to answer. And we have results. And we have it. Okay. So I have to stop the voiceover because it's going to give out his number and it's like personal information. So it just says Ed, but that's our host. So we double tap on that. And once you're there. Okay. Now we're back up to the heading because there's a little pop-up screen that's there. It's not full screen. So if we're back at the head and we have cancel on our left and create to the right, and I'm going to create this album. Ed will get a notification on his phone that I have created an album to share with him on his end. Okay. So I hit create. There we go. And it has created the album and most likely got a notification on the other end. But from here, we're done. So right there, we have our shared album. You could also add multiple people to the album. You can name it family. You can name it cousins. You can name it sisters, brothers, however you like. So now we're done with the albums. We created a shared album. Also, we went through the process of naming a unknown person in the person section of the albums. So now we're going to explore the search tab. And we're back at the search heading and I'm going to explore. Button. People. Heading. Damien. Damien. Edward. Patrick. Monica. Louie. Syria. Edward. Louie. Unknown person. Unknown person. Mother-in-law. Syria is not. Unknown person. Unknown person. Places. Heading. That's a ton of person it doesn't know. Places. Heading. Home. And it also showed me a few locations. You can also double tap to go to see all. But I just wanted to explore the search page and how in-depth it can go for your search query. Art. Button. Vehicles. Button. These are categories you could type in. Food. Button. Cars. Button. Videos. Button. Concerts. Button. Performances. Button. Groups. Heading. Monica De La Cruz. Pango Aguilera. Button. Louie. Pango Aguilera. Button. Damien Pedro. These are group images right here. And that one's telling me Chloe and Edward, two of my children together in the picture that I'm able to tap. And that's why I like to name them and have it in those people albums because of things like that. So, the last thing that we're going to do is we're going to go to search. It's not too much to go over, but it's R. For you tab. And we're going to explore. And that's what iPhone calls these albums are all memories. It also has a see all button. But let's just take a quick exploration. And now we're at another heading, Feature Photos. Feature Photos. We also have a section shared with you. And it's self-explanatory. Give me a second. These are photos that people have sent from messages, emails, or shared albums. Excuse me. Okay. Let's continue exploring. They also show you your iCloud links. iCloud links pertains to, for example, if you send a message and the video is too long, it will send an iCloud link and that person is able to download it. This iCloud link could also be generated for somebody that doesn't have iCloud and just wants to download a file. This is something that Dropbox actually does too. It says generate link profile and you can just share the link and then download the file. iCloud does something similar. I do have that here. There you go. Those are links that I shared. And if we keep scrolling, that was the last section for you. So, I am going to open it up for anybody that has questions. Feel free to stop the recording, Ed. And that's been another session of our interest group technology class. Thank you for joining us too.
