Hello, this is Brandi Berry from Cohort 57 at CFUF Educational Technology Program. Welcome to my podcast! Today I will be discussing my informal online professional development activity. I am currently an instructor of radiography at Chavee College. I teach skeletal anatomy and positioning courses for x-ray technologists. Max Knowledge, Center for Excellence in Education, Faculty Development Program. I came across this PD through my former employer, American Career College, where professional development is required and courses from Max Knowledge are available to all instructors. The course is in a series of modules under the Teaching with Technology umbrella. It is entitled ED210, Implementing Online Learning Augmentations in Hands-on Programs. This course explores various ways to integrate and apply learning through online tools and environments, even in hands-on programs. It covers how to expand content, encourage applied questioning, and analyze implications, emphasizing the importance of online tools for integrated and applied learning. I chose this module because it's perfect for my teaching needs. I teach a highly regulated hands-on program with preset content that needs to be covered and tested. This module helps me explore how to expand this content with online learning, increasing student engagement, and allowing for a more personalized approach. Besides gaining specialized knowledge, I also wanted to introduce these concepts to my colleagues. Many of them are great at radiography but lack a foundational knowledge of education, often resisting my teaching methods. This module validated my approach, boosting my confidence to continue with my effective teaching methods. This online module is part of a series called Teaching with Technology featuring multiple related topics. Each module is like an online article with chapters that you can go through at your own pace. There are interactive components, quizzes, and an online forum for discussions. Each module takes about four to six hours, and after passing a quiz with 70% or above, you earn a certificate and a badge. I spent four hours reading, taking notes, and engaging in the peer forums, though they were not very active. However, I shared my insights with my co-teacher and sent her my notes. I learned how to expand content without adding more material. For example, I can link resources in Canvas to help students struggling with radiography mathematics, providing individualized help while keeping the class moving forward with hands-on activities. This experience confirmed that my current path in the CSUS program is perfect for me. Though others have suggested I pursue a program director's role, which often requires a master's in business administration, my passion is in teaching. This edtech program has been challenging, yet incredibly rewarding, and I'm grateful for the decision to focus on education. I believe informal PD offers only benefits. Engaging in PD reflects a growth mindset, and although it can be time-consuming, the benefits far outweigh the time investment. I am new to audacity, but I'm really proud of myself for even trying this out. I hope you enjoyed. Thank you.
