Advancements in artificial intelligence (AI) have improved our lives, but we must proceed with caution. AI can mimic voices and create renditions of people, raising concerns about job security and potential dangers. The fear of AI becoming sentient like in the Terminator movies is real. If we are not careful, AI could surpass humans and lead to our downfall. Halting or slowing down AI advancements could alleviate concerns and prevent potential harm. Technology is useful but can be dangerous, and we should never trust machines over humans. The one and only major word I can provide when discussing topics along the lines of artificial intelligence and cyborgs is to proceed with caution. Many advancements in technology have benefited mankind in a variety of ways. We use technology on a day-to-day basis and it has helped improve everyday tasks and has helped our society grow and become more connected as a whole. But just because technology has bettered humans' way of living doesn't mean there isn't a downside. If we as a society aren't careful, our most useful technology could become a danger to us all. The concerns I have revolve around the impending and very frequent advancements with artificial intelligence. We are at a time in our life where, because of AI systems, many problems around this technology are arising. For five months, starting in May and not ending until just days ago, the Writers Guild of America were on strike with the main cause of their striking revolving around their lack of guardrails or job security against the use of artificial intelligence. With how far AI has advanced, it is able to learn and create renditions of different celebrities' voices to be used as voiceovers. Not only that, but AI is now able to generate their own version of a person. That could have proved very dangerous against members of animation projects. But concerns involving AI's takeover of employment is not the only worthwhile fear I possess with this topic. Referring back to the Terminator films, those movies revolve around an apocalyptic world where men and machines are at war due to artificial intelligence becoming sentient and designating themselves as superior to humans. If we as a society are not careful, in the matter of years that could happen. Day in and day out, people discover that machines are more useful than people and it starts that fire that puts them ahead of people. And advancements on this technology are not slowing down. If anything, it's moving at a faster pace. Right now, artificial intelligence has the ability to flawlessly mimic another person's voice and use it to read anything they want it to. That's what is happening now. Just imagine how much further this technology will come in a year, or two, or ten. If scientists are not careful, it could spell out the end of the human race as we know it. If it were up to me personally, I would halt production on any team working on advancing AI. Yes, technology is an important tool and extension of one's self, but I feel as though we are in a comfortable time in the history of technology where not everything has to rely on advancements. Stopping or at least stalling production on AI could and would relieve much more distress and concern from not just me, but other members of the population as well. Although very useful, technology can be a very scary weapon when put in the wrong hands. And if one day artificial intelligence becomes self-aware and deems humans weak or unworthy, people could look back on my writings as a form of a warning. Never trust machines over humans.
