Session 8 Raw

Serafina and her D&D party are in a snowy cave. They consider going through a cave to fight a monster. Ratman tries to steal Beverly, but Dorne kills Ratman. They find Ratman's hoverboard powered by a magical dagger. Serafina hops on the hoverboard and crashes into a tree. She finds the dagger and continues to a cabin made of chocolate. The door is unlocked and nobody responds. and then we'll do a clap. I'm quite pumped. Just a clap. 3, 2, 1. Nope, we're gonna do that again. Okay. 3, 2, 1. I think Wyatt was visually latent. Dorne, no thought, only dagger, kills Ratman. We all go, What the fuck? And then Mordred puts Ratman out of its misery. And, uh... It's a little bit traumatic. Idaho Dorne go inside, talk to some of the animals inside. Mordred, Seraphina go, Why did you give me a letter? I don't want secrets. I don't want secrets either. Okay, you have a day, but no secret. We each try to power this baby up, but it takes happy thoughts and positivity, but more so than that, living in the moment which none of us are really good at, nor any of us terribly positive, yet it kind of works, and Serafina hops on and zhoom! to the... through the snow to the shack, which I'm fully envisioning is like the screaming shack in Potter. You take five bludgeoning damage as you go into the tree at full speed. And you fall into deep snow, so the landing doesn't hurt very much. But you look around and you see the board, and after a little searching, you do find the dagger in the snow. The board looks a little worse for wear, but still manageable. And after the headache begins to wear off, or even kick in, you do notice lights up on a hill nearby. Is it walkable, or must I get on the board again? It would be walkable, but difficult. You might also be able to do it on the board, but it might also be really difficult. I think the board's quicker. It's board time. Alright, you hop on the board. Can I have you give me an acrobatics check to navigate the board? That one's better. You know where you're going. That is going to be a 14 plus 3, a 17. You are whipping through the trees, up a hill, like reverse slaloms. You're just going through it. Now that you know there's a forest here and that there's a mountain here, it's a little bit easier to navigate. And you go up the mountain and come across what looks like a beautiful log cabin. You see a... Come across a beautiful log cabin. You see a little chimney on top with some fire smoke coming off of it. You see a warm glow inside what looks like frosted windows. And you see a nice wooden door. To be honest, this cabin looks really lovely. Like it was made by somebody who knew what they were doing. However, the cold winds from being outside so long does kind of beat at you. It's been maybe like 5, 10 minutes. Like it hasn't been a really long time. But you weren't prepared for this kind of weather. So can I have you roll a D6? So another 1. It's a 1. Serafina, you feel yourself chilled by all the snow that got in you when you fell backwards into the big pile of snow under the tree. And you feel chilly. And your movement speed is reduced by 10 feet. But you come across this cabin and it looks warm and inviting. I mean, the door is closed, but the fireplace seems to be going. Starting down 10 feet. This is like how every fairytale starts. I was about to say, does this cabin look kind of handsome and gruddily like too inviting? Is it made of candy? No. Is it made of candy? Yes. No. The cabin itself looks really inviting. Considering the rest of this landscape is so severe, Serafina approaches it hesitantly. As I get closer, do I see anybody in the windows, into the windows? The windows are too frosted for me outside for you to really see anything, but you don't see any movement outside the windows initially. I take the little knocker on the door, bang it a few times. Hello? Hello? Is anyone home? No response. I try the door. It's unlocked. It opens right up. And feeling as cold and as beat by wind as you are, it kind of feels like it might be a good idea to step inside and warm up at least for a moment. It's fucked up how you can tell, like, a horror story and I'm fine, but... Yeah. You start a story with, like, there is a cabin that's empty, and you could go in, and I'm way more unsettled than anybody or the... I... Is there anything that I see that looks weird on the inside of the cabin? Give me a quick perception check while you're standing there. And just know that if you take a long time to look... Natural 20! That also's a one. Ooh! Hell yeah! Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. Whoa, whoa, whoa. Uh... No. Okay! You look inside, and it looks like a really well-furnished, really well-built cabin. As you look around, you do not see any movement, but the fireplace is going, and other than that, there are no signs of immediate life. As spooky as this makes me feel, there seem to be so-called walk-ins, ones where hands up by the fire. I'd like to take a look around just so I can see what's happening. Is there any rooms that I can go into? Yeah, you take a look around. Let me describe the layout of this place. It reminds you of a luxury cabin that you once saw an advertisement for, like a luxury stay in the mountains. Inside is a main kitchen area and dining room that is kind of like all one big open area that leads into this nice large den with a stone fireplace and a big window that you could imagine that it would lead into a beautiful view of the valley down below if it wasn't the middle of a snowstorm. But honestly, it still looks really nice not being out in the snowstorm, watching the snowfall illuminated by the lights and the fire. There's a slight off-den... Not den. There's a table to the side, and there's a large couch that sits, looking directly at the window, with a big bear rug. Bigger than any bear that you've seen lies on the ground under a table. What color bear? And that's... black. We're fine. I'm sorry. Behind you, behind the sofa and behind the kitchen is what looks like a door off into two separate rooms. Okay. I'm going to just try and find a cloak or something to keep me warm on my journey back to... Oop. I don't want to leave them too long. Yeah, you find a large pelt. There's actually a few hanging by the door that look like makeshift coats. I put on quite a few to take back home to my friends. Yeah, you figure you can get like two or so on and around you comfortably and held on to. What about uncomfortably? How many do you want to try? How possible would it be to have four cloaks on me? How do I as a DM say this in a way that is narratively satisfying? Does it have to be like a strength check? A hovercraft. And think, how many of these big, thick skins can I wear and reasonably get there? And with a natural one survival check previously? You know, you can try for as many as you want, but it might weigh it down and make you a little slow. I will take the negotiated or previously offered two. Yeah, we can all share. We can all share. It's not even just a shed, it's this big luxurious cabin and there are fires and pelts and it's warm and oh my gosh, it seems like an incredible place if we could find a way back altogether to stay and get warm and sort some things out. Also, I take off the pelts and the cloaks. I have a couple of things to keep us warm on the journey. Perhaps we could share a little. I couldn't carry more. I actually may or may not have flown into a tree and I'm feeling a little weaker than previously, however. I've got two pelts! Can we sit by the fire? Yeah, okay, here. But there were pelts, there was a kitchen, it seemed like a place that should have been lived in. Or maybe recently has been lived in. But I didn't have any weird creepy feelings, although it kind of felt like I shouldn't have been there, and like, maybe something was... I don't know, it felt like a bad story. But nothing was weird. So as an expert in thievery, I believe you just stole those clothes from a nice man who's probably coming back to enjoy his fire! Then we can give them back to him once we go there, and ask for him to give us shelter. What's the difference in the snow around the house, Seraphine? I don't know what to say to that. Nat 20 perception check? No. It seems like... If the fire's on, it seems to be ready for snow, so to speak. But no one's left the house since it started snowing. With the natural temp 20, would I have known if that was a fire? Or is that like a detect magic kind of thing? That would be a detect magic. Okay. So, I'm not really... Sorry, I'm going to clarify two things quick. One, that would be a detect magic kind of thing if it wasn't like on a log, or... It looks like a normal fire in all senses. Nothing about it screams magical. That would be perception. The other thing is, you get the sense that your frosty debuff, the 10 feet of moving speed, can be cured by warming up for a little bit. So you need to take a small rest, like in the cabin. But that's just something that you know, and that we can edit in or out later. So, I don't think that anybody was actually there, but it's warm. If we don't want to continue being in this cave with all these animals, and Zoran and I probably aren't thrilled being around the druid bear, that would be a place we could go. And sorry, I didn't expect to be lectured on thievery from you. Nope, there's not much to do. And, you know, not to rush anybody, because I know it's sensitive times, but we don't have a lot of time. So I feel like we should either... Well, I guess I'm through. My question is, where are we going? I guess my question is, where are we going in a larger sense? Like, where are we headed to right now? Either she's not volatile, or we've killed her. And the animals here are safe. And then we can go to the cabin. Could the cabin be Tor's cabin? It is built into the face of the wall of the cave with the lower half being like a dark oak and the upper half being like a light birch.
