In the LGA Adult Cone Cup West Division 4 Cup Semi-Final, Gráinne Wales B made a fantastic comeback in the second half to win the game and secure a place in the Division 4 Final. They also have the opportunity to win both the Division 1 Cup and the Division 4 Cup. In other sports news, there were golf competitions with various winners. There were also results from the Lamb Cross show and the Roundstones show. In GAA, there were various matches and championships taking place, including the under-16 finals and upcoming fixtures for different age groups. Paul Gannon here with your Monday Night Sports round-up starting with LGA. Adult Cone Cup West Division 4 Cup Semi-Final. Octobiard B 3-12. Gráinne Wales B 5-11. A fantastic comeback there in the second half from Gráinne Wales B team who were losing by 3-6 to 1-3 at half-time. Nine points adrift and put in a storming second half performance to earn a place in the Cone Cup Division 4 Final. Gráinne Wales now with a unique opportunity to win both the Division 1 Cup and the Division 4 Cup. They don't know their opponents yet in either of those finals with matches still to be played. Under-14 Division 3 League Semi-Final. St. Brendan's 5-9. Gráinne Wales 3-3. No joy there for Leith and Katie Cole's team in that semi-final. They were missing two or three key players. They'll regroup now ahead of the upcoming County Division 3 Championship. Gráinne Wales will be very much in contention in that Division 3 Championship at under-14 level. No fixtures this weekend but two big events for Gráinne Wales. The first one is on this evening in Leatherfrack at 7pm in the Wild Goat Café. It's the presentation of medals to the under-12 team under the management there of Jason Welch and PJ Lee who won their league earlier. A special guest at the function will be Deirdre Jennings who's the Galway Rose. She's also a social worker with the HSC and she'll be giving an educational talk as part of the proceedings there. Next Sunday, the Galway under-14s All-Ireland winning victory tour rolls into Clifton at approximately 2.30pm. Two of the squads are, of course, Ava Mitchell and Nisha Barry from the Gráinne Wales club. There'll be a sit-down meal after photographs and all that kind of stuff is out of the way at the Stationhouse Hotel. Stationhouse are the official sponsors of Gráinne Wales under-14s. A lot of the Gráinne Wales adult players will be in attendance as well and it promises to be a very special occasion. Golf next, starting with member Stableford on Wednesday 10 July last. We wrap up tonight with the GAA starting with the results and the pride of place this week goes to the under-sixteens of both Karen O'Cashill in the Piercy and Niamh Faheen on Cloughan. County Division Four under-sixteen final. Clifton, 8-5. Cartoon Shamrocks, 5-13. And that must have been an incredible match. Clifton on a points value there of 29. Cartoon on a points value of 28. Couldn't have been any closer. And to score eight goals in a county final is a serious achievement. And then, I suppose, on the other side of things, to concede 5-13 and not win the game, it must be very hard for them to take. But congratulations to Clifton on a super win there. And also congratulations to Karen O'Cashill in the Piercy, who were comprehensive winners in the Division Three under-sixteen county final over Caltra on a scoreline of 4-18 to 1-12. On a 19C West Championship, Octorard, 4-8. Clombar, 4-6. On to Adult, County Junior D Championship West, Rynfael, 2-10. Clombar, 4-17. And County Junior B Championship West, Karen O'Cashill, 2-10. St. Michael's, 4-12. And on to GAA Fixtures. A busy week ahead, starting tonight in Clifton at 7-30 under-17 C West Championship local derby there, Ní Fhagin an Clachán and I Karen O'Cashill na Piercy. Tomorrow, Tuesday, July the 16th, under-15 Division Three Championship. Clifton are at home to Clare Galway at 7pm and Karen O'Cashill na Piercy are away to Ornmoor Mary at 8pm there in Ornmoor. Next Friday, July the 19th, under-13 Division Five Championship Clombar at home there to Caltra, 7pm thrown in Clombar. Under-13 3A Championship, Clifton away to St. Gabriel's at 7pm in Kilconnal and Karen O'Cashill na Piercy away to Ornmoor Mary at 8pm in Mary. On to Adult Championship at the weekend, and the Primary Junior Championship kicks off this weekend. Five teams in it, Fáilte Griffin's Éir Óg, Rinne-Dáil, Karen O'Cashill, Clombar and hot favourites on Carrarua, who play at Division Two level in County League, and they're overwhelming favourites to win it, but we'll see how it pans out. First two matches up this weekend. Primary Junior Championship West, Clombar in Icarn O'Cashill at 2pm, that's on Saturday, next July the 20th, and then later on that evening in Crestwood at 6.30pm, it's for the Griffins Éir Óg against Rinne-Dáil. And then Sunday, July the 21st, under-12 takes centre stage, two matches there in Group 7, all under-12 games being played at 11am in the morning, and it's a classic local derby in Clifton, this coming Sunday. Clifton versus Rinne-Dáil in under-12 Group 7, and Karen O'Cashill and Pírsi, they're in action at the same time against Barna, and in Group 6, Clombar are in action at home against Cartoon Shamrocks. Also on next Sunday, the 21st of July, we've an under-17 C West Championship match there between Clombar and Clifton, and that one's on at 12 noon in Clombar. And finally, we have a Junior B League Shield semi-final match on in Crestwood next Sunday at 12.30, that'll be after that under-12 match, and that's for the Griffins Éir Óg against Karen O'Cashill. That's my lot for this evening. Special thanks to Pat here with me on technical, and we'll talk to you in a week's time. Hello, good evening listeners. Welcome to Talk Sport on this Monday evening. And the headlines this evening on a very busy week of sport. Galway make it through to the Ireland football final with a hard-fought victory over Donegal on a scoreline of 114 to 15 points. They will now contest the final in two weeks' time against Armagh who overcame Kerry in the other semi-final there. So that was great excitement there in Croke Park on Sunday and well done to everybody there. So the mad rush for tickets will start now. In other sports, Spain defeat England in the Euro final two goals to one with a late winner there. So England's wait for a trophy continues, 58 years and counting. In tennis, Novak Djokovic was defeated by Carlos Alcaraz of Spain who defended his Wimbledon title there in straight sets winning 6-2, 6-2, 7-6. In golf, Rob McIntyre wins the Scottish Open and Ollies will be on Ryletroon next week for the British Open there. And Rory McIlroy finished quite strong, he was on 14-under there in the Scottish Open. So he'll be hoping for a good week next week. And the All-Ireland Hurling Final will take place next week as well. Clare versus Cork and the build-up will be interesting for that. Both teams contested the 2013 final and it'll be interesting to see who emerges on that. It's been a very busy week of sport both locally and internationally. We'll try and touch on some of the scorelines. Well done to Niamh Faheen on Cloughan and Clifton there, their under-16s won their division 4 league title there with a hard-fought victory against a team from Cartoon Shamrocks there. And the scoreline there, Clifton 8-5, Cartoon Shamrocks 5-13, so well done to them. And Karnakashal Napirshi had success at under-16 level as well when they had a good victory over Caltra in the county final there last week. Karnakashal 4-18, Caltra 1-11, so a comprehensive win, well done to them. And then continuing on with the success, the Karnakashal Napirshi under-14 girls won their Westport county final against Nibana Lechamore. The game played in Rismukh there at the weekend. And a hard-fought match, Karnakashal Napirshi 1-9, Nibana Lechamore 2-4. So Karnakashal overcoming a half-time deficit there of around 5 or 6 points. They held Nibana scoreless in the second half and came out with a two-point victory. That was their second year winning the under-14 title. And we give a special mention to the team and management. The Karnakashal team, Aoibhe Ní Siarí, Nial Ní Bheannín, Sirke Ní Dunsleaba, Marta Ní Cachasí, Sofia Quinteria, Katero Akinna Ní Boracú, Mora Nóra Ní Conway, Claire Ní Mulcairon, the captain, Chloe Ní Cainí, Chloe Borch, Sarah Ní Dúnnacha, Molly Ní Cúillan, Kate Inge Ní Hallachan, Róisín Ní Croa, Eleanor Ní Conneala, Sophie Pláirtí, Erin Ní Leigh, Lily Ní Mulcairon, Eva Pláirtí, Cliana Ní Wadhain, Róisín Rannach and Iona Ní Leigh. And the management team, there was Mora Ní Conway, Padrao Siarí and Valerie Quintero. Well done the other assistants there, Austin Rannach, Pauline Ní Boracú and Dolores Ní Wadhain. So well done, again a good victory. And they had a hard-fought match there. So good celebrations there, they went around to all the local areas there and it was well done for the management. So they will start to prepare now for the championship matches later on in the season. But well done to all concerned there at the victory there at the weekend. Now of course there was great excitement in GAA Circlesport Galway beating Donegal on a scoreline I think of 14 to 15 points to secure their place in the All-Ireland Final in two weeks' time. So it will be a mad rush for tickets, it will be a great excitement and they will play Armagh in that unique final there in two weeks' time. So quite a large contingent from both Casual and Connemara and Galway in general travelled up to the match. Great excitement, maybe not the most exciting game overall but great to get the victory in the end and the mad rush as I said for tickets will start now. The All-Ireland Hurling Final will take place next week, Cork versus Clare and I'm sure there will be a lot of hurling fans going to that as well. Now on the international scene of course the Euros were, the finals were held there last night in Germany. The great I suppose people were watching there to see if England could overcome their 58 year drought for a trophy. They failed in the end, Spain coming out victorious, two goals to one in that match there. A lot of people I suppose hoping that the best team won and Spain possibly did over the course of the 90 minutes come out on top. Now they had won all of their seven matches in the Euro campaign for 2024, seven wins out of seven beating the likes of Italy, Germany, France, England and Croatia. They scored early in the second half with a goal by Nico Williams after 47 minutes, he's only 22 and then England equalised after 73 minutes with Cole Palmer and that made for a grandstand finish. But in the 86th minute the Spanish hero was Miquel Ollalazabal and he got the winner there to ruin the hearts of England fans and secure the Euros for the fourth time for Spain. So they were probably as I said worthy winners overall. One of the stories of the tournament was the youngster who was 16 years of age for most of the tournament until he turned 17 there on the Saturday and that was Lamine Yamal and he played quite well in the final. He got the young player of the tournament and Rodri the Manchester City player got the player of the tournament. So overall there was I think five players as well with the joint top score with three goals. So it wasn't a huge amount, normally it's four or five goals that will win that competition but Harry Kane was among them and that was I suppose something that he won out over the course of the tournament. He might not have had the best of tournaments, a lot of debate about Gareth Southgate now but he did get them to a final, the second Euro finals in succession and again they certainly could have packed their bags a lot earlier in the tournament had they not got some late scores there particularly I think against Slovakia but overall not the worst tournament and Spain winning all of their seven games in the tournament were the winners in the end. So the weight goes on, 58 years and counting. Also in soccer Argentina won the Copa America, defeating Colombia 1-0 after extra time. The scorer there was Lautaro Martinez who scored in the 112th minute so that was the 16th win in the Copa America for Argentina. Colombia have only one win in this back in 2001. There was a lot of I think disturbance before the match with crowds etc and a bit of a long half-time interval there for a concert. I think it was about 25 minutes of an interval there so a little bit like the Super Bowl so a lot of discussion about that but as I said Argentina and Spain the winners there of the two major trophies over the course of the weekend. Now moving on with some other sports just to say in tennis Carlos Alcaraz defended his Wimbledon title with a 6-2, 6-2, 7-6 win over Novak Djokovic in the Wimbledon finals. So he was on top from early on and never relinquished his hold on the title there so Djokovic showing a little bit of his age and admitted as much afterwards but he has 24 grand slams. This is Alcaraz's fourth title. He's won the French a number of weeks ago and now the Wimbledon title and he has four at the tender age of 21 so he's certainly one for the future. In golf Rob McIntyre of Scotland won the Scottish Open there on a score of minus 18. He won from one stroke from Adam Scott, the Australian there and of course the British Open at Royal Troon takes place next weekend. Rory McIlroy finished on minus 14 in the Scottish Open there so he wasn't too far away so I'm sure he's gearing up for a good run at Royal Troon in the British Open to make up for his disappointment in the recent US Open. Now in rugby Ireland beat South Africa with a late Kieran Frawley drop goal and this was Eddie Farrell's 40th win in his 50th game in charge there so a good record overall and they share the series there, one of. So Frawley making a good name for himself and I'm sure they will regroup. A lot of young players coming through, some of the old guard may be leaving but I'm sure they will regroup for the upcoming season and the Six Nations etc. They are no longer ranked number one in the world but still a very formidable team so well done to them on that. In Formula One Max Verstappen I should say is still leading the chase there on 255 points in the Drivers' Championship. Now the next race up and coming is the Hungarian Grand Prix at the weekend there so halfway through the season and the whole tournament and the competition will go into December I think December 6th there when the competition finishes so plenty of points to be won, lots of races ahead. So the Hungarian Grand Prix at the weekend Verstappen leads on 255 from Lando Norris on 171 and Leclerc on 150 and of course going back to the British Grand Prix there a couple of weeks ago that was won by Lewis Hamilton winning his ninth Grand Prix at the British Grand Prix the only person to win nine at any one race venue in Formula One history so he's not going to win the title this year but he's still going strong and he's going to be joining Ferrari next year so plenty of interesting races ahead there in the weeks ahead. Right, so those are the main stories from right around the world and as I said it will be interesting to see now with the run into the soccer season and the restart of the Premiership the transfer market has been fairly quiet so it may pick up now after the Euros have finished I know Manchester United and one or two of the other clubs have been busy with some transfers in the last few days so hopefully we'll keep you up to date on that and again the look into the All-Ireland Finals over the next two weeks the hurling as we said next Sunday and the football in two weeks time it should be of great interest so as I said we will keep you updated on all ongoing matters in sport.
