Paul Dennen here with your Monday Night Sports Roundup and we start with the LGFA. Adult Division 2 League results as follows. McCullin 4-14, Cardistran 7 points, St James' 6 points, Octorard 2-7. Barna 1-7, N'Vanna Letremore 7 points. And Groynewaels 3-6, Toom Cartoon 5-10. So a depleted Groynewaels losing out there to Toom Cartoon yesterday. The league table is as follows. McCullin in first place there on 6 points from 2 matches played. Barna, Octorard and N'Vanna Letremore in joint second on 6 points from 3 matches played. That win in their opening fixture puts Toom into 5th place there on 3 points from just the one match. Groynewaels 6th on 3 points from 3. Cardistran 7th on 0 points from 2. And St James' there on the bottom on 0 points from 3. A massive game next Saturday evening in Letterfrag for Groynewaels and it really is an absolute must-win if they're to keep their top 4 hopes alive. And it's a home match against Cardistran and Groynewaels will be favourites going into that match. Division 5 level, Karen O'Cashill not in action. But they are in action this coming Wednesday in Rosmuck at 7pm against Holtill, Nott, Nakara B. And also next Sunday the 28th they have another league game in Division 5 there and they're at home to Unspidja there at 2pm. Karen O'Cashill currently playing their home matches in Rosmuck as they're keeping the Karen O'Pitch free from all engagements until the Comórtas Peile na Gaeilte at the weekend. So of course the Comórtas Peile na Gaeilte is a Cliffie Cáirfidh Cannaist. She had Karen O'Cashill before she'd walk over and now she's in the pier. No-one remembers that Cliff. And Groynewaels 6th on 3 points from 3. So a big win there for Groynewaels in their quarter-final match. Lás Daruileamh, that was the first ever Comórtas Peile na Gaeilte match that Groynewaels have played. So if Groynewaels play Ireland on Monday, that's the bank holiday Monday, they'll be travelling out to play the Aran Islands in the semi-final. And you'll hear more from Karen O'Cashill at home against Mícheál Brannachs in the other semi-final. An under-16 fixture to hand there. Karen O'Cashill away to Niamh Annaletta-Moore. That's on tomorrow evening, the 23rd of April. Badminton next, starting with a Connacht inter-county final. This was at intermediate B level. And local interest here centred on Claddagh Duff player Daniel Price Williams. Galway 7, Roscommon 2. Mayo 6, Roscommon 3. And in the Connacht final there, heartbreak for Galway, losing out 5-4 to their nearest and fiercest rivals there, Mayo. Daniel Price Williams won both of his singles matches there. So fair play to him. But Galway losing out there. And they don't get to go to the University of Limerick this coming Sunday, the 28th, for the inter-counties finals. Daniel's sister, Florence, she will be travelling to Limerick. And congratulations to her on making the Galway junior B team there. And they're in action against Carlow and Waterford. All roads heading to UL next Sunday for those inter-county Badminton finals. Four-letter frack players, Paul Gannon, Simon Stokerski, Parikh Conroy and Katie Daly, they'll be lining out for Galway at intermediate A level. Two very tough assignments there for Galway intermediate A against Cork and Dublin. They're on court at 10am in the morning against Cork. The losers of that match will play Dublin at 12.30am, with the winners playing Dublin at 3pm. So massive expectation and anticipation in the Badminton community ahead of one of the biggest days on the Badminton calendar, the All-Ireland inter-county finals at all levels. Galway will also be entering teams at senior B and senior A level. They had a very successful outing in Dublin last year, picked up a couple of All-Ireland titles and will be hoping to do the same this time around in Limerick. Rugby next, just one item, no report from Leigh this week. She tells me there are two finals upcoming for Connemara and she'll have details in due course. The focus switches to the Connacht Juniors inter-provincial series and they're in action in their Round 1 opening match away to Ulster this coming Saturday. Two Connemara players involved there, Ethan Griffiths and Tommy Mullen. Best of luck to the two lads, hope they make the first 15 and they have a good outing. Connacht are home to Leinster in Round 2 on Saturday, May 4th and it's Craig's Rugby Football Club who will be given the honour this time of hosting Connacht's home match. It fell to Connemara last year and in Round 3 Connacht are away to Munster, that's on May 11th and no venue confirmed for that one yet. Soccer next and West Coast United's match against West United. I'm assuming it wasn't played, couldn't get a result for it, was to have been played yesterday in Galway. There was a match played though that's of pretty important significance to West Coast United. Coral Brangers who currently lie third from bottom were beaten 6-2 by Corab Celtic yesterday and they're currently on 18 points from 19 matches. So they have 3 matches left out of their 22. West Coast United are 10 points behind them but they have 3 matches in hand and were they to win those 3 matches they'd be within a point of Coral Brangers. So still all to play for for West Coast, they don't have any fixture next weekend. The U13 Division 1 decider between Merlin Woods and West Coast United, which was to have been played, wasn't played either and West Coast U15s who were also to play Merlin Woods at Division 1 level, their match didn't go ahead either. Just one match did go ahead and it was for West Coast United U13 boys, first round of the Division 3 Cup and they had a 3-0 victory there at home to Merview United B and will also have home advantage for Round 2 on the 27th, that's next Saturday, 12 noon in Letterfrack against Colga B. So Divisions 2 and Division 3, they're amalgamated for that Cup competition so it'll be tough for the West Coast United U13s as they play at Division 3 level but they are through and after Coventry City's exploits in Wembley at the weekend I suppose, anything is possible in the Cup as they say in soccer. Golf next, Open Stapleford competition last Friday the 19th of April, Men's Division 1 winner was Josh Marks on 41 points, Paul Donlan was runner-up on 39 points, the gross went to Conor Stapleton on 35 points gross, at Division 2 level it was Brian McGranaghan who came out on top on 43 points, second Frank Holland on 42 points and the ladies winner there was Brita Cummins on 38 points. And yesterday was a stroke competition, at Men's Division 1 level it was Seamus Burke 67 net, in second place Declan Mannion 67 net, in third Limo Kniele 68 net and the gross winner there was Conor Stapleton on 70 gross. At Division 2 level the winner was Michael Harris on 64 net, runner-up Parik O'Donoghue on 65 net with Damian Morrissey there on 66 net in third place. In the ladies competition it was yet another win for our own Grainne O'Malley here at the radio station on 67 net, followed by Debbie Ruddy also 67 net with the gross going to Rena Murphy on 82, third was Aoife McCormack on 68 net with Mary Howley fourth there on 68 net. And we wrap up tonight with GAA and it's just mad busy at the moment so here are the results and fixtures that I have to hand. Starting with Adult League 4B West. Rynvael 311, Mike Cullen 311, a hugely entertaining match that I witnessed myself first hand in letter frack on Saturday night. Rynvael 5 points up at the break, got blitzed in the middle of the second half, found themselves 5 points down but hit 2 late goals to go a point up only for Mike Cullen to come back and square off the match again with a last gasp point. A very fair result on the night and a first league point there for Rynvael and well done to them. And GAA fixtures for the week ahead. Starting tonight, Monday the 22nd of April, under 19 C West, Upterard vs Anorki Clonburr at 7pm in Upterard. Tomorrow, Tuesday the 23rd of April, under 15 Division 4, Clonburr vs Barnaby at 7pm in Clonburr, Rynvael and I Killannan at 7pm in letter frack. Also on Tuesday night, under 15 Division 3, Clifton vs Mike Cullen at 7pm in Clifton and Clare Galway be at home in Nottinghamore against Cornicastle and Piercy at a quarter to seven. So that's on Tuesday. Thursday, April the 25th, schools match here and a big game in the Juvenile Football Championship for Clifton Community School. They travel to the Connick Centre of Excellence to take on Drumshambo from Leitrim. That match throwing in at 12.30. Back to the club scene on Thursday, under 19 C lead West at 6.30pm in Rosmuck, Cornicastle and Piercy in I Upterard. Next Friday, April the 26th, under 13 Division 3, Cornicastle and Piercy in I Ballyclarnagallia and Upterard against Clifton. Under 13 Division 4 West at 7pm in letter frack, Rynvael against Barnaby. Under 17 C, Clifton are at home to Clamborgh at 7pm in Clifton. This is all happening next Friday night. Also on next Friday, in Adult Football Junior B Championship West, Cornicastle, Somalia and I Ní Fahín an Clodhondas. Cornicastle home to Clifton at 7pm in Carna. Saturday, April the 27th, Division 3 B, Clifton's A team are at home to St. Brendan's 4.30 throw-in there in Clifton. In the 4B league, Clamborgh travel to Crestwood to play Father Griffin's Era Ogue with a 6pm throw-in there. And finally tonight, Sunday, the 28th of April, next Sunday, in the 4A league, Cornicastle, Somalia in I Saltillnatnacarra B. 11am throw-in there, very early throw-in for that one. Also on next Sunday, under 13 Division 3 West, Ornmarmarie B are at home to Clifton, or sorry are away to Clifton, so Clifton home advantage for that one, 11.30 throw-in there in Clifton. Good evening listeners, welcome to Connemara Community Radio and Talk Sport. On this fine, very fine evening, the 22nd of April 2024. And the headlines this evening in GA, Galway had a tight win over Roscommon and the Horlicks had an easy victory over Carrara. And great news for local soccer players, Eva Mitchell, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Adrian Mitchell and Nisha Barry, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Barry, were in the team that defeated Roscommon in the under 14s. I know Eva went back to goals for that game and that was in the under 14 kind of final and they were the only players from this side of the curve, so congratulations and well done to the parents as well. In rugby, Linster looking good for the cup and Connock 54 and Zebra 16 in the United Rugby Championship. Soccer tied to the top of the premiership and in Grand Prix, Max Verstappen wins Chinese again, so he's looking very strong for the Championship. Now coming up shortly, I will speak to Bernard Lee and I hope to speak to Dominic Antoine as well, but we'll start off with the Grand Prix and put Bernard, welcome Bernard, thanks for taking the call. Good evening William. And as I was saying there in the introduction, it looks as if Max Verstappen is going to win it easy enough. Yeah, well as we've discussed before Viv, there's very little when all things go well for him and let's say the only thing that has stopped him already really this year has been the reliability where he didn't finish one race, which is unusual, but now what was interesting about this week, they have these sprint races as well, so they had qualifying for that and it adds points if you win that. I think it might be over 25 laps there on the Saturday, so he won that as well, but he wasn't on pole position for that, I think he was third or fourth maybe for that, but he came through the race, so I think he got 8 points for that and then all of the others coming behind him would have got points as well, so it's not as if he gains 8 points on the rest of the field. And they brought these in at various race venues, I suppose it does add a little bit to it, it's still a test of speed and ability and that and I'm sure it's great, it's like two races on the one weekend I suppose for the fans and that, but he got the 8 points and then qualified pole for the actual race on the Sunday and Julie came through, was only headed when he went into the pits and secured an easy enough win by 13 seconds in the end. So he finished ahead of Perez and Leclerc and Carlos Sainz and it's interesting, we've seen Ferrari come into the fore, but also the emergence of McLaren there and the demise I suppose of Mercedes and Hamilton is down on 19 points in the Drivers' Championship whereas Verstappen is 110 and Hamilton is even second to his teammate there, Russell and it's a very low return, but we know they're having problems and we know Hamilton is moving next year hopefully to Ferrari and that might see a change in his fortunes, but Verstappen is just imperious out at the front there and Perez obviously is making his impact but not as much, he was I think 6 tenths down on some of the lap times, so that's in the same car as Verstappen, so it goes to show you the dominance, 6 tenths is a huge amount per lap in any race and as I said he's a good teammate, they're likely to win the Constructors as well, they're 195 points in the Constructors and a good 44 points ahead of Ferrari, but as I said Verstappen up there on 110 in the Drivers, 85 for Perez, 76 for Leclerc and 69 for Carlos Sainz, so as I said the emergence of McLaren who many years ago they were the form team but they haven't been to the fore and you have them coming to the fore there, but as I said you also had the Aston Martin there with Fernando Alonso and he finished in the points as well, he's always there about decent enough qualifying as well, but I'd have to say it's very predictable at the moment, no matter whether he finishes starting the race on pole or not, Verstappen is very hard to win over race distance, he just seems to come to the fore such as his speed. That's right, as a driver is he better than all the rest or is it just the car he's driving? Yeah that debate has always gone on, we've gone back to the Schumacher days and the Hackenheim days, the Coulthard days, you had Ayrton Senna, Mansell, Nicky Lauda you know and then into the recent years obviously Michael Schumacher you know he won his five titles in a row in the early 2000s and he was seen as the best of his generation and look at the great drivers, the best drivers always get the best cars and they get the best team around them so it all comes into that, but what's interesting about Verstappen he has so many records, I think he's one of the youngest Grand Prix winner, he won that many years ago there when he was with one of the lower ranked teams, so laps per race I think already he's got a lot of the records already in place and he's setting his sights you know this could be his fourth title in a row, it doesn't seem that long ago where we had that last lap dramatic race against Hamilton there just two or three years ago and all of a sudden now he's going for four titles, but that was dramatic as I said once he gets the first the rest seem to follow, but he certainly will be the best of his generation, we know Hamilton is you know he's getting on now and he might be coming to the end of his career even though he's probably going to have a few years with Ferrari, but he's still a good driver and it would be interesting to see you know you can never be sure what they're like in equal cars, no car is going to be equal unless you're a team mate and then you know there's that debate will always be there, but I think the records will show that he certainly is a very rare talent and has been from very younger days in go-karting and in the other Grand Prix series, in the other racing series before you get into the Grand Prix or the Formula One shall we say, so anyways as I said and of course his daddy has the pedigree, his dad was a Formula One racer as well just for a step and then he was a decent enough driver, so the pedigree is there and it's probably in the genes, but yeah but it would be nice to have a little bit more of competition and as I said the best that Ferrari can offer, they're still a little bit off and Perez as a team mate's not doing so well and then you know unless we get the likes of a George Russell there coming through maybe the best of British Hamilton maybe in a good car next year, if we've got good races and good competition and a tight championship then I think that's what the fans would like, but for now anyways I said bearing accidents I don't see anybody winning the title but for a step and right okay we better leave it at that, next is the USA next one? I think it is yes, yeah the USA so that's another interesting Grand Prix and we mentioned before I think there's 24 races on the calendar, all parts of the world are covered, lots of traveling and you know China to the USA, I don't know if they have a week of a break or two weeks, but anyways lots of traveling, we know they've been out in the Far East and at the start of the series of Grand Prix's for 2024, so look at lots of traveling and a long season as it'll be late November maybe into early December I think when the final race is so lots of points to be won and lost in the meantime, okay we leave that so and we move on to the, well before we go to the Premiership we might have a look at the semi-finals, City 1 Chelsea 0, I think we predicted that didn't we? Yeah I think yeah well I'd always go, it's very rare that I'd back against City and especially, well having said that this was a game they possibly should have lost and it was a game they were second best, they were coming off the back of the penalty defeat to Real Madrid and the Champions League quarter-final there and certainly that took its toll out of them, they were possibly the better team, both didn't play very well, had a few chances but Chelsea dominated and missed a lot of good chances and it was a late, in the late sort of a winner by Silva there and up to that point I think Chelsea could have been one or two ahead and I'd say it would have been certainly a different result, Chelsea they reached the League Cup final earlier in the year, played well but certainly their finishing let them down and so they got over the line and they'll be in the final and of course we know the other semi-final was very dramatic, Manchester United and Coventry, yeah yeah and you know 3-0 I think United 3-0 up with about 20 minutes to go, a few changes, substitutes and then the wheels came off for United and they were very fortunate with a VAR decision that Coventry didn't win it right at the end of extra time I think and but very dramatic and you know a lot of question marks, certainly the manager would have been gone had they lost it, they went to penalties, missed their first penalty as well and then really and truly Coventry only had to score five successful penalties to be in the Cup final and to conclude one of the greatest fight backs of all time but as we know that's easier said than done and they missed two in a row, the goalkeeper saved one on Anna and then one was blazed over the VAR and you know they came through on it's poor too, very fortunate and they will now contest the second year in a row Manchester City and Man United in the Cup final, City obviously won last year 2-1 so a repeat of that and City will be going for the double later on when that final comes around so we'll see how they obviously go, a lot of tough Premiership matches to go but that's their hope that they might complete a double, they cannot get the treble, obviously Real Madrid seem a bit to debt to put them out on the penalties but still a lot to fight for and some big matches ahead for Man City. Right, we'll have a quick look through the Premiership and we'll take a few of them, we won't take the whole lot, Luton 1, Brentford 5, that was a comprehensive away win. Yeah, Luton struggling at the bottom there again and across Brentford now more or less securing their position there, they're up on 35 points and that was a good win, good to get goals as well and you know they've been topsy-turvy and possibly should be a little higher up but look as long as they secure their position that's what matters, Luton I'm afraid will have a bit of a struggle, they're still not out of it, they're a little bit tight there, what they have 26 points, well no they have 25, or is it 26, Luton 25 yeah and that's as far as 26 so that's tight enough, right we'll take one more, Wolves nail Arsenal through, that was a good away win for Arsenal. Yeah, a good test after their loss last week and you know the way they've left Man City themselves and Liverpool had losses last week so they're coming off the back of that and also losing in midweek in the Champions League as well, so a difficult week, Wolves are a very difficult opposition and they came through with a late goal, the second goal was late on in injury time but they were 1-0 up and they were probably good value for it as well, so again some tough matches ahead, their next match I think we might come to will be the North London derby against Spurs and that could be a tough one but look at City, I know are playing midweek as well, I think it's Brighton tomorrow night, that's a huge game, could be one of their toughest fixtures on the run-in and if they get the point, they have a game in hand, obviously City and Arsenal and Liverpool have jumped above them with the extra game there over the weekend, so it's tight up there and you know there's two 74s and a 73 so Liverpool just behind Arsenal on the goal difference and that but yeah so again before we come to next week's fixtures there'll be a few results already in place there so obviously everybody will be watching City against Brighton and if they can get the win and if they drop points in that it'll certainly make it even more interesting but yeah City will be hungry for you know the double and it's still well within their reach. Right, we better go through next week's one, tomorrow the Premiership, Arsenal versus Chelsea, now that's a tasty one. Yeah, yeah very interesting one, Chelsea have been improving, if they can find a regular goal scorer they certainly have it in a lot of other areas of the field, you know they're improving under Pochettino, some would say, some think he might not be the man for the job. I'm going to go with a draw, I think Chelsea might have a bit about them, Arsenal are playing well, maybe the pressure might tell on them, Chelsea don't have a huge amount, I think they're out of the European positions really, they're down on 47 points but I suppose there's a certain amount of pride and certainly Pochettino, he needs good results in the run-in to secure his job, especially having lost the semi-final but overall you know a couple of good wins under his belt, especially in a derby, a London derby and if he took a little bit of the wind out of the sails of Arsenal that would be a feather in the cap, so I'll go 1-1 with that I think. Yeah okay, which one wins then? Crystal Palace versus Newcastle, Newcastle are back on a day seed, are they? No they're not too bad. Well Newcastle are, they're not where they would like to be and obviously they finished fourth I think last year, so got into the Champions League and again, yeah they're interesting, they're on the same points as Man Utd and you know 10 points adrift of Spurs and it's unlikely fifth place will qualify for a Champions League but it would get you into the Europa League, so there's a lot to fight for there, so I think you know, I'm going to go with a Newcastle win on that, I'll go 2-1 on that one, I think they might just have enough about them and they're showing a bit of improved form. Right, another derby coming up, Everton and Liverpool? Oh yes, another big one, yeah now Everton have been very poor really, they've got a good result at the weekend but just overall I think the days of these derbies been good matches, look it's a good test, you can never tell, I have to go with an away win I think for Liverpool there because they can't afford any more slip-ups, even a draw would be a huge setback for them, so tight is the Championship, so I'm going to go with a 2-1 away win to Liverpool on that to maintain their title challenge. Okay, then that's at 8 o'clock, the next one is 8 o'clock as well, United versus Sheffield United? Yeah, they're struggling, they're going down, they're going to be playing Championship football next year, look at United, they're still in a sort of a shout for the European position, especially with Spurs having some tough matches ahead, so look they're going to have a bit of pride, with United I think at home on that one I'll go with a 2-1 win for them on that Manchester United. For United, Wolverhampton versus Bournemouth? Yeah, so there isn't much between them and the table, just a point, but Wolves showing good form, but I'm going to go with a home win for that, I'm going to go with Wolves 3-1 I think on that, which will consolidate them, they're in 11th position there and their recent form, they might not always get the results, but their play deserves it and I could see them getting the home win there 3-1. Right, Torstedden, Brighton versus Man City? Yeah, obviously that's a big one there, we mentioned before, so it's an away one for Man City, one of their tougher matches on the run and they have a few tough games, they'll have Spurs I think as well, but this is a big one, I'm going to go with an away win, I think City know what they have to do and they've got no distractions with European football now and they're more or less injury free, so I'm going to go 3-1 away win there to Man City. Right, we look through, we just have time to look through the Saturday one, Aston Villa versus Chelsea? Yeah, Villa very much looking for the fourth position, they're on a good run of form and I've got to say I'd like them to drop points to benefit Spurs, but I'm going to go with a home win, Villa 2-1 Chelsea. Everton versus Brentford? Yeah, Everton at home needing the points, hopefully on the back of a derby win maybe they might be hoping against Liverpool, I'm going to go Everton 2-1 Brentford. Fulham versus Crystal Palace? Yeah, again Fulham decent enough at the moment, 12th and Palace in 14th, I'm going to draw that 1-1. United versus Burnley? Yeah, United at home, Burnley struggling at the bottom and I'm afraid they're not going to pick up points here, I think I'm going to go with United, they might be looking ahead to the Wembley Cup final and players might be showing a bit more form, hoping to get into the game, so I'm going to go confidently 3-1 Manchester United on that one, home win. Newcastle versus Sheffield United? Yeah, poor old Sheffield United again, Newcastle are going to continue their run I think, I'd say they'll finish the season strongly, certainly home win, so I'm going to go 2-0 to Newcastle on that one. West Ham versus Liverpool? Yeah, a big one, but West Ham on the back of a big hiding at the weekend there and David Moyes under huge pressure, Liverpool look at it, they're good home and away, they need this three points to keep the title challenge ahead and I'd be confident they will, I'm going to go 3-1 away win for Liverpool. Right and finally, we'll leave it at that, Wolves are at home against Luton? Yeah, so poor old Wolves as I said, but even more so poor old Luton down at the bottom, they're still in with a shout, but I'd say they might struggle, they got the big defeat at the weekend there, so I'm going to be confident enough, Wolves 2-1 home win on that to consolidate their position and to put further pressure on poor old Luton as they try to fight off the relegation, which I don't think they will, but yeah, it's tight at the bottom and tight at the top. Tight at the top, right. Okay, we better leave this Bernard, we're running out of time, so a cone of day, we'll speak to you next week again and we'll see how these results go and we'll predict the future again for next week, thanks again for taking our call Bernard. Okay babe, good evening. So I'll hand you back now to Grainne. You're tuned to Connemara Community Radio, or why wouldn't you? Welcome back, I have on line now, Dominic Lynch, welcome Dominic. Good evening brother, how are you? Good now, great weather for golf? At long last brother, at long last, absolutely glorious weather. You're probably piling on the scores, are you? Yeah we are, well there's a lot of lads piling on the scores. Oh tell me, better than you. Apparently so brother, even when I think I'm doing well, I don't appear to be doing as good as I thought. I see, and you're still probably great. I have results here for you, if you want me to give the results from Friday and Sunday. Yes, please. Friday was an open Sabreford, in Division 1 with Josh Marks came first, playing off 7 with 41 points, second was Paul Donlon playing off 15 with 39 points, the gross went to Conor Stapleton off scratch with 35 points gross. Division 2 was won by Brian McGrahan playing off 23 with 43 points, and second was Frank Holland playing off 20 with 42 points. Brady Connors, our lady captain, won the ladies prize playing off 28 with 38 points. And then yesterday, we get the scoring for this brother. Yesterday was our second golfer of the year stroke competition, in Division 1 with handicaps up to 17.8. First place went to Seamus Burke off 12 with 67 nets, with a better back 9. Second was Declan Mannion off 21 with 67 nets, and third was Lemo Kaneda off 20 with a 68 net. Conor Stapleton took the gross again, playing off scratch with 70 gross. And Division 2, which was 17.9 to 54, was won by Michael Harris off 22 with 64 nets. Harvey Dunne, who came second off 23 with 65 nets, and Damian Morrissey came third off 22 with 66 nets, with a better back 9. The ladies was won by that lady sitting beside you there, Coronia Maddy, playing off 17 with 67 nets, with a better back 9. Beating her good buddy Debbie Ruddy into second place, playing off 17 with 67 nets. Young William Murphy took the gross. What was that? Are they keeping it between themselves? It very much looks that way, for all Duda Murphy's getting shoved to one side by the young guns. She may not come back though. I wouldn't be ruling Duda Murphy out just yet. No, not yet. She has a lot of experience to handle these young guns. That's true, when the winds grow up, she'll get better. When the rough starts growing up, she'll start proving herself. Reena Murphy took the gross, playing off 6 with 82 gross. Ethan McCormick was third, playing off 20 with 68 nets. Mary Howley was fourth, playing off 29 with 68 nets also. But yes, some unbelievable scores, and the new handicapping system seems to have given everyone a lot more shots. I think most of the men have an extra 2 or 3 shots that they had, and the scoring seemed to reflect that. So hopefully it'll level itself off after a couple of months. It'll come down bit by bit, I suppose. If I shoot a 67, I might get a prize for it. Watch my plane partner, I have to say actually, my plane partner, named Mocanela, had a 7 on the third because he went into the bunker and couldn't get out, and had an 8 on the 18th, and he still shot 68 nets. Oh jeepers, that was good going. You were cut a shot, was that true, and you got no prize? I was cut a shot, cut a shot, and didn't even get a bag of Smarties, I didn't. That's terrible, terrible carry on, what's happened to golf club Wisconsin, wreck and ruin entirely. So anyway, travel on, what's on next week? Now we have our Open Staveford continuing on again this week, it's continuing until the end of June, weather looks pretty good for it, and we have a Stingles Staveford next Sunday for the members. Oh for the members, great. And we're in the process of, we have Gerard Murphy and Judy Donnell are through to the semifinals of the PK Joyce Cup, and we have a series of matches in that, where the ladies seem to be dominating this year, much to the disgruntled men's view, but however, it's all about golf and the best players proceed. So do men only want to play against men? The men are having a big cry for themselves because the girls are beating them. They'll get over it. Yeah they will, and we have our Manny Cup and Waldron Cup first rounds are to be played between now and the 5th of May. So at least now we have a bit of weather, there's no excuses not to be playing these matches. That's true, and any inter-club competitions? And we have entered, I think it's six clubs, seven events we've entered, but they're not, I don't think the first one is happening until time in the middle of May, I think. Oh yeah, so there's plenty of time, yes. There's plenty of time, and judging by our men's performance, good job too, because it appears they need a bit more time practicing. One more time, great. So that is so, Dominic. That's all I have for you this week, brother. Great, so we'll speak to you next week again, and hopefully the men will do a bit better than this time. Or at least stop complaining if they can't do better, stop complaining. Yeah, you can put a notice up on the board about that. Okay, we'll speak to you next week. Thanks Dominic. No problem, brother, thanks for having me. Dominic Lynch there, and what I'll do now is I'll hand you back again the crania, and then we hope to have Tony Kine and see how, I think I might have mentioned at the beginning that Galway had a tight win over Roscommon, but of course it was Slagers who were playing. Roscommon were playing Mayo, and they were beaten by 115 to 13 pounds, whereas Galway won 113 to 14 pounds. So I'll hand you back to crania, and then we'll speak with Tony. You are listening to Connemara Community Radio, broadcasting on 87.8 and 106.1 FM. You can also listen in to us from outside of the Connemara area on our website, www.connemarafm.com. That was a great tune by Fairport Convention, a nice come-all-ye, bit of Kayleigh going on there to have you dancing around the kitchen. So that's it for tonight. Hope that you'll tune in again next week. Connemara Community Radio, thank you very much for listening, and I hope you enjoyed all of the music. Paul Gerrard, welcome back. I have online now, Tony Connan. Welcome, Tony. Thanks. A busy time in the GE now, and of course, we're glad we were a bit lucky to get... Oh, 100%. Absolutely. It was daylight, as I say, the phrase of daylight robbery, 100%. You know, poor, a poor performance. Yeah, it was a very poor performance, all right. It was a poor performance, not to take away from Saigon. Saigon played well, in fairness, and they kicked some good scores, and you know, they're new to coming through. I guess Saigon's been decent on the 20 level for the last couple of years, and you know, they've won a minor, they'll go back a few years, so they're trying to develop these guys. At the same time, with the experience of God, I mean, you're... Yeah, you'd expect God to win with something to spare. Really, you know, they never got going, you know, the first three minutes, they were trying to work it in, trying to work for goals, and it wasn't working out, and then Saigon were coming down, kicking pints, and all of a sudden, you know, Saigon had the lead, they had the lead all day, and Damien Comer, basically, you know, he came around, he won the match, that's the bottom line. That was a great run of his, wasn't it? It was, it was great, you know, he stole the ball off, you know, the full-back, you know, who had a very good game all day, you know, he just fumbled the ball as Comer took it off, and, you know, he was through with one, you know, he was through with one to the goal, and he just threw it, threw it to the end of the zone, he just finished, and he, you know, fixed it up to about five or ten minutes of goal, and that's what won the game, you know, that's what won the game for them, but, overall, to say that they deserved it would be, you know, I think he'd probably chose it as his actual success, but they were out of Saigon, they were off to victory, and, you know, just on the day, they just seemed flat, you know, and, as a youngster, it just didn't work, I thought, you know, the flowers were poor, overall, you know, a lot of lateral passing, going back and over, going nowhere, you know, no direct ball going in, and, you know, so, I would say, overall, a huge improvement needed, though, because, you know, performance had gotten back up to get them anywhere, you know, but I'm sure... I wonder whether they're thinking of me, or rather than concentrating... Probably, you know, there has to be that bit of complacency there, as well, if you don't know what it was, you know, you're expected to win, all the tipsters are saying it's ten or twelve points yeah, yeah, it's certainly, you know, it was one of the days when they couldn't get going, and Saigon did get going, and, um, but they got the win, that was the most important thing, was to get the win, at the end of the day, yeah, that was important, so it's Sunday week now, I think, is it? It is, it's Sunday week in Pearce Stadium, most of Pearce Stadium, it's actually, like, four o'clock, four o'clock, four o'clock, so, yeah, I think the final is on the 4th, so that's the schedule for two weeks' time now. There'll be a fair crowd at that, won't there? Ah, there will, surely, there will, it's a game, it'll always be a big crowd. Yeah, it'll be, uh, there'll probably be a crowd. Very little, you know, so, yeah, if you look at Galway, we've gone up with three in a row, and they all haven't won it for the last three years, so, you know, they're kept next day, as I said, you know, they're trying to go to Canada, trying to this year, they're going for it, so, uh, Galway also, you know, it also gives you a tough feeling going into the Super, because it's the Super 8, and that's all, and, you know, that's important, too, and, so, yeah, because, as I said, it's a tight match at the end of the day, so they've all got to be confident, full-on, full-on, but, as I said, the minutes, you know, will have to be favourites, judging on yesterday's performance, you know, they were pretty impressive, you know, they got the job done against Roscommon, I think, you know, they rose to control, you know, all day long, and, um, you know, they seem to be in better form than Galway at the moment, but, I suppose, as I said, it's been, you know, it's always right to go, it's always right to go, they seem to get up for it, get up for it, much, but it needs, it needs a much improved performance. Oh, I do, I do, no, no, no, well, of course, they all got off to a great start with, with the goal from, um. It is, I, the goal was a huge, you know, goal is a huge thing in a game, and, you know. It is. It's a goal, you know, it's, if it didn't, they're pushing four or five times, and, whereas Roscommon were chipping away, and, you know, I always thought, really, they all had that, that, that extra, I know about Roscommon, about the back-to-back. Aye, yeah. It always seemed that they all were able to step it up a gear, and move ahead, and, um. I do, well, they never, they never looked like losing the match. No, they didn't really. I must say, I was a bit disappointed with Roscommon, I thought they'd be better, you know. Same as that, too, I think that they've gone backwards, you know, they seem to slip back to the National League, you know, they got relegated. It is. Overall, and I think, you know, their formers did considerably, and it looks like, you know, Roscommon looked like, from where they were, maybe a couple of years ago, they joined outside the side they were a couple of years ago, they seem to be losing a bit of momentum now, they seem to be, you know, it's like, that's, that's, that's where they were a couple of years ago, certainly not where they were a couple of years ago. No, they weren't. So, four o'clock, you're saying, Sunday, Sunday week? That's Sunday, yes, Sunday week, yeah, it's four o'clock, four o'clock, four o'clock on Sunday, first day of the week. Right, so that should be something to look forward to. Now, the hurling is on next Sunday, I think, and Thursday. That's right, I think, yeah, they had a win, the Hurlers had a win yesterday against Carlow. They had, yeah. They weren't close to being off, I think, you know, but... I didn't know if I was it at all, it was, I forget the scoring, no, but... Oh, yeah, 225 to 240. Yeah, I think that we did, again, they're all sitting on short after, you know, Carlow, I admit, it was a bit competitive for a while, but I think, you know, this was a game that they were going to win, and, you know, they didn't start with a full 13. They could score, more or less, when they needed to score, you know. That is, I agree with that. They didn't want to Hamilton out the gate, either, I just... I don't know, look at that, it's too much of a preview, and no, it's not too much of a preview on either Hamilton, so look at it, it was a good workout, that's the way I was showing him the shaft, and what he did, and all that stuff, you know, he got the time into it, and a few guys that didn't start yesterday, so I'm sure, you know, he'd be happy enough with that, but, you know, until he comes to town, you know, it would be a different proposition on next Sunday. Yeah, oh, that would be a sell-off, I'd say, wouldn't it? I would say, of course, not too, I'd say. Or very near, anyway, yeah. Yes, if Kenny would always bring good support, as well, you know. Oh, they will, and that should be a great match. If Whelan is at his best, they'll give him a great run for it, you know. Ah, they will, I would, you'd expect, you'd expect that, certainly would, you know, certainly would be nice, and, as I said, you know, there's a couple of the guys just coming back now, but, so they'll be there, they'll be there, not to full strength, which is what they want at this stage of the year, and Kenny, you know, it would be a good test, certainly, if Kenny Derby, if he had to get going, that would be a good test for both of them, so I promise it'll be a good game, a good game next Sunday, hopefully, you know. Oh, it'll be a great game, I'm looking forward to that, of course, Henry Sheffield, and I'll find it strange against his own team. He will, he will, I suppose, there'll be no Claudio on the sidelines for sightings, you know, but Claudio there, you know, no standoffs or close handshakes or anything, you know, so, so, so, Derek, the manager of the, you heard the last sighting, so, but I said that he, I saw Claudio be around there, he'd be in the stands somewhere, I'm sure he'd be around there, but, They'd, they'd pick him out, anyway. Oh, there's something, there's something we'd be sure. I don't know if he's there or not, they'd pick him out. Oh, yeah, they'd pick him, for sure, they would, for sure. They'd throw up his foot, it was, it was very bad, all right, you know, the shake-hands, they didn't even look at one another. No, they didn't, no, they didn't even look at him in his head, because two teams come together, it's only a game, and, you know, Oh, yeah, yeah. We'll watch the next day, it was a pity, really, because it kind of overshadowed the game. That was it, well, he won so many games for Kilkenny on his own, like, you know. Ah, he did, don't you think, yes, the Zwicky did, for right, you know, one of the best hard-earners I've ever seen, I've ever heard of him, he was great, no doubt. Ah, yeah, he, he, he was outstanding, no, no doubt. So, yeah, for sure. So, will they be selling the tickets beforehand for this match, I wonder? Oh, yes, now, yeah, yeah, it's all, it's all, it's all tickets, it's all online. Yeah. Ah, yeah, look, it's easy enough, you can go online to get access to everything, there's a, there's a Super Values, there's a, there's a, there's a, Oh, yeah, the Super Values are, what? All this interest, there's a, no, it's all on, yeah, you put, you just, there's no, you know, there's no cash, no cash of the day on the turnstile. There's no cash, no. That, that's for every game now, nearly, isn't it? It is for every game now, it's just the way the G8 are, you know, they've gone, that's the way the system is now in place, most of them, but I think most people are used to it now at this stage as well. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Well, once the, you can get it into the supermarkets, it's not too bad, really. Ah, it's not too bad, it's true, it's not too bad, exactly. Because some people wouldn't like. Yeah, the online is certainly. The online, it would be a bit much for, for the older people anyway, I suppose. Certainly for the older people, yeah, it's going to be difficult enough for the youth, so at least it's available in the shops, that sort of thing. Yeah, it's great, oh, yeah. It gives everybody a chance to get their suits. Oh, this is very handy. So, anything, any games locally lately? We had nothing this weekend gone out past, um, next weekend there's quite a number of games on the pitch, and tomorrow evening our under-15s are in action at seven o'clock at home, and they play my colour, and they've had two wins so far, so they're going, they're also a nice team. Is it a nice, they're a nice team, so? Nice team, yeah, nice team there, yeah, so they're, they're going well there in that league, and then on Friday there's two games, and the 13s are down in Uchtdorf, their match, and our under-17s are at home here in Clifton against Cranborough, in their minor league, and then on Saturday our intermediate team are back in action, we have a home game, we're playing St. Brindon's about a year, so that's provisionally six for four, 30 here in town on Saturday. Saturday, yeah. And then, yeah, and then on Sunday our under-13s are in action again, they're playing a lot more up on the pitch there, half eleven, that's a game that's outstandingly played, so, uh, yeah, so, uh, 50 games, 50 games. She's done a lot of games, hasn't she? Ah, yes, she's done a lot of games. Well, the weather's cleared up. Well, the weather's good, so, yeah, certainly, it's badly needed, badly needed, badly needed. Yeah, it's full sight now for all the juvenile out there. Oh, yeah, when I was at Peter Fitz's funeral there, I saw the pitch was in great shape. Yeah, you know, it certainly was, and, you know, we were playing games with other clubs weren't playing, you know, it just had to be mindful of it really, you know, we were trying to save it as best we could, it was difficult for everybody, you know, we were all late coming back training on it, we were in up for hours ourselves, senior ones, two nights a week, which was difficult, but, um, we just couldn't, you know, the pitch, it just wasn't playing like that, so we just pushed on. Yeah, yeah, I suppose it was. We got to it, we got to it, you know, so the weather has picked up now and, uh, Yeah, there should be a good drying now anyway. There's good drying, there's great drying up there now, certainly, you know, from the weekend now, you know, there's a break at the weekend, there's no games in the weekend, so that was good as well, just to give it a chance, so, uh, yeah, so it's, yeah, it's a pretty good order now, that's all, um, as I say, it's, uh, it's needed now because of that, you know, all the clubs are back training, all the teams are back training, the matches are ongoing, but, uh, yeah, so we're, we're, we're happy now, the moment now. Oh, good, there's a lot of usage of it now, isn't there? Ah, there is, there's a lot of usage of it now with all the teams and that, it is, it gets a lot of usage of that, but, uh, it's, uh, it's, uh, it's, uh, as I said, uh, with the weather improving now, the pitch is, the pitch is improving, so that's, that's the way that it's worked. Just to go back to the Holland again, how do, how do you see that game going? Uh, it's difficult, it's difficult, really, to call, I think, you know, um, home advantage might swing it for goal, right? Yeah, yeah. You know, to have them in the stadium there, it might, I don't think they may knock that in, you know, um, maybe a goal, two, three points, uh, again, I think once goal, they can get all their main men back playing, I think, which is vital, and I think if they have them, I think if goalies are as strong as they can be, I think they will have an edge on Kilkenny, but, uh, you know, as I said, a puck of a ball, a puck of a ball, because I think there isn't really much between them overall. No, there, there, there, there is nothing. Yeah, I think the fact, the home, home advantage is just, just might swing it in goal. Yeah, there's a chance. You know, one rule that I, I'm annoyed at myself, I don't know what you think of it, you know, if you're injured, if the goalie's injured, he has to go all the way to the halfway line, and not come back on again until the referee gives him permission. Um, yeah, it is, it is, I don't know where, you know, this rule was brought in, and this was, I suppose, I think on Saturday, the game on Saturday, that people only realized it was a rule that was there, and it sounds, it seems a bit harsh, you know, I mean, like no problem if the goalie's injured, he has to step off the pitch, fine, and then, but he can come back on, I mean, there's no pressure, all the way around, it sounds, you know, it's a bit far-fetched. I think it's a bit silly. I hope they get rid of that eventually. As I said, you know, if he's off behind the goal, the umpires, you know, they're in conversation now with the referees, or during the matches, you know, they can go and find him before he's ready to come back on, and he can step back in. You know, it doesn't, you know, it doesn't stop the player, the ball could be at the other end of the pitch, and he can move back into the goal again straight away. So I think it's something, I think it's something that you would have to look at now again. Probably wasn't fully thought out at the time. I know they're saying that it's to prevent you from stopping the player from paying an injury, and stop the player being slow down. I can understand that aspect of it, but I think it's a bit far-fetched. I don't mind that, because he can get off the pitch near the goal post. He can get off the pitch, that's right. He has to step off the pitch, that's fine, fair enough. Yeah, that's it. He's already stepping off. Yeah, that's fair enough to keep it going, yeah. As you know, as I said, he's not interfering with the player coming back on again, because he can come back on right behind the goal. Yeah, yeah, yeah, that's true. I think maybe it's something that they might need to look at again. Yeah, they might look at that again, yeah. Now, your lotto, what's the situation? Yeah, we're not going to be drawing Friday night. We're down in Bahampton. We had a winner there from Northern Ireland there, John Mangan out in Northern Ireland there was the winner. Oh, great. The winner was 1,000 euro, a nice win for him. So, we're going out again in two weeks' time. That's Friday the 3rd of May, and we'll be up on the street there in Lowry's. Lowry's bar on the night before the draw. 2 euro again, 2 euro for the ticket. Yeah, 2 euro ticket as usual. Usual ticket brackets, yeah. Top prize, top prize, I always wanted that. That was very nice of you. Yeah, okay, Tony, I just see the time is up. So, we'll speak to you next week, and hopefully, God willing, we'll do in Kilkenny. It should be a great game, anyway, I'd imagine. Yeah, hopefully it should. Should have got something again to look forward to next Sunday. Yeah, yeah, okay. Thanks for taking our call, right? All right, talk to you again soon. Bye-bye. Bye-bye. So, listeners, that's about it. My thanks to all the contributors to the program, to Bernard Lee for the membership, Dominic Lynch for the golf, and Tony Kine there for the social. We'll speak to you again next Monday. This is Vivian Sands. Slán agus beannacht. Hogsport and Galway County Council reminds everyone to use a litter bin at all times, and to help ensure that Galway is litter-free. Please play your part.
