Hello dear listeners, we are the first deaf bilingual students and we are there today to tell you about one of our projects this year. Some time ago we invited our grandparents to come to class so they could tell us about their past jobs. Here are some of their interviews translated into English for our English speaking audience. Hi some time ago some of our classmates interviewed Daphne's grandmother Maria Antonia and asked her about her past jobs. Let's tell you all about it. Maria Antonia started working as a farmer at a very young age like the rest of her family until she was 14. Then she moved to Logroño and started working at a house. It was what she knew how to and could do. Obviously she would prefer to study other subjects but because she lived in a village and she didn't have enough money she couldn't. And this is all. Bye. Now we are going to tell you about Delia, Paula's grandma. She has been working in several things like shoemaking and farming. When she was 14 years old she left school and she started to work. She didn't earn much money and the little she earned was spent at home. She feels happy and at the same time a bit sad when she thinks of her jobs in the past. That is because there weren't as many benefits as nowadays. When she was little she wished to be a nurse but she couldn't because in her house there wasn't money enough. The last thing she said was that the women were the only ones that helped at home. Hello. We are Noah, Sebastian and Noah. Today we would like to tell you about Mila and Kike's visit to our class. Mila was the first one to talk and she told us about her career. She has always been a nurse. She enjoyed helping and cleaning kids before surgery. She missed studying her nursing degree for three years to be a nurse. She said that the best part of her job was helping the patients to be happier in bad moments. Then we talked with Kike and he told us about his job. He was a banker. He told us that people went to this office with many problems or to get a loan. He worked in the Vizcaya Bank, now BBVA. First he worked in an office of Soria but later at an office of Mendavia, Navarra, and finished in some office of some village of Navarra. He explained that in the first part of his work anything was difficult but in the end things were getting harder because of new technologies. Bye! Hello, this was Maria Coloma's interview. Here is what she told us. Coloma was one of the first women to study law. There was some discrimination against them so she decided to dive into the topic of marriage to help and support the women. Now there is less discrimination against them because before the discrimination against the women was very pronounced. When Coloma changed to marriage she had to resolve a problem and Coloma supported the women. The client went to Coloma's entrance of his house because the client wanted to kill Coloma. Coloma called the police and they arrested the client. But the good thing is that Coloma didn't have to give up on anything. She had a happy family and things changed for better because before 1925 her husband had to sign a paper if she wanted to work somewhere. Hello, today we are going to tell you about the jobs of Vidal, the grandfather of Martina. She started working as a mechanic when he was 17 years old. The beginnings were tough because he had to work during the day and study at night to finish his studies. But after some years as a mechanic he realized that he liked drawings very much so he started practicing to design machinery. Finally he got an employment as a designer of wine machinery. In this first company he spent 21 years and experimented the first part of the wine bottling process. After he changed of company when he learned the second part of the bottling process. In this last company he worked during 23 years. We finished the interview asking him about his dream job and he told us that in his childhood he wanted to work as an architect. Thank you very much for listening to us and we hope you like Martina's grandfather story. Our room interview José Luis. José Luis told us that he felt very good for his age. When he was a kid there weren't so many things to play. So he played with his spinning top and with his marbles. José Luis turned 17 and started to work the next month. After he changed in the undesired company of Spain. After he changed to some building companies. He retired at 64. He's been 23 years retired. José Luis is 87 years old and speaks French, German, English, Spanish and Euskera. And this is all for today. We hope you have enjoyed our podcast.
