Ponyboy, a greaser, shares his story of the challenges he faces with the rich kids called socks. He recounts a key moment when he and his friend Johnny were attacked by the socks and Johnny ended up killing one of them. They ran away and saved some kids from a burning church, but Johnny got badly hurt. This event made Ponyboy realize that socks have problems too and that they can connect through simple things. He learned that fighting and hate only cause more pain and that it's important to stay true to oneself. Ponyboy hopes readers understand that everyone has struggles and should hold on to the good things in life. Welcome to Literally Legends, the podcast where we explore the lives of famous characters from books. I'm your host, Daniel. Today we have a special guest. He is a greaser. Please, welcome to Ponyboy. Hey, thanks for having me. Ponyboy, what's the biggest challenge you face in your story? The biggest challenge is the fight between the greasers and the socks. The socks are the rich kids who often pick on us because we are different. It's a constant struggle. Can you tell us about a key moment in this conflict? One night, Johnny and I were attacked by the socks in the park. They were trying to drown me and Johnny had to stop them. He ended up killing Bob, one of the socks. That changed everything for us. That sounds intense. What happened next? Johnny and I ran away and hid in an old church. We had time to think about our life and what mattered. Then the church caught on fire and we saved some kids inside. Johnny got badly hurt, which made me realize how precious life is. How did this event change your view of the socks? I saw that socks have problems too. They are not all bad. Cherry balance and socks show me we can connect through simple things, like sunsets. We are all human, no matter where we come from. What did you learn from your experiences? I learned that fighting and hate only causes more pain. Losing Johnny and Dolly was hard, but it taught me to stay true to myself. Reading and writing helped me to deal with my feelings. What message do you hope readers take from your story? I hope readers see that everyone has a struggle, no matter if they are a greaser or a sock. It's important to stay yourself and hold on to the good things in life. Thank you for sharing your story, Ponyboy. It's really inspiring. Thanks for having me. It was good to talk about it. And thank you all for listening to Literary Legends.
