Number grades in school can be stressful because they make us feel judged and encourage comparison with others. They don't always show the full picture of our abilities, leading to unfair evaluations, and can make us focus too much on getting a high grade rather than understanding the material. Additionally, they can create unhealthy competition among students and discourage taking risks on learning. Overall, while number grades have their place, there might be better ways to assess and support students without causing unnecessary stress and pressure. What is the disadvantage to the letter grading system? Letter grades can also create unhealthy competition within the classroom, leading to not only stress but also an unhealthy community between students and teachers. But the National Education Association just reported that high test scores do not automatically equal understanding of the material. Some pros of the letter grading system is due to the fact that it gives a more accurate grade because it has more available information. Last year, I was in an American school where they had a letter grading system that felt a lot more competitive, which allowed the students to strive to be the best. Therefore, better grades were achieved. The letter grading system is definitely more precise. An example is A, B, C, D, and F, and they both have subsections such as A+, A, and A-.
