Charlotte and Whelan are on a glider, but they are actually being fed an illusion. Charlotte confesses her feelings for Whelan and says she wants to grow old with him and have children. Whelan kisses her and says he found peace with her. They decide to stay together for the night. CHAPTER 27 CHARLOTTE AND WHELAN As the glider lifts off from the skies, no one in the company is aware they are being fed an illusion. They are being fed, of course, straight to the feet, though they believe they are scouring the skies. As a result, everyone is carrying on in this fashion, as if they know for sure what lies ahead. Helen operates the chip, while Charlotte sits below with Whelan on the bedroom. Charlotte says, Whelan, do youse remember I desired to tell you something? She nods. She is taking off her shoes and is at the top. Whelan has removed his boots, cape, and top, with his bare chest revealed. She says, When I met youse, I thought you were so mysterious, yet beautiful. Something about your eyes was ridiculous. If all the darkness imaginable could not feel all the sadness in your heart, like someone took so much away from you, it left you cold, distorted. I craved, I lusted to be that thing that concealed what I understood in order to do. I would have to be open than ever I had been in my life, Mom. I always knew strong had to be for everybody going back to Helen, when she was no more than a youth. I had to raise her, even though myself no more than a child also. Had to trust the powers to teach us. Stay away while at the same time protecting her. But then I met you. I knew for sure I never really was strong, because when with you, I understood I had something to lean on, regardless of the matter. She kisses him on the cheek. Then she continued. Deeper, though, I grew to understand. I need you in my life, no matter what no one say. And she moves over to lay across him, looking up to him, as she continues. I know as a warrior born, you may not have no desire for it, but I desire to grow old with you, have children, something I never knew I would. What I mean is, I love you. He places her face tightly into his chest. Whelan pulls her face from his chest, revealing she is nearly about to cry. She says, please say something. I'm scared. I really didn't want to come so bare. As she looks up to him, he holds the back of her head and chin. He pulls her close and kisses her. After kissing for a little, he pulls away. Whelan says, I once told, I never found a place in all my search of the world, but I did experience something I could sit at ease. As she slowly opens her eyes, he begins to breathe heavily. He pulls her close and kisses her again. Then he pulls her back and whispers, we're partial to that peace. She embraces him, smiling with her eyes closed. She whispers, please stay with me tonight. Whelan whispers, yes, I will.
