Insomniac Games, known for games like Ratchet & Clank, developed the popular Insomniac Marvel Universe, starting with Marvel's Spider-Man in 2015. They released a demo and the full game in 2018, which sold over 9 million copies. They followed up with Spider-Man Miles Morales and surprised fans with teasers for Spider-Man 2 and Marvel's Wolverine. However, they were hacked in 2023, with the hackers demanding a ransom and releasing game leaks and personal info. The hackers eventually stopped, and Insomniac released new suits for Spider-Man 2. Fans speculate that a new game is in development. What's up, listeners? It's Ethan, your host in today's episode of SpiderTalk. In this episode, I'll be talking about the Insomniac Marvel Universe. You've probably heard of it due to its popularity, but let me talk about how it all began. First, let me talk about Insomniac Games. They're game developers like Naughty Dog, Bethesda, Mojang, and Rockstar. They're known for games like Ratchet & Clank, Spyro the Dragon, and lastly, Resistance. Now, to the beginning of the universe. It all started in January of 2015. Insomniac has just made the crew test for Marvel's Spider-Man. It wasn't much, though, but it's decent. A few months later, Insomniac is already developing their early tests and prototypes. It included the combat and traversal systems. During June of 2016, Insomniac attended the Sony E3. If you don't know what an E3 is, it's like a convention about Sony items, games, and more. So during E3, Sony was able to show the first trailer of Marvel's Spider-Man. It was flawless. It was perfect for the PS4 players during that time. It was only four months until the game was fully playable, but it still needed some work. Eventually, the first alpha of the game was released. Players who tried it were amazed. After that, Insomniac got quiet. It was only until late 2017 for them to release a demo. It was really fun, a lot of people said. It only took months until the full game was released. A lot of people called it Game of the Year Potential. It sold over 9 million copies in two months. During the release of the PS5, a few people were able to get it. Since a lot of people sold their PS4s to get a PS5, Insomniac released a new trailer for a game called Spider-Man Miles Morales. It's a prequel to the first one. Everyone who got Spider-Man Miles Morales would get a remastered copy of Marvel's Spider-Man. After the hype cooled down, a lot of fans wanted Spider-Man 2 to happen. To everyone's surprise, Insomniac released a teaser trailer for the game. They also released a trailer for a game that no one expected, Marvel's Wolverine. The hype was really crazy. A lot of people streamed their reaction to it and they freaked out. After that, they got quiet once again. It took them a year for the story trailer. After two years of the first teaser, they finally released Spider-Man 2. They sold 2.5 million copies in a day. Surprising, right? Not really. Many people actually expected for the game to have a lot of downloads or purchases during day 1. The downside is, everyone spoiled the whole game. This saddens players who haven't played it yet. Now here's their current situation. I'm not sure if you've heard of it, but they got hacked in December of 2023. Two months after the release of Spider-Man 2. Sad, right? The hackers got 1 terabyte worth of data, including upcoming games, personal data of the workers, and gameplay of Marvel's Wolverine. The hackers demanded Insomniac to pay 2 million dollars worth of Bitcoin to the hackers and they only had one week. Right now, people can download one ape of Marvel's Wolverine. But, I don't think you really should because that's considered a crime. The hackers released everything they had. Game leaks, personal info, and more. Eventually, the hackers have stopped their deeds. Insomniac was relieved and happy. They released new suites for Spider-Man 2. Right now, they haven't released anything yet, but many fans speculate that they're already developing a new game. Once again, my name is Ethan Contreras.
