Taylor Swift is a hugely successful singer-songwriter who has faced criticism for trying too hard. This criticism reflects society's expectation that women should be small and inferior. As Taylor's success grew, so did the ridicule. Why do we want to limit her success? She has opened doors for women in the music industry and empowered them in real life. She creates a sense of unity with her relatable lyrics. Taylor Swift is a talented songwriter of her generation. Hi, my name is Faith, and today we are going to be discussing Taylor Swift's contribution to society and feminism. If you don't already know, Taylor Swift is a well-known singer-songwriter phenomenon, with over 26 billion streams across 11 studio albums. She is Spotify's claimed most streamed artist of all time. You may know her from her plethora of number one hits such as Love Story or Shake It Off, but she is so much more than that. Adam Xii on Twitter writes, Yes, I understand she is a multi-platinum generational songwriter, but she always comes off as a try-hard and it's so uncomfortable. While these claims may be brushed off as an opinion, there is an underlying factor. Patriarchally, women are supposed to be small and less superior. We are supposed to fit perfectly into a box created by society. When Taylor was a smaller artist, she was accepted easier by many. Once she began to take on even greater success and grow in her career, she became even more ridiculed. Why is it that we want to cut her down after she's gained so much success? Why do we want to control how successful she can become? Why do we want to control how much she can grow? Would you like her to try less hard at being successful? What kind of question is that? Hey, we liked you back when nobody knew you, can you try to win less awards? No. More so, would you ask Bruton Warstrike or any other popular male artist that question? She's opened so many doors for women in the music industry and empowered women to take back their power in real life too. While she is beloved by many, she is ridiculed by much. She has created a community for young men and especially women growing up and going to the same monumental moments that she writes about. She carefully articulates and makes others feel seamless in her writing. She takes the thoughts out of our minds and creates a melody that unifies people beyond an extent. She is a songwriter of her generation, and she is talesome. Thanks for listening, hope you enjoyed.
