Brit Chadasha Portion for 08/05/2023

Jesus washes the disciples' feet and explains that they should do the same for each other. He emphasizes that a servant is not greater than their master and that those who follow his teachings will be blessed. Jesus also mentions that one of the disciples will betray him but assures them that those who receive him and his messengers will receive God. John, chapter 13, verses 12 through 20. So when he had washed their feet, and taken his garments, and sat down again, he said to them, Do you know what I have done to you? You call me teacher and master, and you say well, for I am. Then if I, master and teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another's feet. For I gave you an example that you should do as I have done to you. Truly, truly, I say to you, a servant is not greater than his master, nor is an emissary greater than he who sent him. If you know these teachings, blessed are you if you do them. I do not speak concerning all of you. I know whom I have chosen, but that the scripture might be filled, He who eats bread with me has lifted up his heel against me. Now I say to you, before it takes place, that when it does take place, you shall believe that I am. Truly, truly, I say to you, he who receives whomever I send, receives me. And he who receives me, receives him who sent me.
