This episode 13 on A Step of Faith is titled, Try Another Method Part 2. My name is Greg Alabi and I am inviting you to come let us study the Bible together. In my culture where I come from, there is a saying that it is not just one entrance that leads to the marketplace, rather, there are multiple entrances to the same marketplace. Same goes to when you are driving using your GPS navigator. If you miss your turning or if a familiar road entrance is blocked, your GPS will recalculate and reroute you to take a different route to your destination. In the same vein, we ought to be willing and open to consider other options. Dear friends, no matter how experienced, knowledgeable or educated we may be, if we are willing to learn from and involve other smart people, we will be surprised at the great ideas and suggestions that they will offer us, ideas we never ever thought about. It is very difficult to assist people who are set in their own ways. Just because their ways are tried, tested and proven to work does not mean the manifold wisdom of God cannot give us other ideas that would equally work as well if not better, maybe easier, faster or require lesser time and energy. My point, when faced with challenges or seen in possibilities as we take the step of faith, we should be open and willing to try other methods. In the previous episode, we learned from Luke 5 from verse 18 to 19 how some gentlemen brought their friend who was paralyzed, his hands and feet lame. They brought him to Jesus. Unfortunately, the house where Jesus was was crowded. There was no way they could get inside the house. Luke 5 verse 19, instead of getting discouraged, going back or explaining to their friend that they tried the best they could or waiting forever until everybody leaves before they could get to see Jesus for Jesus to pray for them or pray for their friend, they rather climbed up to the rooftop of the building, cut it open and lowered their paralyzed friend to Jesus. The lesson? We must pray to know the difference between patience and wasting time. If we do not, we would assume we need to wait forever and never take that step of faith. Now let us learn some valuable lessons from these four gentlemen who brought their paralyzed friend to Jesus. They wanted Jesus to pray for him to be healed. First lesson here is in Luke chapter 5 verse 19. Seeing the crowd at the entrance of the house, they decided to climb to the rooftop. The lesson? Hear this. If you want to take the step of faith and you see obstacles, try another method. Second lesson, they climbed the rooftop. The lesson here? When discouraged, go higher. Never settle for anything lower. Go to the rooftop. Go higher. Third lesson, they did not wait until the people at the entrance give them the room or the permission or a way to get in to see Jesus. The lesson? Your progress does not depend on other people navigating for you. Take the bull by the horn. Find your way yourself. Fourth lesson, they carried their paralyzed friend to the top of the roof of the house. The lesson? To take a step of faith, we must be willing to carry our load ourselves. Galatians chapter 6 verse 4 to 5 says, Let every man prove his own work. Let every man bear his own burden. Demonstrate your willingness to help yourself. Fifth lesson, there were four friends in total who carried their paralyzed friend. The lesson? Find people of like mind to help resolve a common problem. Sixth lesson here, they cut open the rooftop. The lesson? If there is no way, create one yourself. My point? Let's be innovative, be creative, do something nobody has ever done before. Seventh lesson, they used ropes and a bed to lower their friend to Jesus for prayers. The lesson? Go and look for the right tools to get the job done. Don't just sit down there praying for Jesus to come to you. Get the tools. Go and look for them wherever they are and use the right tools to get the job done. The right tools make the job easier and faster. My point? Whatever you desire, whatever you want in life, be creative and be willing to try other methods. Go higher to the rooftop to gain entrance. Let us pray. Father, thank you for the lessons we have learned. Give us the wisdom to try other methods in Jesus name. Amen.
