My name is Greg Alabi and I am inviting you to come let us study the Bible together. When we want to take a step of faith to accomplish something significant that could move our lives forward, one of the things that we surely do not want to happen if something critical or an emergency arises, anything that could require we abandon everything to attend to it is not good. If not properly managed, our projects can suffer setback or outrightly abandoned. For example, I know two ladies who lived in two different towns. Both of them became pregnant expecting their new born babies, coincidentally that was about the same time they wanted to resume at school to start a new academic journey. One of them proceeded to school pregnant while the other dropped out of school because she was pregnant. Down the road, the baby was born about the time of her examination in school. Friends, family, and the church community supported her during that period. She had her baby and passed her exam and went on to finish her program. My point, when we say no, impossible, not possible, everything shuts down. But if we say yes to an idea, despite the challenges, help will come. And if help does not come from expected sources, unexpected sources will open up for us. Although, I do not intend to undermine or minimize anybody's reality. My point is that, if you say yes to an idea, it becomes possible, it becomes doable. And if life happens, if the unexpected happens, if the unforeseen, the inevitable, if any emergencies come up, if something critically important arise, when you want to take that step of faith, if we still desire it and intend to move on and move forward to achieve our goals, there are ways around it. A songwriter says, God will make a way where there seems to be no way. He walks in ways we cannot see. Now let us learn some valuable lessons from our Lord Jesus himself. He was in the middle of fulfilling his purpose when the family emergency came up. How Jesus managed it perhaps will teach us some valuable lessons. Matthew chapter 12 from verse 46 to 50 and chapter 13 from verse 1 to 3. While Jesus was busy teaching and preaching, the scripture says his mother and biological family came over, stood around, wanting to speak with him. Jesus said to the people present with him there that they were family and that he went on to focus on the people present with him. And any other person willing to obey God was also family. Next chapter, chapter 13 from verse 1 to 3, it says that same day Jesus left the house and a great crowd of people were outside at the seaside by the beach waiting to receive and hear Jesus preach to them. Now let us learn some valuable lessons from this text. First lesson, we must never lose sight of our purpose. Focus on what you are doing, no matter what. Second lesson, destruction may arise from people, places and things that we are strongly and sentimentally attached to. Third lesson, mommy and family is not easy to ignore, especially when we think about the mother-son relationship. My advice, prioritize when critical necessities arise. Fourth lesson here, later in life, Jesus was crucified, he died, then he rose again and went on to heaven, leaving his mother and biological family behind. The lesson, if you are not there, they will survive and continue their lives. Fifth lesson here, chapter 13 verse 1 to 3, that same day, that same day, a great multitude of people were outside waiting to hear Jesus speak to them. The lesson, if you allow yourself to be distracted, you may likely miss bigger opportunities that are ahead of you. Now understand that I am not undermining your reality but prioritize. You can attend to it briefly, attend to the most important and focus on what you are doing then go back much later to complete it. There is always a way around it. Let us not think that our distractions are powerful enough to stop us from proceeding. It should not happen. Let us pray. Father, we thank you for the lessons we are learning. Father, give us the wisdom to know how to juggle things, to manage things, to prioritize things, to attend to what is most important and to bring glory to you. In Jesus' name, Amen.
