Where the Streets Have No Name My U2 beginnings began due to a rebellious act I took at the age of 12. My eldest brother was gone on a church mission to the Netherlands, and all his stuff was readily available for a curious 12-year-old to rummage through. Though I am not proud of my actions, I do not regret coming across that cassette that was named Joshua Tree. It was calling to me like the Golden Idol was calling Indiana Jones in the film Raiders of the Lost Ark. I was overcome with the urge to take it and listen to it. Regardless of the massive consequences for my eldest brother, I commandeered his U2 tapes that wasn't going to give him back without a brotherly beating. I put in the first cassette, and the operatic beginning of Where the Streets Have No Name converted me instantly to the depths of my very soul of a sound I've never heard before, which changed my musical endeavors forever. When I saw the documentary rattle and hum, the portion of where U2 played Where the Streets Have No Name transformed the screen from black and white to a burst of color. It brought back the same feeling I initially felt at the beginning notes of my eldest brother's cassette. I had a school assignment at Redmond High School to give a description presentation of something I am passionate about. Instead, I gave a 20-minute description of rattle and hums Where the Streets Have No Name, and my teacher didn't even stop, nor did my classmates, for doubling the time allotted to present.
