Liz Murray had a difficult childhood, with parents struggling with addiction and financial issues. She became homeless at 15 and lost her mother to HIV at 16. Despite these challenges, Liz excelled academically and earned a scholarship to Harvard. She later transferred to Columbia to take care of her father. Liz used her experiences to help others, starting a scholarship fund and co-founding a foundation to assist struggling families. She believes that everyone deserves a chance and wants to guide others through their darkest times. The rise of Liz Murray. Liz Murray did not have an easy beginning to life. She was born to parents with addiction problems who could not pay the bills or keep food on the table. She went hungry often and was in constant distress, thinking they would lose their living situation. Liz became homeless at the age of 15. Her parents lost custody of her. She went into foster care and ended up on the streets. At the age of 16, she lost her mother to HIV. While she was homeless, she joined a program that would give her a high school diploma. Liz excelled in her academics, gaining the title of top of her class. Graduating in only two years, she was able to manage getting her education all while having nowhere to go at night. Liz ended up getting a scholarship for college and started going to Harvard, then transferred to Columbia to take care of her father. Liz took her situation and strived to make life easier for other needy families. She started her own scholarship fund to help the less fortunate get into college and make a better life for themselves. She is also co-founder of the Author Project, which is a foundation that helps struggling families. I chose Liz as my mentor because she started from nothing, made something of herself, and decided to use her name to help others. Many people who rise above others tend to forget that everyone needs a chance or a hand to guide them through their darkest times. Liz showed us that there are still amazing people and everyone has a chance to become something.
