Akershaw Stadium, located by the Ohio River, is home to the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Pitt Panthers. The Steelers, founded in 1933, have won six Super Bowl titles and are part of the AFC North Division. The Pitt Panthers, founded in 1889, have won nine National Football Championships. The Steelers' colors are black and yellow, while the Panthers' colors are blue and gold. Welcome to a tour of the magnificent arena right off of the Ohio River, Akershaw Stadium, home of the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Pitt Panthers. Knowing some people on this tour do not know much about either teams, I will preface this tour with a few fun facts about each. To give some background information on the Pittsburgh Steelers, the Steelers were founded in 1933 by Arthur J. Rooney. The team's ownership has been kept within the same family that entire time. The Steelers have won six Super Bowl titles since the AFL-NFL merger in 1966, that being tied for the most alongside the New England Patriots. The Steelers are a part of the AFC North Division and currently, for the 2023-2024 NFL season, have a record of seven wins and five losses. As you can probably guess, the Steelers' main color scheme is black and yellow. For the Pitt Panthers, they were founded in 1889, before the school was even renamed to the University of Pittsburgh from the Western University of Pennsylvania. The Pitt Panthers began playing at Akershaw Stadium, formerly known as Heinz Field, in the year of 2001. The Pitt Panthers have won nine National Football Championships since being founded, none at Akershaw, the sixth most all-time among other schools. The Panthers' colors differ from most other sports teams in the area, as instead of black and yellow, they chose blue and gold.
