In this information, Jessica Klein discusses the views on poverty, particularly focusing on the perspectives of teachers and student teachers. She emphasizes that poverty is dynamic and multi-dimensional, with various factors influencing it. The definition of poverty can also change over time due to the evolving economy. Teachers often have deficit views about students in poverty, believing them to be disadvantaged in terms of education. While some students may lack necessary resources, such as internet access or a computer, not all students in poverty are automatically at a disadvantage. This highlights the stereotype associated with poverty. Hello my name is Jessica Klein and I will be going over our portion of the poverty talking about our views on poverty. While I was doing my research for our views on poverty I mainly focused on the teacher views on poverty and the student teacher views on poverty because they are going to be our future teachers and their views are very important because that sets the tone of their professional development and how they will perceive students that are stricken by poverty. And for the beginning I wanted to mainly focus on describing how we view poverty now. Typically most of the views on poverty are pretty negative so we'll get into that in just a few minutes. Overall poverty is dynamic and multi-dimensional and when I say multi-dimensional I mean there are lots and lots of different factors that factor in to poverty. Poverty can be changed over time and what is considered to be poverty can change over time as well and the reasons for this is because our economy is ever evolving and ever-changing and so is what we determine to be considered poverty. Most people when they're discussing poverty they look at the economic sources such as your income and stuff like that whenever they're discussing poverty. So over time things can change the way we view on it and what we consider to be poverty like a certain dollar figure that number could change over time. Poverty is detrimental to a child's education and teachers hold deficit views about learner diversity, society, and associated roles of schools. Teachers believe children in poverty to be disadvantaged to their education which in some cases yes that is very true but not in all cases. Some cases these students are lacking the essential necessities that they need such as like internet to do their research or a computer at home to type up their papers stuff like that so that will put them at a disadvantage but that doesn't mean all students that are living in poverty are going to be disadvantaged in that sense. This is part of the stereotype I was discussing earlier not all students that are in poverty will be considered disadvantaged.
