The teacher asks the class to review the different elements of a story. They read a story about Thomas and Friends and ask the students to identify the characters, events, and settings. The students are instructed to circle their answers on a paper. The teacher reminds them to pay attention to the questions and asks them to hand in their papers when finished. The teacher also encourages students to ask questions if needed. Hey class, I've had a great time discussing the different elements of a story with you. I hope you've had a great time as well. Let's take some time to review what we've learned. I'm going to read you a story and I want you to point out all of the different elements that you hear. You'll do this by circling the answer that you believe to be true on the paper that I just handed out. Pay close attention to the questions that I ask throughout this story. I'm going to be reading On the Track with Thomas and Friends. Good morning, Percy. I am on my way. I have so much to do today. First to the station, a route I well know, to pick up Annie and Clarabel. Are Annie and Clarabel the character, an event, or the setting? Please circle the one that you think is right. We travel to Elfbridge and end this run. Then off to the quarry, no time yet for fun. Is Elfbridge the character, the event, or the setting? Please circle the answer that you believe to be true. Toby and Marvis need help on the double. The troublesome trucks give us a lot of trouble. At last I am home and glad for the rest. This really useful engine sure did his best. My errands are done, my workday is through. Now back to my shed and a good washing too. Then down the harbor to drop off the load. On the way I pass Bertie, stopped on the road. Now up to the mountains I pick up some freight. I cross the high bridge, I cannot be late. What is the event in this story? Was it the little Thomas the Train working hard to run his errands on time?
