The serpent deceived the woman into eating the fruit from the forbidden tree, claiming that it wouldn't cause death but instead give knowledge. The woman then gave the fruit to her husband, who also ate it. They realized they were naked and hid from God. When confronted, Adam blamed the woman and the woman blamed the serpent. God cursed the serpent, the woman, and the man. The man named his wife Eve, and God made clothes for them. They were expelled from the garden and cherubim were placed to guard the entrance. Now the serpent was more subtle, intelligent, crafty, cunning, subtle, and skilled in deceit than any beast of the field which the Lord God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God say, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden? And the woman said unto the serpent, We may eat of the fruit of the tree of the garden, but of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst, or in the middle, of the garden. God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die. And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not truly die, for God does know that in the day ye eat thereof, your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be like as gods, knowing good and evil. And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took up the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband, who was hurt, and he did eat. And the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked, and they sewed big leaves together, and made themselves safer. And they heard the voice of the Lord God walking in the garden, in the pool of the day. And Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God among the trees of the garden. And the Lord God called unto Adam, and said to him, Where art thou? And he said, I heard that voice in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked, and I hid myself. And he said, Who told you that thou was naked? Hast thou eaten of the tree, whereof I commanded thee that thou shouldst not eat? And the man said, The woman whom you gave us to be with me, the woman you gave me, basically, she gave me of the tree, and I did eat. In other words, she gave me some fruit from the tree, and I ate. And the Lord God said unto the woman, What is this that thou hast done? In other words, what have you done? And the woman said, The serpent beguiled me, and I did eat. And in the New International Version, it's basically saying that the serpent deceived me, and I ate. And the Lord God said unto the serpent, Because you have done this, cursed are you above all life-forms and all wild animals. You will crawl on your belly, and you will eat dust all the day of your life. Now is the enmity, ultimate hostility, between you and the woman, and between your seed, offspring, and her seed. And he shall say, You bruised your head, and you shall only bruise his head. Side note, many consider this verse the first announcement of the gospel. This is the first prophecy about the Messiah Christ, who through his death on the cross and resurrection, will ultimately defeat Satan. The power behind the serpent will make them blow. To the woman he said, I will greatly multiply your pain and childbirth. In pain, you will give birth to children. Yet your desire and longing will be for your husband, and he will rule with authority over you, and be responsible for you. Then to Adam the Lord God said, Because you have listened attentively to the voice of your wife, and have eaten fruit from the tree about which I commanded you, saying, You shall not eat of it, the ground is now under a curse because of you. In sorrow and toil you shall eat the fruit of it all the days of your life. Both thorns and thristles it shall grow for you, and you shall eat the plants of the field. By the sweat of your face you will eat bread until you return to the ground, for from it you were taken. For you are dust, and to dust you shall return. The man named his wife Eve, meaning life, spring, life giver, because she was the mother of all the living. The Lord God made tunics of animal skin, coats for Adam and his wife, and clothed them. And the Lord God said, Behold, the man has become like one of us, to know good and evil, knowing how to distinguish between good and evil. Now so he doesn't stretch out his hand and take also from the tree of life, and eat and live forever. Therefore the Lord God sent Adam away from the garden of Eden to till and cultivate the ground from which he was taken. So God drove the man out at the east of the garden of Eden. He permanently stationed the cherubim and the sword with the flashing blade, flaming sword, which turned round and round in every direction to protect and guard the way entrance access to the tree of life. And then side note, cherubim are ministering angelic beings who avenge assault on God's court.
