Naomi Hurst, the District Prevention Manager at West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service spoke out on the importance of smoke detectors and why some people may not have functioning ones. Plans to transform the derelict Old Red Lion pub into a McDonald's have caused a stir among locals. The 262-year-old pub, located in the east of Leeds, has become a hotspot for crime since its closure in 2021. A public consultation on the plans will run until 14th October. Ellie Lapinska has lived behind the now-derelict pub for almost six years. She says she wouldn't have moved it to have built a McDonald's behind it. Community centres are supporting people all over Leeds who have nowhere else to turn, but rising costs and low funding is making their great work hard to complete. Abdul Hanan runs the Cardigan Road Community Centre and spoke about how more needs to come from local authorities to support the work being done.
