The Cousins is a book about Millie, Jonah, and Aubrey, who receive a letter from their estranged grandmother inviting them to work at her hotel on a Gulf Coast Island. They discover that their grandmother is wealthy and owns the entire island. Initially reluctant, they eventually connect with their family and find unexpected relationships. The ending is surprising. Hi, so today we're going to be talking about the book called The Cousins by Karen M. McConis. The book is called The Cousins. It is an epic tale basically talking about how the family, the Millage story, the last names of the story, so there's Aubrey, Millie, and Jonah. Millie and Jonah and Aubrey all live with their parents. Millie does swim. Aubrey is more of a photographer. She likes to do more photography. Jonah, on the other hand, he likes to do more of the science-y. He wants to go to a science college. But before school ends, they get a strange letter from Mildred's story. What it is, is her asking them to come to the Gulf Coast Island. It's where her hotel is, and she wants more workers. Because she wants more workers, she doesn't want to hire anybody, but she wants the cousins to come. So with her coming, Millie does not want to go because she does swim, and she has a boyfriend. But then her parents start acting weird. What her parents start doing is her dad was at the house, and she was expecting it to be her mom because her mom is always home. But because the mom was at home, she asked the dad why she was at home. He said that she was out doing something else. She did not believe that one bit, so she just played along and went, okay. But something that you don't figure out until the middle of the book is that the grandmother, Mildred, did not talk to the parents after they've grown up. So when the parents find out that they've gotten the letter, they are furious because they want to know why they couldn't talk to the parents about it. Well, they get there, and this is 24 years later. So this was a while ago. They are very wealthy, they find out. Their grandma, when they get to the hotel, find out that they are crazy rich. Like there was so much money that she can buy an entire hotel and probably more. She owns the entire island, and they did not know that their grandma was even a person because of all of the things that the parents didn't tell them. So, after they find out that her grandma did not talk to them, they were mad. They did not want to go because they didn't want to waste their summer working, and they wanted to go out and do their own things. So, they were very mad, and their parents forced them to go because they wanted them to know their grandmother more. So when they got there, they went on a cruise, and they went to the island. After that, their grandmother came, and she did not recognize them until they told her their last name. Because she hadn't seen their family, that's why she didn't know. So when she finally figured it all out, she was very happy that they had finally came. They were not because they did not want to work. So, the end of this story is something that nobody would really expect. I was not expecting it at all. So when I finally read the end of the book, it was pretty, pretty crazy. And I will tell you, they, Millie starts to connect with her mother, and Aubrey finds the father figure, and her uncle.
