The speaker is recommending a book called "Ego is the Enemy" and talks about how there isn't just one moment that can change a person's life. They emphasize the importance of not letting hardships define who you are and not getting too comfortable during good times. They also discuss the need to learn from failures and challenges and to be adaptable in life. The speaker shares personal examples of moments that have shaped their life and encourages listeners to not fixate on one thing but to understand that it's a combination of actions and choices that lead to growth. They advise not letting any one moment define or change you and to evaluate whether changes are positive or negative. What is happening team so welcome to another episode of the extra mile podcast and I've just started recently reading a new book One that's been on my list for a while right and it's an ego is the enemy if you've not read it I would highly recommend reading it man like I'm only like about 10 pages into it and I am already fucking hooked to it man Some of you might already have read it right but basically What I took away from it so far right and I'm gonna have a lot of stuff that I will be sharing with you over the course of the next couple of weeks I know I'm not gonna get into a new book right but There was something that really stood out for me and I think a lot of us can really relate to right and it's like there's no one Moment that changes a person. There are many and what it basically means is everyone kind of looks for this one pivotal moment That's a person that's gonna just change the game for you, but ultimately it's not that it's not the case Do you know what I mean? Like yeah there might be big moments right But there's not just that one thing that completely changes the game for you Yeah, it might be the one that's the catalyst it might be the one that starts the domino effect right But there's always more than one moment right so see what I'm getting at with this guys is and what I took away from that is You might go through a bit of hardship right but that does not define who you are Okay, and basically again you might go through like a very very good phase right but that does not mean you get too comfortable Do you know what I mean? Because that's not what's gonna be the be all end all Life is forever growing and it's always changing you're always adapting and you need to be adaptable with it Do you know what I mean? And like again, you're gonna always come up against like Different parts of adversity, different challenges, different tasks that will be right in front of you And like there needs to be like an element where you go right I'm gonna miss I'm gonna tackle this head-on man It's been smart about it as well guys So it's like it kind of ties in again with what we were talking about last night as well, like obviously It's not what do you need to do, it's who you need to be. Okay, and like a lot of people will Look at different moments in their life and go that was the one moment that changed But it's not really it's like how many times did you fail at something and then go back up again? That's the defining moment. Do you know what I mean? Like you might fail 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 times at something But because you're willing to get back up again and strive and push through man, you're technically not failed Do you know what I mean? You've only learned and then you're gonna get stronger and then these are the compounding effects that'll grow and grow And then ultimately get you to where you want to be So guys like I want you to always think of it like nothing defines you unless you let it define you, right? But any of the big moments, any of the stuff that you're going through at present day, anything that you have been through that you really hold on to, that you grip on to man Just learn that it's not the be-all and end-all of who you are Do you know what I mean? And it doesn't define what trajectory you're gonna be going in and the way I'm looking at it guys is like These pivotal moments, these big occasions in life There's gonna be a lot of them, right? But as long as you're willing to learn from it and grow from it then you will push through and I think that's where a lot of people Tend to go wrong. It's like something will happen to them and you go, all right, fucking hell, that was good Or that was bad and then you move on from it. Do you know what I mean? Am I going like, what was the truth in it? Why did it happen? Where did it come from and that kind of stuff? And what did you learn from it? Ultimately, and then if that situation arises again, good or bad You're more equipped for it. You're in a better headspace for it because you've already been through it, do you know what I mean? Because again, it's gonna come back again, stuff like that's gonna happen, whatever it may be, do you know what I mean? Unless it's like winning the lottery, right? You might only fucking do that once, do you know what I mean, man? But, so you get what I'm saying with this guys, like you really need to think about these situations and go, right How do we learn from them? Do you know what I mean? And again, like why don't you keep on touching it here, like That one moment that you always get taken back to, that you're maybe not proud of Fuck it. It is what it is. We move on from it, man, it's cool Like there's gonna be stuff that you're not proud of in your life that's going to happen, man But again, it's not what makes the person, it's not what changes the person Do you know what I mean? It's just a stage in your life and we all talk about like chapters, okay? Like yous are all in this chapter at the moment. At one point, you won't be in this chapter You'll be in a different chapter, which is good because that's what growth's about But again, life will throw shit at you at that point There'll be moments that you think are going to change you, but it's not that specific moment It's the build-up of that moment. You're just in a different chapter of life Okay, guys, so I want you to kind of sit and think about that one for the rest of the day, man It's something that really, really, it did resonate with me, man Because I would always kind of, especially when I look back at where I am I would always sit and go, right, what was the moment that everything changed? And I always used to think it was this one specific moment, right? And it was quite a morbid moment, right? But it wasn't There was so many different stuff that was piling on to it, man The moment that I signed up to become a PT because I was anxious and didn't know why to say no to the guy Do you know what I mean? The moment that I left school early The moment that I quit my job in fucking TFS The moment that I quit my job in the printers When COVID kicked in, when I stopped playing football, when I stopped taking drugs When I stopped drinking as much, when I stopped smoking, all this kind of stuff, man All kind of came in, and that was all the moments that really added to this There'll be this one moment that's got me to where I am, and you guys will be the exact same Do you know what I mean? There's so many decisions So many different changing elements that's happened that you've made to get you to this point And it's going to keep on happening, man So basically, guys, I don't want you to get too fixated on one thing, okay? Not one thing's got you to where you are It's a compounding effect of how much you show up, okay? So, like, that's why we get at it, like, it's not enough to do it one day I mean, you need to do it for a hundred days and so on and so on Okay, guys, so really lock it in with that one, guys And don't let any one moment define you Don't let any one moment change you And if you do feel as if you're changing in some way, shape or form And look into the truth in it and go, right, this is a good change or this is a bad change, guys
