The podcast hosts discuss their recent reading of the book "Watch Us Rise" which touches on various topics including women's rights, cancer, grief, and the challenges faced by plus-size women in society. They express surprise at the separation of clothing sizes and the difficulties faced by those who don't fit into traditional sizes. The hosts and their special guest, Avery Banks, share personal experiences related to clothing sizing and the issues it presents. They conclude that the system needs to be changed and encourage listeners to read the book. Hello, y'all. Thanks for tuning in to our podcast. We're gonna spill the tea. So, we... Okay, wait. Now, let me introduce myself. My name is Caroline Anderson and I'm here with my besties. I'm Brittany Goss. I'm Christina Subia. Yeah, and we have a special guest star coming later on, but y'all don't get to know who it is yet. Sorry. And, well, so here's the thing. We just read this book called Watch Us Rise and it was... Yeah. It was a good one. It was pretty... It was a little controversial, a little tiny bit, but it talked about a bunch of like really hard topics like women's rights and like cancer and processing grief, but something that just stood out to us was how, like what it talked about, about like plus size clothing and its topics on like plus size women or just like not even just plus size women, but women who don't fit into those traditional junior men's sizes and how, like, they have problems in our society. And Brittany had a really good point about what... Well, so this is really just something that I've never even thought about until I read the book was that the sizing, like the clothing sizes were separated. And I really just, I do not understand why, why they separate it. It really makes no sense to me. And really the book just brought that to life. So, I don't know. It was just, it brought on a new perspective and it's something that I've never really thought about before until I read the book. Yeah. So, yeah. Christina, do you have any? Yeah. Just to like comment on that personally, I have always experienced like the difference in clothing being in certain stores or whatever or in certain racks compared to my friends when I would go out and shop because I've always been like taller and like have broader shoulders. And so, I've always noticed that my, my clothes have not been on the same rack as all of my friends when I go out to... Like trying to shop at the same park as them. Yeah. And having to feel weird. Yeah. Avery kind of had a little... Oh, our special guest is our friend Avery Banks and she kind of had an experience kind of like that if she'd like to share. Hello, y'all. I'm Avery Banks. I just wanted to get on here and talk about just my experience with the clothing industry. So, I used to be very small. I used to be like extra, extra small. And I found that most stores in my age-appropriate sections of clothing, like I'm 15 years old. I want to be trendy. I want to be all that. But they didn't have my sizes because I was so small. So, that was my issue. Yeah. It's very, it's very interesting that we get to hear like both sides of it with y'all. But like I kind of had a problem. I don't want to like compare myself to y'all. But like I was, we're going to say very developed at a very young age. So, shopping for bathing suits as a 13-year-old and then being like age-appropriate was almost impossible. I wore a t-shirt to swim in for like from the time I was like 12 to literally until I was 18 years old and could buy my own bathing suits and stuff. Yeah. But it's just crazy, you know. That's the world we live in. Not saying it's good. Right. It's nutty to be sure. Yeah. Just something you never really thought of before. And like why do they do it? Yeah. I think it's something that needs to be changed for sure. Yeah. Exactly. But, yeah. That's just something that just opened our eyes up when reading this book on top of a lot of other things. So, thank y'all so very much for joining in today. We appreciate it so very much. If y'all like to read, maybe give that book a shot. If you don't like to read, that's fine too. Just, I hope you have a great day. I hope everyone has a wonderful day. And thank y'all so much for coming.
