Lena Shake wrote a Shakespeare classic with a modern twist. In her adaptation, Hamlet uncovers the lies that dirty his family's legacy and fights for justice. Lena developed the characters to be relatable and drew inspiration from the original Shakespearean characters. The language and style she used created a suspenseful atmosphere. Lena faced challenges in modernizing the story, but focused on the characters' motivations and actions. The universal theme she wanted to convey was the fight for justice over corruption. Her adaptation is similar to the original but with a modern setting and a twist on the conflict. Hey everyone, it's Tibba Shake. Welcome back to my podcast, The ShakeDown. I'm here with a special guest, Lena Shake. Hi. Okay. Who recently wrote a Shakespeare classic with a modern twist. Now, Lena, why don't you give us a brief synopsis of your story before we do the interview. Of course, of course. In the aftermath of his father's sudden death, Hamlet is the only one he sees but his uncle, Claudius, is not the grieving man he pretends to be. As the next in line to his father's multi-million dollar company, Hamlet sets to expose the lies that dirty his family's legacy. A charity ball sets the stage for his unmasking, leaving a precedent for transparency and justice in his wake. Great stuff. And how did you develop the characters in your narrative? Were they inspired by real people or entirely fictional? In writing the characters for my adaptation, I drew inspiration from the original Shakespearean characters, Hamlet and Claudius. I wanted to make them more relatable in a modern setting so I aimed to incorporate emotions and motivations that resonate with real life experiences. What role did style or language play in your writing? How did you manage the tone and voice for the narrative? The language and style I used helped to build a suspenseful atmosphere in the story. This was important because I wanted my story's tone to be mysterious to follow as Hamlet uncovers the truth. Were there any other challenges or obstacles that you faced while writing this narrative? How did you overcome them? At first, I struggled to write the classic Hamlet story into a more modern setting without losing the essence of the original. But to work past that, I focused on portraying the characters' motivations and actions from the original just with a new context. What universal theme did you want readers to take away from your narrative? How did you work to convey that universal theme to your audience? The universal theme I wanted to convey was the fight for justice over corruption. I portrayed this theme by Hamlet discovering the wrongdoings of his own family and deciding if he'll still take a stand for his beliefs. How different from or similar to your original selected narrative text was your fan fiction writing? Why did you make that choice? I decided to write an adaptation of the original so I kept important aspects from the original. The main difference between the original and mine is the setting. Mine takes place in modern times. It has a modern twist on the conflict that takes place in the original. And that concludes today's podcast. Thanks for joining me, Lina. Thank you for having me.
