The speaker talks about various topics including client meetings, moving to Tennessee for a job opportunity, studying business, starting a power washing company, the importance of contracts in business partnerships, the challenges of working with friends, and the need to cut ties with certain people to grow. They also discuss their podcast, their work-life balance, and the importance of surrounding oneself with like-minded individuals. The speaker emphasizes the importance of personal growth and making choices that align with one's goals. Oh, yeah All right Another client meeting Gus bus Gonna give a call Second Caleb will be joining him What I knew All right I Don't Oh Please leave your Caleb needs 10 minutes Let's try Gus Hey, what's up, brother? How you doing? Good I just talked to Caleb. He's gonna be a few minutes before he joins us How's your day going It's going good. I've been safe the past week. I've just been laying low, but it's been going good. How about you? Oh man, everything's been going well. I'm actually about to move to Tennessee in the next week Yeah, I got a great job opportunity out there And it gives me the flexibility to still work on my marketing Yeah, so it's a big win-win and also, you know, I've lived here forever so a new Switch-of-pace for a few years wouldn't be a bad idea Yeah Would you come down with for being sick Yeah Yeah Did you have to go to like the doctor and all that fun stuff Okay That is a cheat code At least they didn't classify it as COVID Yeah, I know. My mom's done that before and it's annoying. I mean when I was in school, it was positive I mean, I was fine with it, you know, right? Like now I'm kind of doing that old school thing a little bit take a break, but uh, right What uh, what do you are you uh? What class are you taking online? I'm taking like Just like Caleb Texas, yeah No, I'm taking like So I I just started this semester, but I'm probably gonna go back next semester. But um, I'm right now I'm taking pre-cal, like just pre-cal And like a lot of AP stuff, like AP English And I was doing regular school, I was taking Anatomy, Physiology, and then I was taking like dual credit, like Sociology stuff What are you gonna major in? I want to do something in business So, that's the goal. Just don't do administration Yeah, no, not at all But uh, is that what you did or what? You know, so it's funny enough like the people that I had in my circle I had told them, you know in high school, I was like, you know, we all could go to college but one like All of our parents don't have a ton of money And all that type of stuff so I was just I at that time I was really focused more so on music actually But I also knew I wanted to start my own business because Caleb and I had worked in the lawn care sector for, shoot, probably three years straight together And it was cool, you know, it was mostly his business But we still didn't know much And then eventually, after all these different things just happened, I branched out and started my own power washing company and did that for about a year Until my ex-boss grabbed me for a good four years in sales And I really wanted to master sales just because like in any business you need to know that And once I started figuring that out about two years in, I knew that my future was going to be a business owner I just didn't know what And, you know, we were a small business at the time and they're still kind of small And the thing we were lacking is marketing and the thing is there's a surplus of marketers out there But most of the time they're kind of like more like scams than anything Yeah, they just paint a picture that's just not realistic but it's kind of cool Yeah, I mean they just paint a picture that's just not realistic but they do it in such a tone and different verbiage that it sounds like the best thing since sliced bread So, you know, then I was like, you know what, I really like marketing and then so I started pursuing that Here I am today, still rolling with it I had a past business partner that I was working with and we had got a few clients And he just wasn't, it felt like I was doing everything and there wasn't much that he had to offer Absolutely no cheating Yeah, and so not only did I have to cut that tie with the business but also the friendship as well which ultimately sucked So I think like a big lesson I had to learn is like really you shouldn't necessarily be in business with friends But if you are going to, you really need to make sure that your morals and you're on the same track And you need to have a lot of conversations because at the end of the day money is one of those things that people are really emotional about And especially when a surplus starts to come in it really throws things off So like for me I had to learn the lesson of like, you know, having contracts and NDAs with like people Just as a protective layer for every party because at the end of the day the last thing you want to do is, you know Get so far along in the journey and you're all making money and then someone just, you know, snakes all of you guys Exactly So, you know, learn the lesson, I'm glad I learned it early Yeah, yeah But that's kind of like what I've been dealing with and my nephew who's actually a little bit older than I am My dad had his daughter, my stepsister at the age of 18, my dad's now 62 so she's in her early 40s and I'm only 25 But he's 26 and he moved down to Texas and we're actually moving together to Tennessee He's with me in this marketing business but he kind of does a different side of things Like he's more of the creative aspect, doing a lot of the editing and I'm more of the, you know, face-to-face and logistic side of things So it works well because, you know, we can trust each other with our expertise and we don't have to like fight about certain things And it's worked out really well for the most part For sure It's just one of those things like you know somebody as a friend or a family member but it's a whole different thing you've got to learn from them in business It's just like moving in with somebody, you know Yeah, yeah, totally No, I get that bro, for sure I'm excited about it though, I mean things are moving along I'm also just trying not to take on more than I can chew right now Yeah, yeah So like I'm pretty selective on who I work with but with the people I do work with it's often pretty great to experience Yeah That's the thing about business man, it's like for me, you know, being that type of person that's kind of like a partner and helping businesses grow It's like I don't just want to choose somebody who doesn't align with what I want or, you know, those types of things And that's why I have like so many different types of meetings with people before where, you know, we like sign things Because like just first impressions mean a lot but you can't just go with that off the first time of meeting somebody, you know Right, yeah The proof's in the pudding at the end of the day Yeah, for sure No, I get that When are you going to move to Tennessee? So I'm moving on the 16th over there and I'll have, so I'll have Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays off So for us I'm going to be like mostly trying to put our meetings on Fridays or either like just, you know, later in the afternoons if we need to do another time Yeah Saturdays I record my podcast with my nephew and Sunday's kind of the day to like let's rewind the week, chill and look what we got to do next week So it's going to be non-stop but I'm also that type of person that I don't mind it I've recognized the triggers that make me burn out now so I think now that I know that it's easier to definitely balance Yeah, that's good A lot of people try to tell me you need a work-life balance, I'm like I'm doing exactly what I want to do so who are you to say that? Yeah, yeah, for sure, totally How are, go ahead Not, but I had a, like with this whole like clothing stuff like I started it out with one dude but like I was doing everything And I was like, bro, come on And then eventually like, we don't even really need an LLC now that I think about it Because I was like talking to my uncle and stuff and he has like a lot of businesses, hey, let's do that, you know And like, he was like you really don't need one right now because we're not making like really anything But I just got one because I thought we needed one Right Anyway, so I ended up getting one, right? And got his name, that dude, the other dude's name on it And then right when I got it he didn't want to be a part of it, I was like bro, are you serious right now? And like now I still gotta submit his name from it and like It's a process Yeah, I'm like come on dude, like you're not even needing to like deal with this now It was a douche move by him but like I know what you're saying, like we were both like really good friends And like we still are but like it's kinda It's not the same, right? Yeah, it's definitely not the same because you still, like every time I see him I think about that And it just kind of kicks me off a little bit, it's like Yeah, I get that I try doing the same thing, like keeping that friendship for a little bit But I think one of the most important life lessons I've had to learn this past few years is like As you level up as a person in the direction that you're going It's necessary to cut back those people, as selfish as it may sound They do inhibit you from growing, you know? It's like Yeah, for sure It's like if I were to tell you You've heard that classic saying, the five month people we hang around, I don't know who you are I believe that full heartedly because we're such adaptable creatures, you know? For sure So I had to cut ties with guys that I've been friends with for ten plus years And at the end of the day, my circle went from ten really strong friendships to two And that remains with Caleb and another one of my friends who lives in San Antonio, Matt And both of them pursue the exact things that I pursue in life just a little bit differently, you know? They have relationships, they're both with somebody And, you know, I'm very much single because I just can't take on that extra part right now, you know? Yeah But that doesn't make or break our friendship by any means I just have to recognize like, hey, they're busy with this, which is understandable And we can not see each other for months on end but meet right back up and just be like nothing left at the same time Yeah, yeah, exactly But having Caleb around in your life is, I always say this to other people about him, it's a good thing Yeah, no, Caleb's a great guy, I love him He'll tell you exactly how it is Yeah, yeah, he does, he's good like that He's encouraging too, he's a cool guy Yes, for sure But, no, that's totally good to me because like, I'm still young but, I mean, I know I can see myself maturing for sure And a lot of my friends who I've been friends with throughout my whole lifetime They're slowly starting to like fade or fall off just due to their lack of maturity They're still stuck in like, high school, like, they don't grow up, you know And like think about the future and like think about different things financially What should I do for this or that, you know what I'm saying? I do So are you wrestling with like, what you should do about it or are you kind of just letting it coast? I'm just kind of letting it coast And like, I've talked to Caleb about it a lot And, uh, you know, he's giving me good advice And like, you're saying your stuff and I totally agree with what you say too, you know I mean, cause, that, I just, it's inevitable with like I mean, I'm not gonna be like a dick to them But like, I'm just gonna be like, cool like you're saying But, I'm not really about that anymore I don't know, I'm just, I'm just kind of seeing how it pans out, kind of a thing And the people that you ultimately do want to be around And I think that there's a lot of beauty in it But the world kind of condemns it They're like, you know, being lonely sucks Yeah, it does, but at the same time I would much rather have those two friends That I can talk to about anything, give criticism And not, you know, feel like I have to be a certain way around them Than be around ten people who I just don't even want to talk to most of the time Exactly, for sure I think you're on the right path man, like, you know All three of us are young, at the end of the day And at least you're focused on, like you said, moving forward to your future Yeah, all of us are, which I think is great It is bro, and that's what really I'm, at the end of the day I'm trying to build such a like, I guess the word for it would be like Not a cult, you know, like a group of like-minded individuals like us So we can have one big organization to always be able to look towards, help out And that type of thing, because it's near impossible to do it on your own, unfortunately Yeah, for sure But no, if you get a great group of guys, like-minded dudes, you know I mean, the future is whatever you want it to be really It is, it is Yeah You know, the cool thing is As much as it sucks that the time that it takes for all that to happen The end result, when it happens, is just way better, honestly Yeah Like I said, I'm still in that part of like You know, I'm not making any other friends right now And that's okay with me, because like I said, the people I do have around is enough But I wouldn't lie and say that I don't, you know, yearn for more of those types of people I do want that I would like, ideally, 10 to 15 business owners slash people who are working towards the same thing in a way Yeah Because I think we can shortcut the route to success that way Yeah, yeah, totally I agree Let's see where this guy's at So are you, uh So you're doing quite a few things right now You do have like a normal type of job And you're going to school, and you're trying to run your online business Yeah, so I'm, uh I got school Which, when I was in regular school, it was so hard But online school gave me a little more freedom But I'm doing that And then I go up to Austin or like Fleurville, you know To work with Jesse Taylor's got that for a week Usually it's like a week on, week off type of deal Right And when I'm here at my hometown, Victoria I usually kind of do stuff for my dad As far as like work that he's done Because he has an anesthesia business So, uh I do different like stuff Like as far as like filing different paperwork So I'm trying to learn that And then, you know, like billing stuff, depositing checks You know, different crap like that Or if she needs groceries ordered I do stupid stuff like that for him I got you How long has he been in the anesthesia business for? He is, uh Dude, a long time Like For sure since early 2000s Yeah, or something like that But he, he Yeah, he likes it He likes it So he tries getting into real estate for a little bit So he has his own real estate license Which is kind of cool It is, man I always wanted to do I actually, you know, took the test for it I failed by two points And it was very discouraging And that was when I was 19 Yeah I mean, you should try it again I will I will because this next year With the money that I'll be making at this new job Which is more than I've ever made Even in sales And doing my own company Like, I plan to start investing And not really holding much liquid cash But just like asset wise And so that's another thing Like also why I want like Different friends that are doing that same thing Because we can all, you know, pitch in And, you know, partly own duplexes, triplexes Whatever you want Yeah, I know And I'm very much the logistics guy And I'm very much the guy that will like Be face to face with, you know, the selling aspect of it So that's I think that's one of the things that I always know I'll be able to bring to the table As intimidating as it may sound Once you do it enough And it's kind of like you're It's like second nature, you know It's like anything Yeah Yeah, sure So, to your point, yeah I definitely need to get that license And I will be probably working on that Towards the end of this year Yeah I just need to get settled over in that new area And, you know, with the clients that I do have Get them, you know, continuing towards their goals And once I get to that point Where I feel like everybody's like Happy with what's going on And things are more streamlined Then I'll start focusing on that Yeah Because at the end of the day I just don't want to take on like A client or anything like that If I can't fully commit, you know It's not just sitting behind a computer At the end of the day It's so much more to it That I want to give Yeah, yeah Yeah, I think that's awesome Yeah, I definitely want to try to get The real estate license What about, have you ever tried stocks? I have gotten into stocks a little bit, yeah Hold on, let's get this guy in He's ready Yeah One sec Phone ringing Phone ringing Phone ringing Yo, I'm merging calls Alright Can everybody hear me? Yeah Awesome Um Yeah, him and I are just talking about Real estate stuff right now Just catching up and what not I figured y'all would connect So like I'm just gonna Get some shit done Oh good man, oh good Well, let's jump to What we're here for So, Gus I did get a good amount of time this week To kind of look over your website Just some different things that I do want to recommend to you But um There's a few things that I just want to Kind of know and get out of the way So that we can all be on the same page At the end of the day Yeah So, I know we had talked last time About a few things that you know Like hey, this is what I'm focused on and what not But as far as your online store goes What's gonna be What are your like short term goals And what's your long term goal with this? Where do you want to see yourself Necessarily in six months versus two years? Um Six months I would like to do like For sure another drop You know Two years Uh I really haven't questioned that yet I got you I guess I want to be like I guess somewhat streamlined like You know In a way Where I mean I I'm pretty It's a pretty organized And settled Kind of thing Where you don't have to spend too much time on it? Yeah I mean I'm fine with spending time But like I want it to be I want it to have a basis for sure You know what I'm saying I got you And um When you reference You know an additional drop in six months Like what What is that picture for you? Would it be like three additional products You'd be adding to your website? Yeah It would be like For sure Two different types of like Hoodies And then like Probably some tees Or something And then after that I just want to do like caps Like ball caps Or whatnot You know Okay And so Like when I pull up your homepage And you know I see the Navy blue colorway The quality club baby blue And the club cream Yeah I need to change those two pictures FYI The So I tried to tell you that Yeah And one thing I was going to say So when you When this website was made Do you know what it was made on? Like WordPress Or anything like that? It was It was Shopify So it was Shopify Okay So And you have the access To that Yourself right? Yes Yeah Cool So um Like for instance Like when you Go to the first page That navy blue colorway Picture detaches And rolls with it All the way to the next one Yeah Versus like the other two don't So I think we can easily You know Switch that up And just paste that Into a new header Yeah For sure As far as the three photos go I I like the shots of them I just think that If we could blend out A lot of those Like shadows To actually get like The feel Like for the club cream In particular Yeah So We need to For sure fix those We need to get new shots That's my That's my plan Within the The next few weeks For sure Cool And so do you have Like a camera Or do you use Like a friend That has one? I got Yeah I got a friend That has one Sweet Um What I will say is Um The ones that you do have Right now Just in the meantime If you want to send me The Those files Um You know Do all the color mixing And masking on them So they can just look good Until you get new shots Um If that's something you want me to do I don't mind doing that at all When I get new shots Do you want me to send them To you as well? Yeah Yeah Definitely Um Cause I'll have RJ My nephew He'll be working on All of the The content for that And he's really good at Just highlighting some stuff And I'll send you some photos That I've already done So you can kind of get a feel Of what those already are Um But definitely We can focus on that At a later conversation As far as like The shots and whatnot Um So Another question I have for you Um Would just be I know you had talked about Hey This is where I want to be In six months You haven't really thought about Too much like Where I want to be In two years from now I would say I would say one thing It's important to establish That at a You know At this Certain type of timeline Because It's very easy To underestimate What we can do In a short amount of time And then Or overestimate At the same time You know what I mean? Yeah, yeah So I think it's like Hey This is where I want to be And this is How we're going to get there And then there's like The sub part Of all of that And I think If all of us Are just at a good Understanding of that We're easily able To track that As we go on And keep those as our You know Priorities For your business Totally I feel that Um So Another thing Is Like for the Navy blue colorway For instance Um After reading Like all of the Descriptions for them Um Like the end of them Are pretty repetitive Like you know This is a must For the wardrobe And whatnot Yeah I don't think You need to Enhance like You know Bigger words Or anything like that But for that Instead of saying The patent high quality Navy blue sweatshirt Is a stylish Um You know You're already Referencing with that Like You want Like If that's gonna be The first thing That people see Ideally One You want it to be Your number one product Um That sells the most Um So maybe saying Something like You know Introducing the patent Navy blue sweatshirt A standout piece That combines style And quality And then You already reference You know Having the quality So you can say Like Uh With the patent logo Up front And the quality club Slogan on the back It's a unique addition To any wardrobe Instead of ending Every single one With you know The whole wardrobe piece Um And then You can say You know Made from top notch Materials It's comfy And built to last It's relaxed fit And simple design Makes a perfect For everyday wear Get yours now And upgrade your Casual look With the patent Navy blue sweatshirt So something like Along those lines Okay Um So what I'll do is Um I already kind of like Created a little verbiage For that one But I'll go in and Do all three of them And I'll send them to you And see what your thoughts Are on it And just see if that's Something that you like Um Cause I just I want each piece And I know you want Each piece to be able To stand out From one another Um Yeah As what they are Yeah For sure Um And um I wouldn't mind even putting Those like Navy blue sweatshirts Like on the back burner Cause those are kind of like Like Honestly Honestly they're dog crap Cause we just didn't have Enough money But like now We're getting money So We're out getting money So There's Quality Like This next go around Is going to be way better Great So um Yeah So do you have any Like any statistics On like What's selling On those compared To the others Right now Really None of them are Cause like I've been having Pretty much In person buys Okay So Right now the sweatshirts Are just selling Really Okay So I would say this Like once we do start Kind of getting that off You know The charts If that's not going to be Your focal point Then let's Either You know Put that like you said To the back burner Or at least like Towards the bottom Or at least Keep the highlighted Um You know Sweatshirts that are Selling the most As your main You know Visual point When people go on Your website Um The good thing about The website Is it's It is simplistic Um I love the color Format that you chose I think you know Going with that Neutral Modern tone Is definitely Where companies are Starting to gear Towards in general Um Just Like You know The standard You know White and black And gray that everybody Has used in the past Um But I would say Definitely focus On your high value Products So What we'll want to do For that Um And I have all this Written down So I'll send this To you guys So we can kind of Recap later on Um Is to focus On your high value Products And once you've Been able to Determine what Your operating Cost is So like Increasing the sale Of your high value Or you know Top selling products That will Help you maximize Your profits And increase your Margins Um Right Okay Now Once you Once we can Determine that We need to start Focusing on Reducing your Operating cost So Yeah For sure Do you know Exactly or Subpar Labor done Um By itself I would say Probably I would say Like Max Probably 25 to 30 bucks Just to make it Yeah Like totally done Okay And And you're selling It on average For What These new ones Um I'm going to Sell them Probably I was thinking like I was going to put them High up there Like 75 75 And so how have you What response have you got From people In person With that price Have you felt like That ever steers it away Or do you think That it speaks for itself I mean I think Once they see it When it's done It'll definitely speak for itself But I mean obviously Local people Especially in this town You know They're kind of I mean obviously They underestimate Cause I'm a 17 year old Trying to do this crap Right And they're like 75 But I mean More mature people I've talked to Think it's a good price I mean I think It's a great price Especially cause you get What you paid for back For sure Definitely I agree Go ahead Cal So Basically For you to understand Like His only clients Right now Are mainly like Friends and family Yeah and that's You were telling me that earlier That's why He needs Like You know He's trying to create it As a store Where Instagram or Like more You know when it comes to Clothing online You gotta find You usually find it on Social media platforms Or you know That type of marketing Stuff It's like When it comes to 75 I think You'd have to start off A little bit less Than that to Take action Yeah I mean So what do you think Like 65? So I think It's this If you're saying that Say $30 on the high end To make a t-shirt Or to make a sweater And we're selling it For 60 bucks We're still at a 50% margin Which An average An average ecommerce store Only Maximum Most of the time We're getting 20% So you're way above The average And so In hindsight When you're dealing with Only a select few It kind of sucks But when you're dealing With high bulk It'll make just way more Sense at that point So Caleb Caleb's definitely Hitting on a solid point That If we start smaller And at least get more Out there We're able to get A better response And understand Where the profit margin Needs to be at Okay yeah For sure I even think Dipping down to You know 50 55 You know Is a great idea Just so we can see You know What we're working with At that point But the thing is We also have to account for You know Any type of Transportation costs For customer deliveries You know With the online store Yeah I do have some people That I've recently talked to And met That deal with Distribution Now mind you I'm Fairly new to the Product space of things So as I develop These relationships With these people I'll see what Direction Would be best To help you get pointed in For that But I would say Typically From what I've seen so far If you were to Get this shipped across You're probably paying Three to five dollars For each individual piece Which really only cuts into About five percent Of your profit anyways Which Isn't much But I noticed also On like the website These drastic drops Of prices From like 70 to 40 A lot of people get that Sense of like Buyer beware At that point Because They People Anything they know about business They'll instantly know that You were just They'll think That you're trying to get A huge margin right And so I wouldn't I would honestly delete The like Marked off prices For now And just leave it as Forty dollars USD sale Like you don't need to You know Try to say that it used to be this You know Yeah But definitely I would say Let's Let's try to get the price down At the end of the day It's your company And you need to feel comfortable With what you're doing But Sacrificing a little bit of time To really understand What the market's saying Is going to be very crucial At the end of the day Yeah for sure Also When When you come to Increasing your prices as well Starting smaller Is going to be So much better for you Because Even Like say Say your Your cost for Say you're selling like A shirt for A hundred and sixty five bucks For some reason And The cost of goods All in Transportation Making Labor All that is A hundred and twenty bucks And say you only profit Forty five out of that So You're at a Forty seven percent Profit margin Which is still above The average But If you only raise your price By just four ninety nine Which seems small But that's bringing it up A whole three percent Almost And even a three percent Difference Can lead to a larger Overall benefit When you're dealing With bigger numbers Yeah Yeah And that's how you're going to Start building Consumer trust as well No e-commerce business Can remain successful Without a certain level Of consumer trust So like What your customers say Is the best thing for you And At the end of the day The twenty percent Of customers That small group Are At the end of the day Are going to bring you That eighty percent Of your results So Luckily You can build Consumer trust To enhance your store And your profitability And A bunch of different ways That You can build trust And encourage shoppers To purchase your products You know By creating More information on it So like If we do like We can Create more descriptions About what you're offering And those types of things Focus more On your like Website design Make it more welcoming Just giving a good Positive first impression On new customers Yeah You did really well In providing proof Of past customers Like their reviews And testimonials Yeah But I would say Two things That I would add Would be One A loyalty program So Customers can benefit And Guarantee Repeat Purchases From them Oh yeah But also Start to develop A brand story So At the end of the day Like If you think of a bouquet of flowers Right Bouquet is made up of All different types of flowers A bouquet isn't a real thing It's It's the same thing With a brand A brand is what it is Because what they associate With it So You can't associate Like Weeds in your bouquet And associate like Dandelions Dandelions It doesn't make sense So You want to also Start Having people say Hey This patent brand Is associated With these things Which line along With what I believe And that's how You're starting to build Consumer trust Oh yeah Like If I If I stand on a stage With you know A bunch of gold bars You're going to associate Me with money Now if I stand on a stage With a bunch of porn stars You're going to associate Me different You know So It's It's It's It's It's It's It's It's It's It's It's It's It's It's It's It's It's It's It's It's It's It's It's It's It's It's It's It's It's It's It's It's It's It's It's It's It's It's It's It's It's It's It's It's It's It's It's
