Solder is a metal alloy made of tin and lead in different proportions. The melting point of solder is lower than that of pure lead or tin. Cumnlongan Castle in Scotland is said to be haunted by the spirit of Marian Carruthers, who died trying to avoid an arranged marriage. The castle now operates as a hotel and is popular for weddings. Despite its age, the hotel offers modern amenities. The two transcription analyses were different: one focused on engaging the audience with the topic of solder, while the other balanced a ghost story with advertising the hotel. Solder is a metal alloy made by combining tin and lead in different proportions. Here, the proportions are equal, so it's known as 50-50 solder, 50% tin and 50% lead. A 60-40 solder would consist of 60% tin and 40% lead. You can find these percentages marked on various types of solder available, and sometimes only the tin percentage is shown. The striking fact about solder is its low melting point. A pure lead has a melting point of 325°C, pure tin a melting point of 232°C. But, when you combine them into a 50-50 solder, the melting point drops to 216°C. The ghosts haunting Cumnlongan Castle in Clarencefield, Scotland, died trying to get out of an arranged marriage. In 1564, Marian Carruthers, a local Nowoon, was on the verge of being forced into the marriage when she disappeared. Her body was found a few months later. Locals say that, because she was never given a proper funeral, her spirit still roams the many passageways, chambers, and spiral staircases enclosed within the castle's 12-foot thick stone walls. Today, the castle is run as a three-star hotel, and is a popular wedding and honeymoon spot. Guests spend their days fishing, riding horses, or golfing on the three nearby courses. Later, guests retire to the twelve suites, thankfully equipped with all the modern conveniences despite the castle's age. But, with the wind blowing through the 120 acres of secluded grounds, and perhaps the faint cry of the anguished Marian Carruthers, some guests may find it hard to sleep. So, my analysis work for these two copies were very, very different from each other, as you might be able to imagine. For the first one about solder, there wasn't an awful lot of nuance to analyze. So, what it came down to was finding places to put a little bit of color and a vocal flair to keep the audience engaged, and if not enthusiastic about the prospect of lead tin alloy, then at the very least interested. The second one was a lot more fun, and is my personal preference. I tried to balance this sort of ghost story character while also sort of advertising this three-star hotel in Kumlongan Castle, and I feel like I was able to achieve that to limited effect. I was more focused on the character given the sort of note that came with the read, but given that they're selling this hotel on this ghost, that may not be such a bad thing. I think I definitely could do a read of it that was a little bit more informative and would be more on the advertising side of things, but, I mean, again, they're selling it on the ghost, so give them the ghost.
