The COVID-19 pandemic caused global disruption and long-term quarantine. Vaccines are usually developed over many years, but the COVID-19 vaccine was created and distributed in less than a year. Imagine that you're sitting in class on a typical Friday when your principal announces over the loudspeakers school will be shut down until further notice. Wouldn't you and your friends rejoice and look forward to the innumerable days of fun and leisure? Unfortunately, rather than endlessly spending time with your friends or exploring new places during your time off, you were isolated and trapped in your home for over a year. Although this scenario may have seemed absurd to us a mere decade ago, the entire globe is now familiar with this idea of long-term quarantine and the serious implications it imposes on society. In 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted the lives of billions of individuals with almost 7 million confirmed deaths globally. This highly contagious disease spread like wildfire across the world and due to its high fatality rate, a lightning-fast response was necessary. Because of their complexity, vaccines typically take 10 to 15 years to be completely developed, but the COVID-19 vaccine was created and distributed in less than a year.
