He dedicated himself to running, winning numerous races in school and college. Alongside his athletic pursuits, Phil completed his MBA in 1962. Despite his efforts, he realized one morning during practice that he wouldn't become a national or international level athlete. At 24, Phil accepted that his athletic career had peaked at the state level. Though his dream of becoming an elite athlete was over, he wanted to stay connected to sports.
