So on this week's podcast episode, I'm going to be talking a bit about the major I've chosen and the sport that I play, and also how they tie into each other. So starting off with my major and why I chose it. So I chose my major because ever since I was really little, I knew I wanted to do something that involved me using my hands because I'm a very hands-on person, and also something dealing with athletics. So at first, I was like dead set on becoming an athletic trainer, which is cool and all, and so I found that I could be a sports med PA, which has a lot more benefits and also a lot more money involved. So with that, the major I'm currently in is health science with a bioscience general concentration. And I wanted to major in sports medicine, but unfortunately, DePaul doesn't offer it as a major. So anyways, I plan to get all of my prereqs here under my general track, so that way when I need to apply for medical school, I have all of those out of the way, and it will be a pretty easy process. So once I'm in medical school, I plan to get all that done, therefore, hopefully it'll open up a lot of opportunities for me job-wise, and hopefully one of those jobs is eventually going to be a PA at a hospital that takes care of primarily athletes. The reason I'm so big on being with athletes is because I, myself, am an athlete right now playing softball, and for me personally, I truly appreciate people who work specifically with athletes. I think people who do that, they take the time to genuinely get to know the person that they're working on, and sometimes the doctors that I go to, they try to keep up with their pre-season successes or games and stuff like that, so whenever you go in for a checkup or whatever, they're always like, oh, how was your game today, or how was your game over the weekend, or something like that. So it just really makes it a more personal and enjoyable experience, because you feel seen and heard, and not awkward when telling them how you either injured yourself or whatever the case may have been. Also, I know when I go to a doctor who really isn't big on the sports side of things, I'll tell them something, and they'll kind of be like, well, can you explain what that means? I don't really understand something like that. So I think just people who work in a field, it just makes the process way more easier, because obviously they get what you're going through, and they've seen it maybe a thousand times before, so they know exactly what to do and how to help you, the right things to say and stuff like that. So I play softball since I can remember, like I mentioned before, and it's a true passion of mine. My desire for this sport is to peak without losing a love for it. I love this sport so much, but I want to get to the point where I am at my best and not looking back, but also while being at my happiest, if that makes sense. I just want to be good and happy at the same time. So my desire is to peak without losing a love for it. So once I finally peak, I feel that I'll be able to move on to the next chapter of my life, which would be a sports high PA. Then once I'm in that field, I hope to achieve the same thing, which is to peak while being happy at the job I'm doing. These two goals of mine, I feel, could alter the state of my life for the better, because with softball, I can use these connections that I have through sports to push along my career and get to talk to people. With my career, it could set me up for life, potentially, depending upon the job I score in that certain field. So that's pretty much what this podcast episode was about, just why I chose my major and my sport. I hope you enjoyed it, so thank you so much for listening.
