The speaker talks about how their essays were started at the library but finished at home with their dad. They were homeschooled and associated their dining room with schoolwork. The speaker and their dad spent many late nights reading and editing papers together. The dad's presence and help made the essay writing process meaningful and showed how much he loved them. Writing not only renewed the speaker's love for writing, but also brought them closer to their dad. While my essays were always started at the library, they were finished at home, at my dining room table, late at night, with my dad. Being homeschooled through middle school, my dining room was always associated with schoolwork for me. I was comfortable and confident. My dad and I spent many late nights at the table, eyes drooping, reading my papers over and over. He always stayed up with me until my paper was printed and in a folder, ready to go for school the next day. Knowing we were in it together kept me going. An essay was not complete until my dad sat next to me at the kitchen table, red pen in hand, and helped me edit it. He taught me big words. I liked to use the few I knew frequently. He taught me to be patient with myself, and through the little process I always went through, the little act of always helping with my essays, my dad showed me how much he loved me. So while the library helped me renew the love I had for writing, writing also became a process that brought me closer to my dad and allowed me to spend time with him while also always learning from him.
