This transcription is a conversation between two people discussing characters from the anime series Bungo Stray Dogs. They talk about the main characters from the Armed Detective Agency, such as Atsushi Nakajima, Dazai Osamu, Kunikida Doppo, and others. They also discuss characters from the Port Mafia, including Akutagawa Ryuunosuke, Higuchi Ichiyou, and Chuya Nakahara. The conversation includes some humor and opinionated comments about the characters. The conversation jumps around a bit and includes interruptions and side conversations. Overall, they express their love for the show and their excitement to discuss it on their podcast. Fancy, it's started. Are we explaining the characters first? Yeah, do we want to like do a quick explanation of the characters? This is, you can tell this is very planned out. Yeah, it's not planned. So do we have like a character, a plot line, like the character is the plot line, kind of, of the first season? No one knows what the plot line is. The plot line is really funky. Well, then we can't find the groups. Literally no boom, go straight up. I think that's true. I'm sad, though, that when we lost the recording, we also lost my pure reaction to Mori. Like, for my realization that Mori is literally dating someone who's minor. But he's chosen, because, wait, have you seen the new episode yet? No. Okay, then I can't tell you that. But it is about Yosono's backstory, just to let you know. Yeah, I heard that her backstory is going to get animated. It's very interesting. Anyways, hi, Mr. Mahan. Hi, Mr. Mahan. So our podcast is going to be kind of like explaining and reviews of animes, I guess. Yeah. So we're going to start with one. We have a list of them. And so the first one on our list, they're in alphabetical order, so we have to start with D, because we couldn't find an A. And so we're starting. There's a B. Oh, B, sorry, I'm dumb. Listen, okay, it has a D in it, so I'm allowed to mess things up. That's all the way at the end. Anyways, we're starting with B, and it is Bungo Stradogs. It's the most recent one I've watched, and your favorite, right? Yeah. Your favorite, okay. My ultimate favorite is the best. The superior. Superior. It's supreme. Yes. Supreme. Dazai with a supreme shirt on. That would be terrifying. No, Chiyo with a supreme shirt on. No. That doesn't fit him. It would not. Nothing is going to fit him. No, all of, in any of his official art, or in all of the versions of the show, like the actual show, Dead Apple 1, all of his pants are curled up at the bottom. Yeah, I mean, I have to do that with a lot of my jeans. Yeah. That's funny. You should get children's pants. I buy stuff in the kids' section all the time. He's too embarrassed. He could pass himself as a child. How old is he? Like 20? 22. He's 22? He could pass as a child still. He's 5'3". Oh, yeah. No, we're the same height. We could pass as, I mean, people still think I'm, actually, no, people think I'm older. Anyways, we should, I've been mistaken as a 16-year-old before. I know. So, anyways, shall we start with the first, like, shoot, so with character introductions, because we want to, do we want to do that first? Do you want to go by group they're introduced in, or, and then characters in those groups that are introduced first? So, like, we would start with Azushi and then Dazai, and then we go, like, and then when we get to the port mafia, we go, like, for who's introduced, blah. Okay, so, to start, we have the fan favorite. Everyone loves him so much. He's never been made fun of before at all. He has. I've seen people. Yeah. He's being sarcastic. Anyways, Azushi, what's his last name? Nakajima. Nakajima. Tiger man. Tiger man. Furry boy. Kitty cat. No, he gets mad when you call him kitty cat. Yeah, so we're going to call him kitty cat. Kitty cat boy. Kitty cat. Meow, meow. Meow, meow. Meow. Wasn't he, like, 14 when they found him? It said 19 in the manga. It was 19 when they got to his, like, little about section. Well, he's 19 now. Was there a flashback at the beginning of him? I feel like he wouldn't have been 14. I thought it was 14, though, because I'm pretty sure they get kicked out at 14. But he was kicked out because of the tiger rampage. Yeah, because of food. Yeah. Anyways, I think that's a really good way to introduce him. Yeah. I'm going to move the microphone a little bit, and then I'm going to move it down, because you're sitting on a smaller chair than I am. Small, yeah. Small, small. His ability, because they all have special abilities on the show. Oh, wait, we did start with the introduction to the company. Crap. Oh, yeah. We're so organized right now. Yeah. So, the Armed Detective Agency, otherwise known as the ADA. I think that explains themselves, though. They're just a group of people who have magical powers. They're not magical powers. They're magical. They're not magical. They're Sailor Moon. No, wait. Just imagine that. I've seen that regarding someone dead of Trump as Sailor Moon. Oh, my God. I think it was either. I saw that on my own. I saw Levi as Sailor Moon from, like, Attack on Titan Levi. Wow. Wow. That's just amazing. We love that. Okay, anyways, yeah, the ADA group of people with special abilities. And, by the way, they ingrain these abilities into your head when you watch the show because, like, for some reason, the only way they can activate it is by saying it out loud. Every show that has, like, a power thing. I know. It's so weird. I don't understand. Because they don't do that in Marvel. Yeah. I don't think they've done it in any. I don't watch a lot of Marvel. I think it's in their brain. But, no, like, when Sailor Moon's like, Mom, I'm dead. And, like, no one looks at her, and she does it in public, and she's, like, screaming it in her bedroom. Yeah. And then her parents are just like. It's kind of like in musicals how the character will start singing, and everyone around them is just, like, still vibing. Yeah. You know, they're still having a high school musical, you know, walking down the hallway singing. And then everyone else is just there, I guess. Yeah, so. But anyways, we already introduced Asushi. Do you want to do Dabai? Do you want to, like, switch off characters? Sure. Okay. You get Dabai. Okay, something I have to mention first is J.D. is hot. J.D. from Heaven, by the way. That's what we're going to. Yes. I didn't mean the actor, but whatever. Jamie Caruso. Yes. Yes, okay, that's who you're saying is hot. Yeah, anyways. You had to introduce Dazai. It's Dazai Osamu. Dazai Osamu is a 22-year-old man. He likes suicide. And. Men. And women. He likes them both equally. Yeah. Well, it's very obvious that he likes men. He uses women as a cover act. I think he does, honestly. He makes it so apparent. He tries to make it so clear. Oh. You didn't have to show me the door. I didn't. Are you okay? Did I not close it properly or did it just not close? I don't. Wait. I didn't close it properly. I am so sorry. Okay. Um. Yeah. Oh, yeah. The characters are, um, the authors. The characters are based off of authors. I've already told you this. You've actually read, like, a blurb that was at the back of one of the books. We love Tomi. We love Tomi. Yay. Tomi's cool. Tomi is another character from a completely different book series. She's from. Well, no. Kirito. Yeah, well, she's the actual woman that Dazai committed with. Wait, Tomi is an actual. Yeah, Tomi's a real person. Wow. Yeah. You've seen me reading Dazai Osamu's book, specifically the one that his ability is named after, which is No Longer Human. Yes. I own a few of the books to just them in general. I own. I get the next character, Doko Kunikida. I'm not going to introduce him because I think his only point in the show is to be, like, anyways. His only point in the show, I think, is to just, like, get mad at everyone all the time. That's his only point in the show. He was a math teacher, and his ability is called Dopopoe, right? Yeah. I know. I keep checking that every single time. Dopo. Dopo or Dopo? I think it's Dopo. Dopopoe. I think his English name is pronounced Dopo. Oh. And then it's Dopo in Japanese, I think. But, yeah, he was a math teacher. I think that describes enough. He's a very strict man. He loves his ideals. Yes. So his ideals is, you're talking about, like, his ideals is in the book? Yes. So his ability, he can, like, write stuff as long as he's seen it before and, like, knows what it is. And it's just his ideals in general. Yeah, his ideals in general. It has, like, his entire life story in it, apparently. That includes who he's going to marry in the future, which is really weird. Okay. So, yeah, there's that. And, yeah, I don't know. Who's introduced next? Oh, yeah. So then there's, like, a little scene where you get to see the rest of the ADA. And the first one introduced in that one is Aragabo Rompo, right? Yes. Rompo is the first one. You like to talk about Rompo? The actual fan favorite here. Yes. Loved too much. Rompo, apparently, is a 26-year-old man, even though he acts two. He loves candy. Candy's good, though. Yeah. I don't blame him. Yeah, and not doing his work. Yeah. Doing anything but the work he's been assigned. Literally. He'll ask for anything but that. And, again, he's based off a real author. Yes. The actual author, by the way, wrote the book. I don't know if you've ever heard of it. You probably actually haven't. It's literally called The Caterpillar. That's not the name of his ability, though. Let me see if I can go on about his ability. Okay. So the president, so he told him he had an ability a really long time ago when he was, like, 14. Yeah. And he started very much believing it and screaming it out into crowds that he had an ability. Yeah. You'll see that in season four. Yeah, this all the way to season four. He tries to make himself believe he has an ability. I'm pretty sure he knows he doesn't actually have an ability. He definitely knows after season two. Not one episode. Yeah, and his quote-unquote glasses make him smart. He's just smart in general. I think he can just see with his glasses on. I think that's what's actually happening. He's just smart in general. He's using that excuse because he's blind. Yeah, I mean, he's probably, I can't relate. Oh, wait, that's how he closes his eyes. Because he can, yeah, I mean, like, I can relate to that because I can see better with my glasses. He's probably, like, in that situation where, like, he can see, but it's like he has to squint when he doesn't have his glasses on, which is why he squints, like, all the time. But when he has his glasses on, he can open them all the way unless he's been slapped in the face. But that's another story. Why was I so offended he opened his eyes? Is Yosono or Tenji next? I think. I think Tenji is next. I thought it was Yosono. Because he, like, said a whole blurb about, like, how there was no death, like, that. And then, like, he just, like, whoo! He just comes in. Dead bodies. Sadie's not on this cow. Cow. Hanako. Hanako. Not to be confused with another anime. Yosono is Dr. Her name is Dr. Yosono. I don't know her actual first name. And she has, like, a whole crazy storyline that we don't want to get into here. Wow. But her ability is, it's thou shall not die. And she basically kills someone and then revives them. That's kind of how it works. Yeah. That's the best way to put it. She's a very traumatized, deeply traumatized human being. That's really all I can say. Um. She worked in the war as a nurse when she was 11 years old. Uh, World War I. The Great War. Otherwise known as. And then Mori traumatized her. Yeah. We can blame, well, no, because the guy who hung himself in front of her. Oh, goodness. Okay, you get to do, ah! Totally the most cosplayed character in the entire show, Kenji. Kenji, um, he's interesting. Femboy. Femboy. He's like Louisa, that's her name, right? From his ganto. With his strength. Yeah, he's like a scrawny little 14-year-old and he just picks up stuff. Yeah. Like it's not a German boy from Fruits Basket. Yeah. Just not as small. Yeah, well, I don't think Mr. Mahan's gonna know. No, no, no, okay. For context, you have to look up German boy Fruits Basket, because I don't know how to pronounce his name. Um, and you'll see that. And then you look up Kenji from Bongo Stray Dogs. It has, um, a U at the end. Um, I keep forgetting that, that's why I'm telling you that. Um, and you'll see that, and then you can put them side to side. And why are you throwing that at the door? And you'll see, oh my gosh, they do look the same. Anyways, oh, you've died. Anyways, Kenji is Kenji. Yeah, he's not that important, is he? Um, not really. I don't know, we don't know anything about that author. He's based off an actual author. I think he is. I don't know. Is Kyoka? Yes, Kyoka is, I think she's also based off an actual author. Oh, should we add Kyoka into the ADA group? Yeah. Well, actually, she's part, first of all, part of the more, part, more? Part of the Mori. The Mori Mafia. She's part of the Port Mafia. Yeah, she's 14. Yeah. She's cool. She's cute. I actually quite like, oh. Okay, we're back. We just went to lunch. We have Sarah in the room now. Sarah's under the desk. Hi, Sarah. Hi, Sarah. Sarah says hi. We were talking about, I think we were talking about Kyoka, but we didn't finish talking about the snow guy. Oh, yeah. Who has a very weird relationship. Tanizaki. Tanizaki. Do you want to explain him? Because I think you know more about him. So, his ability is, like, light, called light snow. Yeah. And it, like, allows him and objects I think he touches or chooses to be invisible. Be invisible, obviously. With snow. Right. Yeah. Like, the way the light reflects on snow. There's got to be some weird scientific thing behind that. Yeah. That we don't know. Do we want to talk about Naomi, or do we want to just, like, quickly discuss that she's disgusting and we hate her with a burning passion? Yeah. Let's just leave it at that. Yeah. Don't look up Naomi from Mongo Stray Dogs. I guess the next group we want to talk about is the Mafia. Port Mafia? Yeah. Oops. We're being loud. I'm sorry, Mr. Man. Yeah. We're very sorry. We might fix everything. R.I.P. your eardrum. Yes. So, the Port Mafia is the Mafia, but in Japan and not in Italy. Yeah. Because the Mafia is, in fact, Italian. You could even say they're the gay Mafia, because most of them are gay. Yeah, most of them are very gay. Bless you. Bless you, Queen. So, do we want to start with Octogobble and then Geen and then, like... Sure. Whatever her name is. Blonde-haired lady. Fuguchi? Yeah, her. I think that's her name. So, Octogobble, I've told you about him a few times, I think. He has no eyebrows. Yeah, no eyebrows, man. And his ability is... I mean, he works for the Port Mafia. And his ability is Rashomon, which it goes on... Like, it's a weird shadow thing that comes from his cape. His cape, his coat. He's only on his coat. And we've discussed this before about how, like, a lot of people think that it's part of him and not only on his coat. So if he takes his coat off, he doesn't have the ability anymore. But a lot of people think he still has the ability. It's really funny. Do you want to talk about Geen? His sister? I don't really know much about Geen. Geen is an assassin who is a queen. Yes. You don't really know that she's a girl until, like, one of the last episodes in Season 2. And she's like, I remember when you were this tall, just a little less. That part was kind of cute, though. And then she's like, oh, stop it. And the girl who has a very obsessive crush on... Aka? Aka Tagawa. She's like, wait, Geen is a girl. That was funny. Yeah, it was actually really cute and really funny. I love that. I'm pretty sure Izuguchi also... Oh, Higuchi. Yeah. They can be pronounced either way. I've heard of Higuchi, but... I think Higuchi actually kind of likes Geen. Because I've seen them, like, blush around each other. Well, maybe Geen likes her. Yeah. No, there's no way Geen is... I feel like Geen... Yeah. After that, we got Higuchi. She's queen, kind of. She's also really weird, though. Yeah. She's very obsessive. I actually kind of like her character. Yeah, I mean, I like her character design. What was really funny was when they introduced her in the... You would think that, like, Dazai would know. Yeah. Because he is an ex-Port Mafia executive. I know we didn't talk about that around 19 minutes ago, but he is. Yeah. And so I feel like he would know, and he didn't know. Well, like, he knew that she was part of the Port Mafia, but, like, you would think that he would tell everyone. I mean, he is not maybe the smartest person to do that. And so, like, hey, don't talk to her. She's going to try and kill us right after this. But there was this funny part in the alleyway when they had the, like, first really big fight scene, and she put her hair up. And I was just like, and you didn't see she was a Port Mafia member before that. Yeah. She went from normal citizen with hair down to, the second she puts her hair up, still dressed the exact same, by the way, she's now a Port Mafia member. That was funny and really confusing. And then after that we have, would you like to talk about Chuya? Yes. Okay, so we're going to talk about Chuya. Yeah, he has the honors of talking about Chuya. Chuya is a 5'3 chihuahua. He's a ginger with a ponytail. Yes, he has a ponytail. Yeah, he has a really funky ponytail. He dresses really fancy, and he's also quite canonly gay. Oh, yes. Yeah, very. He has some extreme anger issues. He's also the ex-best friend of Dazai Osamu. They weren't best friends. They didn't seem like best friends. Well, they were kind of like best friends in like a, like, they fight all the time. Oh, okay, yeah. They don't love each other. Yeah. Yeah. The best kind of relationship. Did you know Fuya is canon? It is? Yeah, it is. Okay, we had a conversation about this last week. Yeah. I remember that. Oh, that's nice. That's really, really cute. It's kind of canon. Like, the art is like really canon. Yes. And I would say the art is canon. Either that or he's just doing what Hasbro did in that One My Little Pony episode where they just gave a lot of fan service. I believe Sokaku is to be canon. Because the author actually ships them. They were meant, they were designed for each other. Mm-hmm. Dazai and Tuya. Yeah. Like, Tuya was originally designed in the show to be Dazai's boyfriend. Yes. But I'm not going to talk about the author for a lot here. But the author is a very interesting person who wrote. But the author has, I've seen like clips and stuff. Like, you can find compilations, I think, at least from my knowledge, of like the weird stuff he's posted onto Twitter and things. There was this one really funny time where he like broke an old phone or something. And he was like, I finally did it. Finally. He's a very interesting man. Do we want to talk about Mori? Man. Or should we just say Mori is disgusting. Mori is disgusting and dating his child. Well, she's not really his daughter since she's like 54. Fair point, yeah. His special ability is literally a child. Yeah. Well, he can, she's 54. That's why she acts like that in the show. Yeah. Oh, I don't. She's 54. But Mori has the ability to change her shape. Like the age looking. Yeah, but she's still the same age as him. That's weird. He physically stated in the show, I like my girls to be under 12. Did he? Yeah, he did. I didn't see that. We're back like an entire week later. Yeah, during first flicks, as you know. Because the thing stopped recording. I don't even remember who we were talking about last. I, do you want to play it back? Okay, anyways, yeah, we were talking about Mori and how disgusting he is. Yeah. Yeah, in other words, I didn't hear him say that he likes his girls young. I did look it up, and you can find like a few clips of it. He's, have you, wait, you have seen the latest episode, like not today's episode, but like last week's episode, right? I need to watch it. Okay, so it is about your Snow's Back story. I just heard myself say this, but we are an entire week later. Yeah. So, that's funny. Anyways, Mori's disgusting. We hate Mori. That looks really good. We have a cookbook in here right now. Don't ask. Don't ask. We found it. We found it, and now we're just, whoa. Taiyaki. Taiyaki, yeah. Fish. Fish. Fish. I, for some reason, always have something I'm allergic to in it. I'm allergic to peanut butter. It doesn't have peanut butter in it. Usually it does. No, it has custard. Oh, I've seen a lot of people put peanut butter in it. Oh, no. It's usually, um. I'm going to move this out. It's like red beans. Red thingy beans. It doesn't sound that good, though. Or custard. Yeah. I heard someone made an Oreo one, and it sounded weird. I ate Taiyaki ice cream a couple months ago, where it's like, this is like the cone. They use this as the cone, and then put ice cream in it. That sounds good. It's really good. Okay. But it gets it all soggy. It probably does, yeah. It looks good. Okay, we got to start working now. Okay. Okay. So, Mori is bad. Elise is good. Question mark. We can make her all gawky? Yeah. This is just the best thing in the world. We've turned from almost 26 minutes of making fun of characters and stuff. Yeah. Okay. Um. I don't think we've talked about Theodore, right? I feel like we're missing a few characters. We did talk about Theodore. Did we? Yeah. Oh, yeah, because we called him a rat. But is it on recording is the question? I believe so. I'm pretty sure. Okay. Theodore is a man, is a Russian man. Yeah, we did. Okay, I remember that, because we were talking about Nikolai and Theodore. Those look delicious. Those do look really good. Oh, my God. What have we not talked about? Hey, editing Libby here. So it turns out we actually didn't talk about Theodore. So I'm just going to put in a quick blurb for a few seconds. Theodore Dostoevsky, the guy who wrote Crime and Punishment, he basically runs the underground rat ring is what we like to call it. I am so sorry that didn't get recorded. I'm sorry if you were confused. We talked about the agency. I think we talked about most of the port mafia, right? Yeah. What did we not talk about? We forgot the name of that guy with the green coat. The guy who, in the one, I was right. In one, he is, in fact, voiced by Ben Diskin. I was right. You were? Yeah, him. Oh, my God. He's voiced by Ben Diskin in the one, the same guy who voiced Haida from Aggresco. That looks really good, too. No, I think we have to make everything and then put it in here, because I saw a recipe for that, a recipe for that, a recipe for those. Oh, I've made the, like, parfait version of it without the stuff on top. Yeah. It's really easy. My dad and I used to make it whenever my mom was away. We would go out, and we'd get all the stuff to make, like, cream, and we would make it, and we'd put berries in it, and it tasted so good. Oh, my God. That looks like olive. I used to spell my name Olive. I know. I get called Olive by a little girl over the summer. She's the camp director for Food in the Open's daughter. And so I go by Olive over there because we always have so many Olivias and Livys and stuff. He looks like, he looks like. . . We didn't talk about all the four Mafia executives, and we didn't talk about the two guys Dazai was friends with. Oh, yeah. It was Aku and Anko. Anko? I called him Angu, but. . . Angu. It's Anko. Ooh, that looks good. I call him Anko. Like the Animal Crossing character. Okay. Jonathan A. Did you just say Jah-Jah? Jah-Jah. Honest thing. That's okay. Uh... I'm gonna start calling you Jonathan if you don't stop being annoying. Um... Oh, wow. Thirty-four minutes. Okay, we gotta wrap this up. Um... Uh... So... Then there's that guy who we just saw. We love Otosaku. Otosaku's king. Amazing. I wish his kids didn't die. Okay, anyways... Jack, help us. So, I did just cut this out, so you probably have no idea what I'm talking about, but we just had a little bit about ASMR, and that, I don't know what it stands for, but I will let you know, I did do some research on it, and the whole reason people listen to it is because of the binaural experience. Look it up if you already don't know what it means. Yay! Yay! Um, anyways... So... His name is Ango, right? Yeah, Ango Sakaguchi. Screw his last name. I don't know how to feel about Ango, honestly. Same. Because he seems like a nice person, but he also doesn't. Yeah. Like, he... Didn't he betray the poor mafia, actually? Or was that just like Otosaku, like, oh, he probably did. I don't know. I need to remember that part. I don't know who did. Who... Who will? Who will? How bad can I be? I'm just doing what comes naturally. How bad can I be? I'm just following my destiny. How bad... Okay, anyways. Yeah. Um, Ango is Ango. With slang! Yeah, okay, anyways. Bye-bye, I guess. I think we talked about all these. Wait, why are we bye-bye-ing? No, not yet. Oh, no, not yet? Okay. We're not bye-bye-ing yet. Okay. What are you doing? I'm sorry, Jack. I am... So... I'm not paying for the expenses on this microphone. This is like a $200 mic. Yeah. Bye-bye. Story time with editing Libby about what it's the process of doing the editing. So, this is the first time I've edited something. That's a weird word. Edited. Edited. Anyways. Um... I'm being texted. Uh, anyways. So, I did it twice because I accidentally did the wrong audio file. But, like, in all seriousness, thank you for listening to the rambling of us. Rambling of a crazy man. And thank you. And you're welcome, by the way, for editing this.
