The speaker is discussing the topic of fashion and how men seem to put more effort into their outfits than women. They invite two guests who are passionate about fashion to join the conversation. The speaker also shares their own interest in fashion and their plans to start a fashion business. They mention that more men own fashion businesses, but more women go to fashion school. They discuss the reasons behind men's fashion choices and why women might struggle with choosing outfits. The speaker concludes by sharing feedback from women who agree that men tend to dress better and mentioning their plans to create a fashion brand for women. All right, so we are live. Yeah, it's nice to be having this conversation with you. Yeah, just a little bit of background. I was just jokingly on WhatsApp, you know, I was just saying to myself, you know, I was thinking about men and women and fashion and I was like, I think I've seen more men put up with, you know, outings or outfits, rather, than women, based on what I've seen. And then, I mean, I was expecting a lot of, you know, a lot of, I think, like, my team to, like, grow up and the women would be, like, as strong, like, sexy and everything. I was ready for it, I mean. And it's not like it was, like, an opinion that I really held to heart. I just, you know, obviously, messing it up and then. Yeah, the question came around and it turns out men agree with this concept. So, yes, I was going to be talking about fashion. It's very different from what I was thinking before. But, yeah, this is the journey we're taking. At this point, at this particular period in my journey, I'm thinking about fashion. So, let's talk about fashion. And I have two amazing people that helped me in this discussion today. They are fashion people as well, you know, fashionistas in my network. And I feel, well, I'm not so knowledgeable about fashion, relatively. So, let me invite people that are into fashion right now, that love fashion and are really into it. So, I have Chika and I have Greg, you know, mine. So, I was, like, going to introduce myself. So, Joe, we have a culture in contact, in cultural introduction. We only give you six seconds to introduce yourself. We do this because we believe that if you have a shorter time to introduce yourself, you will need to ensure that you introduce yourself. All right. So, we're going to start with Polarpore. So, Polarpore, you have 30 seconds. And then you should introduce yourself. Okay. Hi. Hello. My name is Polarpore. I'm a full-time product manager. And I've been thinking about fashion since I was 19. And, yes, I would agree with you, because I'm a lifestyle artist. Wow. Wow. Okay. That sounds right on time. Lifestyle artist. That sounds like an interesting thing to do. Okay. Moving on to Chika. Chika, 30 seconds to introduce yourself. Hi. My name is Chika. I'm a full-time product manager. I'm passionate about fashion. Fashion is the lifestyle. I'm passionate about fashion. Amazing. Amazing. You guys are doing pretty well. Now, 10 seconds. Okay. Okay. So, I brought these two amazing people to discuss fashion. I've titled this episode, Fashion in Man's Business. And I think I'm kind of tilting towards that particular point. I mean, I was – so, I think before we got into the episode, I was telling you a bit about my background. And I was telling you about this period where I was actually a model. And I was thinking about, you know, pursuing fashion as, like, a side carrier or something like that. Of course, I got into tech. All of those dreams disappeared. I mean, I just thought about it again, like, early this year. And I was like, okay, let's start looking back into this business of fashion. And not just the business, but appearance. And, of course, looking into how we can improve the fashion statement in the country here. So, I mean, I even thought about investing into some businesses in fashion as well. And then I started becoming more intentional about my appearance and my ways as well. And then I – of course, because I got intentional about myself, I started intentionally looking at other people. Checking out what they wear, so I can probably, like, take some lessons, learn from them. And so, we combined it this way, and let me see if I can try that out, you know, something like that. And then I saw something on the other side. I saw the people that, you know, put in little or no effort, not to be rude or anything. Because, I mean, I was once like that. And then I tried to do, like, a ratio between the ladies and the guys. And I felt like – I think I enjoyed – I know I'm a guy, but, like, of course, if there were ladies that were really doing something amazing, I'm sure I would have seen it too, right? I've definitely seen some ladies doing some things too, right? I mean, that's why I actually got here. So, yeah, and then I was going into the business. It was time to actually get my hands into a fashion business itself. So, I went and started doing some research, some market research about how fashion businesses scale. And then I realized that more men own fashion businesses than women. So, that was the first shock I got. So, I'm just going to piggyback off that realization, and I'll just put it out to you guys. Since I'm talking about men, I would like – I'll kind of, like, direct it to Chika first. Like, men own more fashion businesses than women, but 84% more women go to fashion school than men. What exactly is going on here? Is it the business, or is it the fashion? Okay, I think right now it's the business, but if more men own fashion businesses, then they are being man-made by women. I mean, they are good managers. Interesting. That's a very interesting angle, okay. Okay. So, I mean, sometimes you might have the money, but you just have to, like, take a step back, because, you know, like, take it as a free job, free positivity, free branding and all of that. Interesting. Yeah. Wow, that's very interesting. So, I think what I'm trying to say, what we have just said, is that men own these businesses, not because they actually do the fashion thing. They just run the business, and then we have people that are actually producing the wares in charge of, like, design and all of those things at the other side. Okay, so, Drako, what would you say to this? Do you agree with what she has said, or do you think that men actually really rock this fashion thing? Actually, I think men rock this, like, come on, you know. Women see it as just a thing, like, they don't have to, because of their gender, they feel they have to dress, and the way they dress, they don't want to, like, dress that way. For me, the intentionality of putting those things up, and, you know, the old masculine that surrounds it, the confidence you get in putting up that thing, putting up that appearance to show about the common, if you do something so well, talking about, you know, this fashion so well, that you want to make it in business, I think you want to manage and not own stuff. No, I'm going to let Dr. Dawood answer. I mean, I'm not afraid to shake any water, but I think what he has said, I think it's interesting. I think maybe it's kind of true in my scenario. I have a background in fashion. I mean, when I was, like, you know, doing the entire modeling thing and all of that, I'm looking to go back into fashion, but I know I can't. I probably don't have the time or mental ability to maybe go for shoots or start some, you know, putting together these wears. I can focus on keeping my appearance at, you know, a bold standard, just making sure I invest in looking good, but I still enjoy fashion, so instead of doing it, I want to run my own business. So talking about the business, I think that's where I agree with you. I think where I kind of, like, lean towards your end is the fact that I have my money in this business also. I'm not making the wears. I'm not designing. I'm not doing any of those things, but I am making sure that this business actually succeeds, right? So from purchasing all the materials up to even the sewing process, I'm totally on top of making sure we do this, and even when it comes to the plans and the ideas of what we're building. So the kind of fashion business I'm about to build is very, very tailored to a particular sector of people and even gender, so it's very tailored. Coming back to the reality I had of why men, I feel like men dress or kill rock outfits better than women. Okay, I'm not going to spill the beans. The brand I'm working on is still up to ladies because I feel if ladies are not really coming up, don't worry. I'm going to solve your problem. I'm a problem solver. So I feel I'm going to solve your problem, and I'm going to dress you up. And I just met a lady who also has the exact same dream. I want to dress ladies up. I'm like, fine, let's do it together, right? So that goes to the question that what exactly happens when a lady dresses up? Yeah, here's what I'm asking. So on Tuesday when I put out this post on my WhatsApp, I got a lot of feedback. But the surprising thing is that every single lady that replied me agreed to what I said. They did agree that men rock outfits better than women. I'm going to read comments exactly as they said it. Now, this lady says she likes to watch the, you know, this Get Ready With Me trend online. She prefers to watch male Get Ready With Me. I'm not done. Another person says that women become too confused about so many things. They have a lot of ideas, and they do not know what to choose. So that when they eventually choose something, oh, there it is. That's not all. Yeah, so. I don't actually. Yeah, we have so many options. Yeah, we do have so many options, right? That's because we have so many things. Oh, too many things. That you don't end up knowing how to put together. Yeah. True. Oh, okay, true. Then that's it. No, true. True, I agree. Like, but then it's, I think it's intentionality, right? You don't, I don't think you want to go out and then you're not going to. Are you saying your gender, I'm not intentional about how you show contact? True. True, yeah. That's why I'm straight. Yeah, that's big. Yeah. Thank you. Yeah, but then it's not, it's just very few people that are interested. But I feel like fashion is a lifestyle. We should embrace it. And then probably because there are not, not too many females have this time. I don't even think it's a time because, I mean, now there are too many videos for you to watch and get this time. I just feel like they don't have the strength, the strength enough to go out and do homework. Like, you have to be feminine to go out. And I'm very serious. So probably, when the day, let's say, for example, you have a defense, and then the day's approaching, you might not get the vibe that you're like, okay, I don't want to wear this. It's not that you don't have to go. Probably because you don't have the gender or the vibe, or you feel like you're not doing it. So I think fashion tips, more videos, and more encouragement from, like, my fellow, the females that are into it, would help them to put more interest into doing that. So if you're recommending tips and tricks and then all these videos, does that mean you kind of agree that women don't get it right? Not 100%. Maybe they spend most of the time going to Naples, but, oh, wow, oh, yeah. And then they forget the main thing that they're interested in. Ah, interesting. Look, it is an interesting thing. Wow, I did not see that one coming. I didn't see that one coming. But to be honest, okay, well, I like that that particular comment to use this part. So there was this particular comment I also got. And then this lady says, when she gets confused about her wears, she prefers to ask other guys, like her male friends, what to wear than her female friends because she feels like every time she asks her male friends, she does get more confused than she was in the first place. Okay, so I'm going to also put this question to you, Talapore. What do you think about men's choice when it comes to dressing well? Okay, I think men's choice is more where are you going to? Where you are going to? What are you going to do there? So there are times when, you know, as a guy, you get over-dressed. You are well-dressed or you get over-dressed for that occasion. I didn't say corporate. If you are really the baller, I don't even want to say corporate, so you don't get messed up for the bouncer. Exactly. If you are really the baller, so you don't get messed up for the bouncer. So it's all about where you are going to, what are you going to do there. So that's where the old dressing starts from. You get to think about, okay, this is me going to this place. I have to show up in this way, in this manner. You don't want to go for a corporate, really, really corporate dressing. You know, where you live. You don't want to do that. It's just true. Just take everything off the balance for you. Yeah, I think that's true. Thinking about how I dress, I spend a lot of time. You see, the very small thing that I do. That's why I agree very much when you say it takes a lot of time. I spend a lot of time dressing up. And it is why, for the period of my life where, I mean, we're talking about this off-record. The period of my life where I didn't care about how I look was mostly because I walk. If I have to be, maybe in class, or maybe there's a test. So maybe there's a test at 12, right? I am most likely walking till 11.45. So, that 15 minutes window space, I just grab, grab. I just grab, grab. When I write my test, I'm back. So, I have no, I don't care about who has seen me during this period. I want to write the test, and that's all I want to come back home. I don't spend any more, I don't spend time, you know, I don't spend time printing. I don't do all of that. Because that's what I want to do. I don't care about where I'm going to, or what I want to do. But maybe just this way, maybe I start getting more attention about this thing. And then I know myself, I know that I'm not going to stop walking till 11.45. I'm not going to stop walking by 11 because I want to pick up the dress. I know myself, I'm not going to do that. So, I think that way earlier, right? So, I go to church Sunday, right? Before Sunday, like Friday. Like today, tomorrow now, I start arranging my dress and things like that. So, but, let me bring it back to women, having time to prepare an outfit. So, women plan outfits two weeks before the event. So, what is that? So, what are we now planning? Go ahead. I mean, I think I've seen a lot of ladies pull some things off in weddings, or go to some events. I mean, that's a lot of things. I've seen a lot of repetition. Wearing this gown, this shoe, I'm already expecting a heel. By the time I swipe, and I'm expecting one long weave. It's just very predictable. It's predictable, and I think it's easy. All of these plans, and also women that have more options. How does this relate to what they wear? How do you actually make these decisions if they have so much? Longer time. Yeah, they have longer time to prepare. How do you think that makes the decision longer? There are two things here. I think ladies spend more time preparing for outfits than men, generally. Also, ladies have more options than men. So, if you have more time and more options, why can't you be done? Still, I think the problem is not making time. I think one of the important things is make time to search for brands. To search for styles. I think it's because you're just used to the conventional. Gleek, and sugar, and that sort of thing. So, they don't want to go extra. And the only extra they can go is probably just the bust part. I feel like they don't do what is expected. I mean, going to Pinterest, you're going to get a lot of styles. Even color combinations. Colors that you would never imagine because they look so great on you. And I think knowing your skin tone and your style is very important. I don't think people put that into consideration. What's my style? What do I want? How do I want to look? That's 100% I believe as well. I'm going to say something now. This corset pandemic. At this point, I feel like we should talk about it. It's not comfortable. Why do I have to wear a corset and I'm not able to sit down? I won't be able to eat while the corset is on. And fashion is comfort. As long as you're comfortable with what you're wearing, then that's fashion. But if you're not, that's not fashion. Yeah. 100%. I mean, it was one of the things I saw this period. And then I just concluded that it can't be women. It can't be better. So, I was in this corset pandemic. And then I remembered so many other series of things that I've seen that every woman wants. I mean, we saw the Brazilian hair era. We saw the human hair era. I think I was in the human hair era. Exactly. And all of these things are great, no doubt. Do you think that a lot of women like to do what maybe some top celebrities are doing? Or like to join the rave? What I'm saying is, I think for men, to be honest, I believe that for men, they can pull it off. Because there are few options. And just get this one. Few options. Exactly. Like, start there. Start there. Get this suit. And then you just get to figure it out from there. So, it's true for me. When I wanted to head back into, okay, yeah, being intentional about all these things, that was the first thing I did. Because I remember the tips we got when I assumed that the first set of shots we did, we just had to bring suits. And that was it. So, I got the suits. I got two different suits. And then I just started mixing it up from there. And then from there, I went, okay, without the suit. And I just started, you know, changing stuff. So, I know for men that fewer options are required. We're talking about that. I agree with that. Yeah. Yeah. So, do you think women really like to follow the trend? So, they don't care about what looks good? For men, if everybody wears a suit right now, there's a level of, you look better automatically. You know what I mean? Ready to be, you know, automatically. But for women, I don't think it's exactly the same. Somebody who wears a gown should look so good. And another lady who wears the exact same gown and is wondering why. Why do you think it's different? They just want to follow the trend. Yeah. Right. Right. Because why do you have to stress? Like, why do you have to go through a lot of stress just to be in the know? I just want to be like, this is what is really, let me be. Let me do it. And at the end, you're right. So, why should I even do it? You know what I mean? I have other options to go for. Like, I have other things in the end that would have looked so great on me. But, I mean, you need to do better. Okay. I like to personalize it better. And then, I mean, not just for me. I mean, for you guys as well. So, I'm going to start from the top. So, what's your style? My style? Okay. My style is looking good. When I say looking good, I'm looking for your attention. So, looking good. So, on the long run, your style defines who you are, the perception of people, who you are. So, naturally, I'll say looking good, but like corporate, basically. Corporate. You know what I'm saying? So, there's this really big definition of who you are when you're a corporate. This particular quote I really like that you started using lately as you continue to grow in this lifestyle art. I can't really remember. I can't remember. Something around looking good. It's like you look good, you're dressed good, something like that. So, I can't remember the quote exactly. But, yeah. If I remember it, I'll talk about it again. So, yeah. That's your style. So, what's your style? Looking good. And then, I'm getting, I'm falling in love with pants, trousers, shoes, trousers. I don't know. Because I feel it's something that you can combine good with like T-shirts. T-shirts. A lot of things. So, it's just color combination and what you're combining with trousers. So, I think that's the goal. It's simple. To keep it simple. Yeah. So, that and then shoes. Like, look for like, at least I don't like heels. But for pants, heels won't do with every kind of shoes. Yeah. True. T-shirts I'm looking for after that. I think you look for that. I think you're right on that when you say you're looking for that. True. Okay. Okay. That's amazing to hear. All right. So, I have another provocative question to ask. So, I've got, I'm a scientist. I, whether I like to admit it or not. So, yes. I started looking at these bodies. I mean, actual bodies or dresses and how they stimulate our thoughts. In terms of confidence. In terms of how other people perceive us. And so, I would say something very important here. That the way you dress, how you perceive. Yeah. I think there's another thing you say very seldomly. I really, I like it. And I'm trying to maybe use some of those things into my life right now. Which is perception and reality. And although I initially had a very, very opposing mindset about it. I started reading something recently and I see God. That studies actually do say that people will continue to hold on to that perception. Over certain facts that you present to them. It's weird. It's crazy. But that's what it is. So, since it's that way. And then we know that the way we dress actually gives certain perception to other people. So, there was a study. And this study has been done since the 1980s. And apparently, in 2023, that study is still very valid. This is based on research. I actually did check this out. And this study was actually about how men dress and its effect on men. So, this is an example of the study. They brought a couple of female athletes in their athletic attire. Maybe the shorts, whatever. But they were dressed in their athletic uniforms. And then they presented these ladies to 100 other women. College women. And then they showed 50 of them. They were dressed in their athletic attire. What do you think about these women? And then they were like, oh, she's confident, she's strong, she's this, that. So many amazing qualities. Oh, she's smart. She probably does not have a home. In terms of like, oh, because she's a career woman and things like that. That's a summary of what they perceived about this particular woman. And then they gave the other 50 college women the same exact ladies, but in an applicative attire this time. Like they were wearing skimpy dresses. But there's something I want us to take note of here. When you're wearing your athletic uniform, almost the exact same part of the body that is exposed is very similar to the part of the body that would be exposed when you're wearing a provocative dress. And they gave the other 50 women these female athletes in a provocative dress. And then you should hear the comments. Of course, there were comments like, oh, she's so pretty, she's attractive. And then there were comments like, oh, she's probably very sexually active. Or this person probably would not keep her home or would have extramarital affairs. Those were the kind of comments in summary that they gave. So I'm saying it's specific to women because by the time the same test was done on men with the same scenario, the result was the same in the sense that the women, the college men this time around, the college men said, oh, yeah, this man is strong, this, this, this, that. And then they brought the same man wearing something casual. And I'm like, yeah, I mean, there was not much difference between the perception of what they thought about these two different men. But the only difference was when they showed the same men to women, women felt, oh, the only thing that women differentiated was, oh, this guy's probably rich and this guy's probably not rich. Let me begin. This study was done in 1984. And most of you hear this particular study that I've just shared. I don't know what the reaction will be. But the studies that have been done this year, they relate back to that. And they are confirming that it is still there, it's still the same. So I'm going to ask you this in terms of women. What do you think now in terms of that study? And I'm going to ask you in terms of men. But I'd like to go first. What do you think about that study and what do you think now? How do you see women and how do they speak to you? And then I'd also like if you can tell me what's the best way you see your woman in. So let's start from the study. What do you think about ladies and how do you perceive women based on their attire? Okay, I kind of have this notion, though, and I'll be sure, what's going on for you, and I'll be sure. Me being a fashion person, I kind of think if you're showing up like this, something is literally happening. And yes, it really catches my attention to show up looking proper as a lady. Show up in your bra, your hair, looking in a nice shape. Don't come at me wearing brown hair and flip flops and wearing anything to get my attention. I wouldn't do that. I would have to think twice and check my time if I have enough to share with you at that point. But trust me, if you are looking so corporate, I literally would take off my wristwatch to attend to you so I don't want to waste my time. But there's not much I can do. You see, is there this perception, to bring up perception to a woman how to show up? Because it's not that it speaks well of you. Like you have a thing going on for you, you show up looking all nice, so nice, and then looking corporate. Not really corporate, corporate, casual corporate too. But different from, with the same, you know, study you shared about putting the athletic thing together and you just show up like, oh, pick me up, let's go to the bathroom. It's a whole different ballgame. So it has influence on how you just show up. So I would put that there, like that. Interesting, amazing. Yeah. So Chika, I'll ask you, what do you think about the Patrick government? Do you think you would be the best OECD man? You'd most likely judge based on his looks, how influential, wealthy, or you know, the kind of persona, the kind of persona he has. Okay. I'm not sure I'm going to judge based on wealth or wealth. I mean, if you're dressing, please, if you're dressed, you need to dress. So for instance, I mean, you're going somewhere, probably an occasion, and you're sitting on shore. Yeah. Why are you sitting on shore? I mean, I like guys on shore, but for this occasion, for this event, why are you sitting on shore? It's a tunnel, and it's not going to say, it's not passing the message of wealthy or not, because I mean, they're expensive shores, but you're talking to them, so you can think about where you're coming to and how people are going to interact with you. I feel like dressing, like I said, requires mental preparation. So if you just wake up one day, like just wash out of your house, go in somewhere, look in, somehow. I mean, it's probably going to give you the attention that you need to have. And I remember, I think you're one of many global groups, like dress, let your dressing be your card. Just that when they see you, they're going to attend to you, regardless if you're with your company's card or not. The way you are dressed, it's going to give them the attention that you think you deserve. So that's very important. I like that line, you dress to make sure you get what you deserve. So if you want to walk into somewhere, you're going to give a millionaire a dress like you deserve. Maybe you're not a millionaire yet. I think it's going to give them the idea that this will give you the money to do what you chose to dress up with. I don't think you're in the right place. Well, again, this has been super, super interesting. I think very key takeaways that I'm going to take from here is that people need to know their style, whether it's ladies or females. Generally, I don't think that it's a very huge divide, honestly, between men and women. I think what we've been able to establish is that, truly, men have fewer items. I think it gets easier to combine them. Even when you repeat them, it still looks really, really good. You still rock it. I think our things of record, too, where I was saying, I was watching this particular guy who says, for 16 items in your wardrobe, that should be enough. You create a wardrobe out of just 16 items. I don't think ladies can do that. We have five wardrobes and two not ready for any occasion. Two not prepared. For instance, I used to have too many things. When I was coming to this section, I knew there were too many clothes that I wasn't going to wear. So, what he said is what I'm going to wear. I'm just going to change the styling and the color combination. I think it really is the same thing. If you have the same clothes, you can make something out of it. It just has to be the same. There are different ways. The fashion, the style that we see, it was just somebody randomly coming up like, this thing will look great. Then we wear it and take a picture and say, okay, it's nice. It's the same thing. We can do that. Just randomly pick up something, combine it. And to see. You can. Maybe you have a signature style out there. Amazing. I'm going to close off this particular. This was the last comment I got when I made this post on Tuesday. Okay, I'm not discussing that. Okay, and then this person says that women and the way they dress, even if one man's jeans can't close them for 15 days. Do I think it's true? I think it's true. I think that three degrees is true. That men's wear is actually way more expensive than women's wear. No. Okay, it says three degrees. What do you admire the most about men's fashion? Shirt. Clothes. Clothes. And your gowns cost how much? Please. Oh, thank you. The gown. The gown is expensive. That's all. You're off. Nobody really. Just my shirt.
