The host discusses triggers and how they can cause emotional reactions. They explain that triggers can come from people, places, or things, and sometimes it feels like others purposely push our buttons. The host encourages listeners to think about how they can control their own emotions and reactions to triggers. They admit that it's difficult to nullify triggers and not let them affect us. They emphasize the importance of realizing that we are in control of our own actions and attitudes. The host concludes by encouraging listeners to reflect on how they can change their reactions to triggers and regain control. This is Open-Minded, and I'm your host, Papa Silk. We're going to talk today about triggers. Triggers, you say? What do you mean, triggers? I get so upset when... I get so mad when... I just don't understand when... And it's something that somebody does, or something that somebody says, or something that happens, that triggers you. And it almost makes you feel like that certain people, certain places, certain things, triggers certain emotions, certain feelings within ourselves. And we always feel like, or sometimes we feel like that some things, some people, purposely push buttons to trigger a reaction. Let's just be honest. When those things happen, and we get triggered, oh, we blow up. We have a quick response. We have a negative impact on whatever situation or conversation that may be taking place at that moment because we were triggered. Now, the main thing to think about is, how can we control our own emotions, our own thought process, our own reactions to these triggers? And if somebody is speaking from personal experience, it's hard. Oh my goodness, it is hard, it's hard, it's hard. Because we don't look at our own reaction, we look at what's triggering the response that we give. And if we learn to control our own response, our own actions, we can nullify those triggers. But it's really, really hard to do. It's to nullify a trigger. To not allow a certain person or a certain place or a certain thing to trigger to get a reaction out of us. And it's said easier said than done. Yes, I would have to totally agree with that. It's easier to say that I won't allow this thing to trigger me, I won't allow this person to trigger me, I won't allow this thing to trigger me. Sorry about that. But then, the trigger happens. And everything that we thought we were going to do, what we said we were going to do, and how we were going to react to it, goes out the window. Front door, back door, through the roof. That's not what we planned to do, even though we've told ourselves that next time this happens I'm going to take control, I'm going to not let this trigger a bad reaction, a negative reaction out of me. Then the trigger happens. And then we go back to being that person that is affected by that trigger. And the only reason why I'm overusing the word trigger is because we have to come to a point and realize that there's more than one trigger out there within our own lives. Starting today, starting at this very moment, we have to realize and understand that we are in control of our own mouths, our own spirits, our own attitudes, and we're not going to allow, and we're going to definitely work on not allowing triggers to trigger a negative response, a negative attitude, a negative feeling. Because we are in control. And when you gain that control, the better off we're going to be. So that's something that's just something to think about. How can we? When you look in the mirror and you say, how can I change my reaction, my response, my attitude to these triggers? I'm going to tell you good luck with that. I believe in you. I believe in me. In the end, we're going to be happy. Because triggers do not take, will not take, cannot take control over me ever again. And again, that is just something to think about. On this episode of Open Minded, have yourself a good day, a good morning, good afternoon, good night. I am Papa Silk.
