One of Chopin's most popular Nocturnes. The opening features a simple, but beautiful melody that includes wide, graceful leaps in the right hand. This melody is heard 4 times throughout the piece, and, upon each reoccurrence, it is varied by increasingly complex ornamentation. An equally lovely, contrasting theme is heard twice during the piece. The Nocturne's pensive tone becomes suddenly passionate near the end, culminating with a striking right-hand sequence leading to a calm, quiet ending.
