The friends discuss various topics from their elementary school days, including books they read, their experiences in physical education class, school stores, and their responsibilities as students. They also talk about vocab and spelling tests, reading logs, and the transition to high school. Hi everyone, welcome back to another episode of Phyllis T. We are so beyond excited because we have planned so much topic to talk about. And this is Walking Down Beverly Lane. We have spent, I don't know, could you not, like an hour making a list of things that happened in our campus. We're only gonna do five minutes. We were so excited for this. We were. Why? It's exactly five minutes. It felt like five minutes because of how exciting and how fun it was. All right, we'll be talking about things that are from our past in school. I'm like, yeah, I thought of it. Yeah. Like, I think I'll go with Beverly Lane. If you were born during 2008. 2007. Yeah, 2008, like 2000, really, like, feel anything. Ah, I don't know about that. No, but do you guys remember, like, the books, like, Judy B. Jones and stuff? No, yeah. Oh my God. That was like the only high ready level I was. And, like, Fancy Nancy. I've never read Fancy Nancy. Really? No. Oh my gosh, and Pete the Cat. I remember reading that, like, for free. Yes, that's like the cat. David, no! I still have those books. Yeah, when I went through your schmuck book. Can you believe they banned those books? Because I had 3, didn't I? No, but I thought, like, wasn't Toys R Us banned too? Yes, it was. Why? Justice was no longer. Why? Justice is a thing. It is a thing, still, but it is in Walmart now. And I'm sorry, but Justice is really expensive. So how can they shut down that store? I lived off Justice. I was raised on Justice. Yeah, she was the one who introduced me to Justice. And I don't know how I got out of the phase, but I did. So, thank God, because I was scared. No, I'm definitely not scared. I still have my mermaid tail blanket. The whole choker thing, like the thing that you wear. The choker thing! Yes! I had a choker phase. I did too, but I was allergic to it, so I don't have a rash, you know what I mean? It was horrible. I don't feel like I'm from Skid Row. Anyways, let's go into, I say we start with our school. No, wait. Yes, get to school. Let's go with PE and the scooters. Matt, you always say you're good at it. I ran over my fingers telling you guys. We're going to Foursquare. Yes, oh my God. And the little tip thing, like the tip. The count thing, like it had like the numbers, yeah. Hopscotch. Is that what it's called? Yes, Hopscotch. Hopscotch. Yes. I didn't ever go to PE. I just went to PE and it was so much. I love Foursquare. That was like, I love Foursquare. It was perfect. I always wanted to be like the queen stuff and like be in the first one. Of course you did. Oh my God. What about the hula hoop thing where you like jump through the hula hoop and stuff and play rock, paper, scissors? What about, what about you? It was like a hula hoop. What do you guys have to talk about? You guys know like when you just lose a clue, you make a tower out of it and you play dodgeball and it's like rock, paper, scissors. I don't know if you guys had it at your school, but like at my elementary school, we had like a rock climbing wall. Mm-hmm. Yeah. No. I love that rock wall. Oh my gosh. The pacer chest. Do you guys remember the pacer chest? That was my death. Y'all, I was top one of three classes, boys and girls, in a push-up. Yes. I still can't do push-ups. No, I would never do, so in PE, like before we would start doing whatever we wanted to do, like they would make us do like warm-ups, right? I would never do those. Oh my gosh, the warm-ups. Like if they, if they, Don't you think that's still like Heidi's butt cakes Push-ups, when they made us do 10 push-ups, I didn't do nothing. I remember, I like, no, I remember like the pacer chest, like the running pacer chest, but I don't like anything else. Yeah, context, Megan is a runner. She runs all year round. She was to the 5.33 run. Her legs run around the track. I asked her to do it from a meet just for us, so. Yeah, she committed to, from a meet. She's committed. She is a runner. She's a little runner. Yeah, so PE was one of our like, so like in elementary, you would have like for the first half of school, whatever, you'd have PE, and then you'd have art class. We call it special areas. Oh yeah, we call it special areas. Yeah, we call it a special area. So we'd have like PE, and then we'd have art, and then we'd have a little round thing, yeah. We'd have a little round. Did anybody else in your elementary do like that parachute thing with the entire class? Oh my gosh, that was my favorite. Oh my gosh. That was my favorite. No. Wait, have you guys seen that thing where they would take all the seniors of the school, and they would go back to the elementary school, and they would do that parachute thing? No, in the program, we have to. Did anybody else in like elementary, like they would have the seniors walk the hallway, and we all have to get up. That's the thing. I want to walk the halls of the seniors. I'm so excited to do that. I know. But like all the teachers that were at my school, they're like amazing now. I know. And they're old. No, they're not. They're just going to another school. No, some of them are, aren't they? Um. Girl. Mm. Mm. Mm. Um, oh my God, I was going to school. Did you guys have like a school store? Yes, or like a scholastic book fair. No, no, that's a different thing. Oh. We did have a book fair. But like, we also had an actual physical school store that you could go to before class in the morning. Really? I never had that. No, we did have that. No, we did have that. We did. I just never went to the school store. It was in the front office. Mm-hmm. Yeah, the slur took over. Oh. You're going to flip out. I'm not going to flip. What are you doing? No, but we had a school store, and they would sell those stretchy, stretchy. Stretches. Stretches. Stretches. The stretchy erasers is what I'm saying. Oh. Or what about the scented pencils? Pencils? The stencils. Oh, the stencils. I was like, yo, can I have a three-letter pencil? And my teacher would always be mad at me. And I'm like, I'm going to have to move my card down because I never had one. I want this chart. I'm like, what? Those charts, ah, those are great. I know, I had to move my card down maybe like seven times before class. Oh my god. Oh my god. Seven times? Because I laughed so hard and I sniffed chocolate. Oh man, I felt like such a kid. Do you guys remember when we had like jobs? Like line readers, door holder. I always liked being a line reader. Okay, I don't know about y'all, but like I had, I think we had a stay in line for like ever in elementary school. And they're like teaching us this like behavior. And then we go into high school and it's like, what happened to our lives? I can't get through. Girl, you can get middle school, but yes. It was so different. I feel like every kid hated being the door closer, door at the end of the line. I don't know, I was like everything was out of order. I just didn't want to be the, I just didn't want to be the line reader. Because like, for me, my teachers, they would like yell if you moved too far ahead of where you were supposed to go. So I hated being line reader. Yeah, I could have never figured it out. I'm not going to make a wrong mistake because I have to race to the left. Like, I've been doing this for two years. No, you don't have to go back. It's when you are like the line reader, and then you keep going, and you realize the teacher's only talking. So you're walking down the hall, and then everyone else is stopping without telling you anything. So you turn around and you're like, I don't know how to play. So, I had one job in my class was like the teacher's assistant when there was a sub. So giving the attendance to the attendance clerk when there was like, teacher was out. And that was a good responsibility, but now it's like, You're annoying. Well, I gotta get out of class. I'm going to get out of the attendance. No, do you guys ever have like vocab tests and spelling tests? Oh my God. And I read it. I don't know if you guys have ever read it, but that was like, No. Like in my elementary classes, like if you did a certain, if you got a certain amount of stars or points, like you'd get like a prize or something like that. We'd always have things like for, I'm ready to like, you would get your IELTS level, and then you'd go to the library. You'd find a book like, Genevieve Jennings does a Treehouse book series, and you'd read that book and you would see other kids that have higher IELTS levels than you. And so you want to count yourself and read that. To me, it was my identify, higher I read level of reading. And it was like, so shameful for me. So I'd always try to read books instead of take books that they're reading. And then I never read it, but I told my teacher I did. And she looked down on me so much about it. So she made me thumb it up and I couldn't thumb it up. That kind of same thing happened to me. Like in third grade, I thought over winter break, we were going to take a book. And my teacher was like, okay, I'm going to write this book. I think the book sounds way too high for my level. Or like, it was too long for me. And I wanted- It was so big. No, it was something else. It was that one and something else. And I was like, I obviously didn't read it over winter break, but like I thought I was going to. And then like four weeks later, I was like, I'm sorry, but I'm sorry. I can't read the book. And she was like, it's okay. And then she made me like take like a lower, lower book. Oh wow. Well, like she had to do that because I was in my class during that time. We would pick out a book. I would never read a book. I'd pick out a book that I already read like in second grade or something. And then I would say I read it because I knew what it was about. What I actually read. Do you guys remember those reading logs where you would have to like read a book? Book report? No, no, no, reading logs. And you would have to write down all the books you read or whatever. And I'm a reader now, I love reading, but back then, I hated reading. I would just let it hang out in the bathroom. I would be like, I'm sorry, I don't read books anymore. No, but did you guys have laptops in elementary school? No. Oh wait, yeah. No, like the computer laptop. The computer. Oh yeah, the computer. Like not laptops, but actually computers like desktops. Oh yeah, I think. No, we also had laptops. It was like the white one. Yeah, the white one. In the car. Oh yeah, yeah, yeah. I remember we used to like, when we had free time, we used to like A, B, C, D, F and stuff. Who cares? What about the mouse? The mouse? Papa's Frigeria. I love Papa's Frigeria. Wait, wait, wait, what was the thing you eat with a mouse and wait, what is that? I don't know. A, B, C, D, F. Yes! Oh my God, I love that. Yeah, anybody else who's like, you know like there would be like a competition between all the classes, like whichever class like earned the most like. Box tabs or something like that. Or like, they would have like. Box tabs. Box tabs. And like, you know like if they read like, whatever class, like students read the most books, they would have like a party and movies and stuff. And like. Pizza party. Pizza parties, like they would have like Scooby-Doo snacks and stuff like that. No, but the pizza parties, Papa had the pizza with always a stethometer. Like, it was the funniest thing ever. You know what it was? He had the Easy-Bake Oven. Oh my gosh, I never got those. And my mom never let me have them. I had an Easy-Bake Oven and then I, I liked doing it, but it always just turned out so bad. But yours were not, they were totally against it. They're like, if you want an Easy-Bake Oven, you can go cook dinner. Yes, mine did not let me get it. Do you have something else you want to get? Closed Mermaid Tales for the pool? Mm-hmm. Oh my gosh, I don't have any. And the Closed Mermaid Tales, like. Yes, they don't. Oh my gosh, I'm so sorry. It's okay, it's true. What about, what about Shopkins and like, Little Miss Pets? Those are banned now. Y'all want some Shopkins? I have it in my garage. Not banned, I think they don't sell them anymore. Really? Yeah. No, I don't know. That's crazy. Okay, clearly this girl lives in Milwaukee. Let's all talk about the era that we went through. Prime era. Oh my gosh. No, no, you guys do not understand. I love slime so much. I make it like, every day. I actually got slime stuck in my sister's hair one time. Poor Emily! It was really bad, but like, I got, and I was making my parents' hair, so like, I got it. Oh, I got all of this, too, one time. And I was making slime, and it was cold out, so like, mine was not even working with the temperature, and we did this magic solution with the Elmer's kit. Yeah, yeah, yeah. It was like a shortage of glue everywhere, so you know what, you would use like, soap and cornstarch to make soap. Oh my god, stop. Do you remember, sorry, do you remember the, where you would like, look up, I don't know if you guys know this, but, glue-less slime. Like, no borax, no glue, no shampoo, you didn't have to be in the shop. You didn't have to be in the shop. You didn't have to be in the shop at home. That's why I said it, just soak in the cornstarch. No, because I tried that one time during quarantine, and like, I put it in the freezer, because that's what it's said to do, and it barely worked. No, it worked for me. Me and my brother made it by ourselves. But anybody like, ever, like, I don't know, I feel like y'all's parents like, got weirded out when you were, when you asked to buy contact solution, or like, shaving cream or shaving foam. No, I just never did. I wasn't allowed to make slime in my house, I would say. It was banned. Really? I convinced my parents I wanted to buy it, and then I got it banned by the end of the year. Yeah, because you have to never, you have to throw away a whole table to get something. You have to, a whole table? It's free. No, do you guys remember like, Oobleck? It's like, with cornstarch and margarine in it. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. It's so weird. And you made that in only two days. Yeah, I know. It was like, two days. Oh my gosh. We've all done that experience. Please, please. We've all done that. Would you have never done it before? It's like, the few days, kind of just like. You did, it was like, some weird solution. It was like, it was like a science experience. Yeah, it was like a squirt. What's that called, that pops? Coke, and like, Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. You chose where it would explode? Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. We did that in school one time. Yeah. Oh my gosh, do you guys remember Squishies, too? I don't know Squishies. Squishies? Squishmallows. Squishies. Like, I had a whole Squishies collection. Oh, no, I didn't. No, I just had like, an insane Shopkins collection. Yes, I had boxes and boxes of Shopkins. I had so many Squishies. I get like, gave them away, obviously, when I stopped playing with them. Oh, I still have them. Oh, no, I still have them. Oh, my gosh, oh, my gosh, oh, my gosh, oh, my gosh, oh, my gosh. Do you guys have American Robots? No, too expensive. I have two, and I love it. I have the other two. As a foreign, I just thought it was necessary for me to be an American. Oh, my gosh, me too. No, no, I had two American Robots, and my sister, no, actually, it was my like, second American, my very first American robot, I think. And I was like, oh, I want to see this hair. So I put it, I like, washed the hair, and then it got all tangled and gross, and it's still probably like that. And then my dog, Bailey, she got through the doll and ate the doll. Oh, my gosh, oh, my gosh, oh, my gosh, I remember I was eating a Barbie doll of mine with the Monster High dolls. I came home one day, and I remember this very, very vividly. Very vividly. Because this was when I was in Ohio, and I had my dog, and we come home to the door, and there was a Barbie's head in its mouth. Oh, my gosh, did anybody, like, okay, did anybody, okay, so as a kid, I never knew that the Barbies, like, if it was like a Barbie doll, or like American Girl dolls, or like Monster High, like, their hair was fake, it was plastic. I would try, as a kid, I didn't know that. Like, I tried to straighten her hair, kind of let in a burn, and her hair fell out. So, there was a Barbie doll that you could style it, and you could try painting it, like, pink, and stuff, and those Barbies, I'm not sure if they're still around, but those were really cool. That reminded me, did you guys have the, did you guys have this, like, oh, it's like hair, not extensions, but like colored hair? It was so weird, it was like a little heart clip. Like, you would clip it in your hair. Or those earrings, like, oh, hold on. Oh, yeah. Or the piercing, oh. I don't know about you, but I love piercings. No, not you. I know, absolutely. Not, like, I think they were pierced, like, I know what you're talking about, like, I think they made, like, clip-ons, you know? Like, clip rings, too, I think. Why would you clip a ring? No, like, not because, like. It went, like, a triangle. No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no. It's like a plastic set. Like, it doesn't attach all the way around, I never tried it, but it's like a C. Because that way, all the kids should wear it. It's even a plastic. Well, because, like, as a toddler, I was so adorable, and my mom, my mom had a nose piercing, but she would always put the clip-ons through, like, following her. And so, I would see them in her room, and I'd be like, ooh, let's be a rebel today. Let's put them on my nose. Come on. When I was a kid, I had so many Barbies, like, lots of high dolls and stuff. I was, like, really nurturing, so when I had my baby brother, I would change his diapers and all of it. So definitely my childhood, my toys, whatever, would definitely seem more nurturing. I don't know about you guys, like, you guys are doing that, and I was watching YouTube and stuff, and you want to take, like, Brett Rivera and, like, Chris Rippon? Oh. I don't know. That is a ballgame, too. I know. Oh! Like, literally, you know, Lele, tell me more about Lele. Lele porn, yes! I love her, too! Did you guys, like, did you make your own YouTube channel? Yeah, I did. Oh, you made your own one? I used to make, like, fake videos on my phone and keep them. Makeup tutorials. Makeup tutorials. Like, fake challenges. Hide and seek. Guys would go hide, and... Oh, my God, I still have those videos. Wait for me! My mother would always watch me. I would never be... Oh. You know how, like, there's, like, get ready with me, get ready with me now? Maybe. Get ready with me. Five minutes past. A while ago, when I... Like, I would be, like... My mom would always buy... I would... Not my mom. I was always dying to buy fake makeup, and, like, the store. And I would be, like, hi guys, welcome to my YouTube channel. My YouTube tutorial is how to do makeup with this collection. And I would put on the fake lipstick and nothing would come off. Do you guys ever, like, lip smackers and stuff like that? Yes. I'm so happy. You know how, like, princess lip smackers are a little bit... Like, I have the troll one. Okay, that's fine. Girl! Girl! Do you guys have a little cartoon band-aid? No! Do you guys still have the session where you talk to that silver troll? No! Guy-gland. Guy-gland. Guy-gland is the superior. Exactly! So I have all the band-aids you can get. You're a model, you've got a guy-gland. Yeah. Yeah. That's so rude. That's so rude. Thank you. Don't worry, guys. Don't worry, guys. It's like, it's used to me being me. I don't know. Anyway. Do you guys have five-minute crafts and stuff like these? Oh, yeah. No! I'm strongly against five-minute crafts. I would always swallow my face if something wouldn't come out weird. I didn't ever really watch five-minute crafts. I watched Troom Troom. Yeah! You did what? Troom Troom? Do you know what they do? Yeah, I've seen it. I've used to, like, do what they do in their videos and stuff, and it wouldn't turn out, like, speaking food into class and stuff. You know. And it would take me, like, 40 minutes just to make the whole little thing. Okay, well, that's not about me. I'm just kidding. Oh! No, I thought musically, like, the month it turned into TikTok, so I didn't even, I didn't even see it. No, I hadn't seen it. I would be like, I would be like, I would be like, I would be like, I would be like, I would be like, I would be like, I would be like, I would be like, I would be like, I would be like, I would be like, I would be like, I would be like, I would be like, I would be like, I would be like, I would be like, I would be like, I would be like, I would be like, I would be like, I would be like, I would be like, I would be like, I would be like, I would be like, I would be like, I would be like, I would be like, I would be like, I would be like, I would be like, I would be like, I would be like, I would be like, I would be like, I would be like, I would be like, I would be like, I would be like, I would be like, I would be like, I would be like, I would be like, I would be like, I would be like, I would be like, I would be like, I would be like, I would be like, I would be like, I would be like, I would be like, I would be like, I would be like, I would be like, I would be like, I would be like, I would be like, I would be like, I would be like, I would be like, I would be like, I would be like, I would be like, I would be like, I would be like, I would be like, I would be like, I would be like, I would be like, I would be like, I would be like, I would be like, I would be like, I would be like, I would be like, I would be like, I would be like, I would be like, I would be like, I would be like, I would be like, I would be like, I would be like, I would be like, I would be like, I would be like, I would be like, I would be like, I would be like, I would be like, I would be like, I would be like, I would be like, I would be like, I would be like, I would be like, I would be like, I would be like, I would be like, I would be like, I would be like, I would be like, I would be like, I would be like, I would be like, I would be like, I would be like, I would be like, I would be like, I would be like, I would be like, I would be like, I would be like, I would be like, I would be like, I would be like, I would be like, I would be like, I would be like, I would be like, I would be like, I would be like, I would be like, I would be like, I would be like, I would be like, I would be like, I would be like, I would be like, I would be like, I would be like, I would be like, I would be like, I would be like, I would be like, I would be like, I would be like, I would be like, I would be like, I would be like, I would be like, I would be like, I would be like, I would be like, I would be like, I would be like, I would be like, I would be like, I would be like, I would be like, I would be like, I would be like, I would be like, I would be like, I would be like, I would be like, I would be like, I would be like, I would be like, I would be like, I would be like, I would be like, I would be like, I would be like, I would be like, I would be like, I would be like, I would be like, I would be like, I would be like, I would be like, I would be like, I would be like, I would be like, I would be like, I would be like, I would be like, I would be like, I would be like, I would be like, I would be like, I would be like, I would be like, Okay. Graphic. I just saw something pop up on my screen, of those little colored pens that have different ink colors. And you know, I was like, oh my god! You would always try to push it down at the same time to get all of them out, but obviously it would never work because that's impossible. Was it just the letters? She was like, you didn't choose the pen though. I, cause you, how about, like, over weekends, did you guys do lemonade stands? No. I did those, oh. I hope you didn't need a permit. No, I had lemonade stands. Actually, Olivia and I did one, and we like, we ran to public, walked and ran to public, cause my dad got lemonade powder stuff, brought it back to the house, and he made it. Well, okay. And then I had like four lemonade stands, and it did start. I always wanted one, no, you know, I wanted to have a macaroon stand, because that was weird. Oh. And, and that worked. Oh, are you a fun show? Yeah, we, we were in our business as a kid, we had a lemonade stand, with gel pens, I would go during recess, and I would give kids like tattoos, and I would burn it on their hands, but I would put hairspray over it, so that way it'd be more clever, and they'd pay like a dollar for it. I know, thinking of, now that you said the word cool, I don't, I like what you said, recess, did anybody, elementary school, have like, okay, obviously every elementary had a playground, right? But, did jurors have like a little stand bar, where you could like, do flips on them and stuff? And, do you mean monkey bars? Yes, yes. Monkey bars? Pole bars. Pole bars? And did everybody like, flip over them and stuff? Yeah. I actually have a girlfriend, I'm a higher one here, so. Mine didn't really happen, but like, we, we made, we found out how to do flips. We made, we found out how to do flips. Well, in like, fifth and fifth grade, I think it was mostly fifth grade, but like, we would play like kickball, every single day. Yes. No, kickball, and like, but I liked kickball, but, I mean, doing the, the one mile run, like, I kind of liked that. No, during recess, my time spent, my time spent at recess, was in a library, helping a librarian, and they had candy for it, I don't know if you were a kid, or, practicing for the talent show. Oh my god. Did you go to the talent show? Well, I was going to, we tried so hard. I was too, and we, we don't talk about it. Oh my god, that was terrible. No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no,
