The Architectural Design Competitive Event for Georgia TSA requires participants to convert a Sears and Roebuck kit barn into a functional three-bedroom home. The design should include an eat-in kitchen, master suite, additional bedrooms, household bathrooms, mechanical spaces, and a living/play area. Alternative energy systems and building materials can be used but are not required. Designs must be turned in on an 18x24 display board, including a demolition plan, utility and mechanical system locations, difficulties encountered, revised floor plan, and elevation views. Questions can be directed to the event coordinator or Steve Price at Georgia TSA. The event will take place at Tech Day at the Fair in October. Hey, Georgia TSA, this is Stevie G from the Georgia TSA Board of Directors. Welcome to another episode of What is the Theme for my Tech Day Competitive Event. Today's episode is a walkthrough for the Architectural Design Competitive Event. As always, due to the abbreviated time available to create your designs, no physical model is required for this event. This is an early turn-in event to be turned in at our core conference in September and be judged that weekend, then placed on display at the fair for its duration. This year's challenge is to renovate a Sears and Roebuck 30x40 kit barn into a barn dominium. Now for those of you that may have missed it, the term barn dominium typically refers to large, open-concept buildings that have both living quarters and a garage or workshop. A link to the existing floor plan is included in the rules posted on the Georgia TSA website. Your job is to convert an existing dairy barn floor plan into a functional three-bedroom home with an eat-in kitchen, master suite with closets and bathroom, two additional bedrooms, and at least one household bathroom, mechanical space or spaces for heating, air conditioning, and hot water heater, and a living slash play area. Now let's talk about that living and play area. The idea here is to have all the activities you and your family enjoy under one roof, so it's not just about having a garage for a living room. Do you want to include a gaming area? Where will you put the racing simulator? Where can you hang a dart board where people will not walk in front of you while throwing darts? Are you going to include a vehicle lift? These are all important considerations in your design process. Use of alternative energy systems and building materials is encouraged, although not required. Your design is to be turned in on a standard 18x24 display board. Your display must include a written explanation of your demolition plan, a written explanation of where utilities and mechanical systems will be located outside the structure, for example, the air conditioning condensing units, a brief narrative explaining the difficulties encountered in your design, a revised floor plan, and elevation views with an isometric view of the finished barn dominion. Drawings are to be no larger than 11x17. As always, if you have questions about this event, have your advisor reach out to the event coordinator listed on the rules or Steve Price at Georgia TSA. I hope this podcast has been helpful, and I look forward to seeing you all at Tech Day at the Fair in October. Have a great day.
