June 25 Built on the Rock

In his Sermon on the Mount, Jesus describes the importance of building our lives on a solid foundation. He compares those who follow his teachings and put them into practice to a wise man who builds his house on a rock, which withstands the storms. However, those who hear his teachings but do not follow them are like a foolish man who builds his house on sand, and it falls when the storms come. Jesus is emphasizing the need to build our lives on him and his word, as they provide stability and strength in the face of trials. The speaker encourages listeners to build their lives on Jesus and his teachings. In his Sermon on the Mount, Jesus began by telling us what a Christ-like life should look like. He now closes by giving us a challenge and encouragement to build our life on a solid foundation, as he says, Therefore, whoever hears these sayings of mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock. And the rains descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat on that house, and it did not fall. For it was founded on the rock. But everyone who hears these sayings of mine, and does not do them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand. Here Jesus is not teaching us how to build houses, but homes. As a home built on lust for things of this world seems to always crumble and crash, but a home built on Jesus. And the word of God will withstand the stormy trials of a wicked world. I pray you are building your home on the rock of ages, Jesus Christ, and allowing his word to light your daily path in life.
