old guitar Feels like a long lost friend But I'm right as rain And I've learned every letter in my last day I was raised by some good old boys That felt the same way as we Yeah, they were right as rain Right as rain They were right as rain Right as rain Yeah, they were right as rain Right as rain They were right as rain Believe I'll head on down the road She's made it clear she don't need me no more Lord knows she ain't my first mistake But I think sometimes Living on my feet right as rain And I'm right as rain And I've learned every letter in my last day I was raised by some good old boys That felt the same way as we Yeah, they were right as rain Right as rain Yeah, they were right as rain Right as rain Yeah, they were right as rain Right as rain They were right as rain They were right as rain Lord, they were right as rain They were right as rain Yeah, they were right as rain Yeah, those beat still boys They taught me everything Yeah, they were right as rain Yeah, they were right as as rain Yeah, they were right as rain Yeah, they were right as rain Oh, right as rain Oh, right as rain Oh, right as rain I'm doing great, thanks for having me Oh, well thank you, yeah, I appreciate that Oh, that sounds great Yeah, that's right, I grew up there My whole family is from up there actually And so, in fact, my grandfather He was the longest tenured barber in the state of Texas at one time Yeah, he cut hair there until he was 91 years old Is that right? Yeah, so he's seen a lot of people in Wichita Falls And he passed away back in 2018 But my whole family is from up there You used to visit your grandparents' farmhouse And it was filled with musical instruments it said And that's really what got you started as a youngster You were fascinated with those Yeah, I think that's probably what kind of kicked off my interest in it I mean, there's some pictures of me when I was just a little kid Out in my grandpa's garage He had an old guitar sitting there And I'm trying to plunk around on it, you know But yeah, I mean, he always had instruments laying around I don't know that he ever did anything as far as like Professionally or if he ever played any shows But I mean, he always had like fiddles and banjos and guitars All around, so I know music was a big part of his life too He grew up in the Ozarks in Arkansas And so like, he said that growing up That if you didn't play music or sing That they just thought you were dumb Well, now I'm just north of where he grew up probably I'm in the Ozarks too, in Branson, Missouri So they love country music here I think it's probably number two to Nashville For country music in this town Oh, I think so, yeah And I haven't been up there in a while But I've heard it's changed over the last Probably 20 years since I've been there So I need to get out that way and check it out You're exactly right, we need to get you here I'm also working with the Pierce Arrow Theater this year And doing the Nashville Roadhouse Live show I do my show before they go on stage at 8pm And I'm doing that on Saturdays We would love to see you here You're a great artist and a great entertainer So we'll see if we can't help you out on that Oh, that would be awesome Absolutely You were also served in the military too So thank you for your service You were stationed at Fort Riley, Kansas And I grew up in southeast Kansas In a town called Fort Scott And they had a military fort there too That's the name Fort Scott Back in the Civil War days Yeah, that's right Funny thing, the way I ended up in Fort Riley When I joined the Army They always ask you Where you want to be stationed If you had your choice Well, a lot of people didn't pick anything And so I thought Well, I was kind of I was kind of dating this girl Back in Texas And I thought, well, I want to try to pick the closest place I can To Texas And so Fort Hood And I guess the one in Lawton Oklahoma Or Fort Sill, I guess is the name of it And then Fort Riley I put those in And lo and behold, I got Fort Riley And I guess I'm kind of glad I put that in Because a lot of guys I talked to That didn't choose They ended up in Germany And Korea and stuff like that So it worked out for me But that's kind of the story Of how I ended up in Kansas Thank you for your service Branson is big on Honoring our military and our veterans Every show that I've ever been to There's always a tribute to the veterans Including the one that they do in Pierce Aero Theater On Saturdays Right before intermission They have all the branches of the military stand up And we applaud them So thank you for your service And you were deployed in Iraq during the Iraq War Is that right? Yeah, that's right That was in 2003 I went there about a month after all that stuff started And so When we were there We saw a lot of the devastation As soon as we crossed the border We were seeing A lot of buildings blown up And tanks burned up And all that stuff It was pretty surreal Honestly Showing up there And looking around This is like what I've seen on TV Yeah, it was a little surreal Yeah, and that's been a long time ago And the way the world situation is still going It looks like we might have another war with Iraq You never know It's just gotten crazy Oh, it really has It's a little tense right now Around the world Yes, it is But again, we thank you for your service And it says that your time in the military Is really what helped sharpen your skills As a singer-songwriter I want to hear that story How did being in the military help sharpen your skills And doing what you're doing now? Well, I think what it was We had so much down time Like in basic training and stuff like that We were busy all day long But in the evening time We would be out shining our boots And that sort of thing Every evening And so me and another buddy of mine We would just kind of be sitting around singing And just to pass the time And it just kind of went from there The next thing I knew People were like Hey, let's do another song And basically nobody told me to shut up So I just kept singing And the next thing I know People were asking me to do it more and more And then it kind of progressed from there And once I got over to Fort Riley And had some free time And could actually leave the post It was kind of like They took me to karaoke And so, you know That was the first time I sang Like with music in front of people And stuff like that And then, man, I was hooked after that Yeah, that's awesome And I love it when somebody isn't afraid To perform in front of other folks You know, I sit here behind this microphone In my home studio part-time And then I'm in the lobby down there Pierce Arrow Theater In front of other folks And some of the artists that come in there To perform sit down right beside me And interview So, you know, it's kind of scary at first And you get a little bit nervous But it sounds like you've kind of honed your skills In performing in front of folks too And love it I do love it, yeah I mean, there's nothing like You know, you get the applause from the crowd And I mean, it really gets you going So, I mean, I can see now Why people do it, you know Because of their age, you know I mean, because once you have that in your blood I think it's hard to kind of get rid of Yeah, I hear that all the time from artists And that's why they do it, you know It's really never about the money, you know Hopefully that comes later on And you're able to sustain yourself And we talked off the air that you are doing this full-time So, congratulations there You've done other work Along with being a musician And it was just pretty stressful for you So, we're glad that you can do it full-time And make a living at it Oh, yeah, for sure I mean, that's the goal of, I think Any musician, to be able to do that And make a living Is just amazing So, I mean, I wouldn't trade it for anything And you formed a band So, you guys go out and put on live shows So, let's give a shout-out to your band The members in the band Tell us who they are Yeah, so we go by the Justin Hunter Band We've got Justin Hunter is our bass player He actually is from Cisco, Texas And we have John Barnett Out of Mesquite, Texas As our lead guitar player And we have Breck Von Der Hoye As our drummer And he's out of Sulphur Springs And I always tease him about his name I said, yeah, I don't know You either sound like you should win a Nobel Prize Or you should be a villain in a James Bond movie With a name like Breck Von Der Hoye But I always give him a hard time about that I'm glad you said that I wouldn't have been able to pronounce that properly And that's what he tells me Every time we introduce the band He's like, wow, I can't believe you got my name right None of the other people I've ever played with In my life have ever gotten it right That Texas country music scene Is pretty hot, isn't it? It absolutely is Yeah, when we're fortunate to be Smack dab in the middle of it We're based out of the Fort Worth area And so we're really blessed To be able to be in that area And have so much going on With some of your original songs You have hit the top 100 On the Texas country music charts In the past couple of years And it's pretty neat When you're performing in front of a crowd And they know your original music And they're probably singing along with you That's a pretty cool feeling, isn't it? Oh yeah, I mean, honestly That's what you strive for At least I do I mean, there's no other feeling Than looking out in the crowd And seeing people singing along to your songs I mean, it's kind of what you live for I mean, as a songwriter I guess that's kind of the ultimate thing You're striving for Yeah, absolutely You've got a brand new single Called Long Way from Abilene It says it's also poised for similar success On the Texas country music charts You've got on 15 radio stations Across the country and around the world as well This program is on 3 In Belgium alone, I've got one in Ireland Luxembourg in the UK We're on the only FM station there In a population of 200,000 people So they love country music From the United States But we put it all around the world for you Oh, that's awesome, yeah Well, hello to all the folks worldwide Absolutely I love country music from over here in the United States And Texas has some of the best I get Texas and Canada Probably my two biggest places Getting music right now Oh yeah, I've heard that You know, I hadn't had the opportunity To check out a lot of Canadian artists But I have heard that I mean, it's kind of funny You wouldn't really think that But yeah, apparently They are neighbors to the north They're real big on country music One of the reasons I love doing this show And I've done it for the last 12 years Is because there's been a lot of collaborations And artists, you know, support other artists When they're independent And you songwrite So you may find somebody, even in Canada That you might meet across social media Or across listening to this program That you want to co-write with Or maybe do a duet with A young female or another male artist It doesn't matter There's been a lot of great collaborations And everybody seems to know each other In this indie country music community Yeah, I mean, that's the thing too You've got to always be kind of open To different opportunities And that's the thing You just never know when one of those doors Is going to open And you kind of have to be ready for it And just be open-minded Absolutely, now when you're doing A Justin Hunters Band show What are some of the favorite songs Or some of the covers that we might know Well, as far as karaoke When I first, I still remember The very first song I did in karaoke Was Alan Jackson Gone Country And then Chasing That Neon Rainbow Which I guess was kind of You know, ironic That that was the first song I did But yeah, I mean, he was always One of my big influences And probably one of my favorite artists And I'm sure like a lot of Texans You know, George Strait as well I would say those two guys For sure are probably Like my biggest influences I'm not sure if I'd even be doing this today If it weren't for some of their songs And the impact they had on me Those are some good ones I'll tell you what, George Strait Back in, I think it was 1983 He was asked to perform At the Houston Livestock and Rodeo show Because an artist got sick And couldn't make it That artist ended up being Eddie Rabbit And George Strait took his place And that's basically how he got discovered And now he has 60 number one hits Oh, is it up to 60 now? I can't remember Yeah, he hit 60 And he may get 61 one of these days He's still performing shows every now and then And I see you perform too All over Texas, Oklahoma, New Mexico And Arkansas So congratulations on all of that Oh, thank you And where was your grandpa from in Arkansas? He was from a little bitty town Called Shakila Shakila? Which is close to Dardanelle And he grew up on Magazine Mountain And so I remember hearing a lot of stories And then my granny His mother Was from there too And they grew up there And so I remember hearing a lot of stories About that area And how they grew up And I was always fascinated by it In fact, I wrote a song It's on, I guess about Two or three albums ago now Called Live and Learn And I named the album Live and Learn After that song And it just talks about how As a kid I enjoyed listening to my grandpa's stories And I always thought that Kind of He needed kind of a song And so I wrote that song And I actually played it for him On, I think it was his 85th birthday I played it for him Just live And then we recorded it later And so yeah, that one means a lot to me also That is awesome I enjoy talking to you guys Young artists about these things Another artist I can remember Just off the top of my head Alex Miller, we've interviewed a couple of times He was on American Idol And did quite well And his grandpa, who recently passed away as well Had a big influence on him in the world of country music So it is a really, really neat thing To hear these stories Behind these songs that you guys make Original songs, written about your grandparents Or your parents And it just goes so well With the history of country music And where it came from And how you grew up loving it And Alan Jackson and George Strait Two great artists That you definitely can credit your career to For sure Oh yeah, for sure And I think that's kind of the thing You know, as songwriters Especially in country music I guess we're just storytellers And so it always feels like There's kind of a story left to be told Three chords and the truth Oh yeah, for sure Tell us the story behind your new single Long Way From Abilene And we're going to play it for the folks on the radio Well, I think the story Basically Is kind of funny in the way this song came about I had For probably about a year I had this melody And I never had anything to go with it But it almost seemed like Every time I sat down with my guitar And tried to work on anything I had this melody just going over and over And nothing really ever seemed to fit Until one day I was kind of looking through some notes of some other You know, lyrics and things That I'd written down And I kind of just pieced it together But once I did And I played a few lines of some other things I'd written It all just kind of fell into place And I think the Abilene part of it Came from Because I've spent so much time out there I've recorded all my albums Out there in Abilene So I've been out there a lot And so it just kind of all I don't even know how It just kind of all organically came together And funny thing was We were at a sound check one day At one of our shows And I just started playing this thing And next thing I know the band jumps in And they're playing it along with me And they're like, hey man, I think we may have something here You know And a few folks that were there You know, before the show started Said, hey, what was that song? Can you guys do that tonight? And I was like, well, I guess we can try it So we actually played it live Before we ever had it recorded And so, yeah, when this Time came to do this latest album I thought, well, I've got to record that one That's awesome Now, is that kind of your writing style too? I ask this question a lot Do you have to have the melody in your head first Or do you just have the lyrics And you can do it later on some songs too Well, for me I think I'm more I lean more towards the lyrics first I know certain writers I guess everybody's a little bit different You know, some people have the music in their head But I think for me It's usually kind of easier Just to kind of have the hook And the lyrics kind of going And then putting music to it But there's all different ways I mean, there's no right or wrong way to do it But that's just kind of my style I suppose Now, you don't work full time Doing another job And then doing shows on the side So do you wake up Or does it keep you up at night With a song in your head And you're like, I've got to finish this right now Sometimes Yeah, sometimes And you never know where An idea's going to come up So I've made the habit of keeping Or at least Grabbing my phone And at least talking The lyrics and recording a little bit Just so I'll have it But yeah, I mean, that's the thing You just never know when something's going to Pop in your head And there's even like Digital recorders you can carry around And stuff like that So I think that's just pretty common With writers Is to always have something To carry around if you need to I think so Creative minds don't get a lot of sleep, do they? Well, you know Especially when we just had a baby There's not a lot So yeah He's six months old now So he's sleeping through the night Pretty well But I tell you Especially that first month My wife and I Both look at each other going We were so sleep deprived We hardly remember that first month It was so crazy But you know So yeah, I mean That's been a great Great addition to our family Congratulations Little boy? Yeah, his name is Jackson Yeah So Might be a little bit of Alan Jackson in there I love it A little bit of Wyoming in there But yeah I've got a classic country song About Jackson too It's called Jackson I'm going to Jackson Oh for sure Yeah My buddy Gary West and Leona Williams Who I got to interview Who is from Missouri She was married to Merle Haggard At one time They did a great duet on that song We'll come back and talk to Justin Hunter From the Justin Hunter Band More on this in coming shows AICR Down a two lane highway With no destination in mind With a top down freedom Is all she hopes to find Her life's been tangled Just like her wing-blown hat If one thing can fix She'll find it out there She's a long, long way But never leave A long, long way From you and me Oh Chasing her dreams She's a long, long way From that road She ain't running from no one Just chasing her jazzy soul As long as there's a highway There's no place called home She promised that she'd come back Every chance she gets With her car full of luggage She ain't come back yet She ain't come back yet She's a long, long way But never leave A long, long way From you and me Oh Chasing her dreams She's a long, long way But never leave She's a long, long way But never leave A long, long way From you and me Oh Chasing her dreams She's a long, long way But never leave She's a long, long way A long, long way And that sugar in his cup Ain't the only thing he's stirring up Said you saw my cousin Kelly Get out of someone else's truck She looks tired and she looks wet And her husband gets back to sleep But you didn't hear it from me Drink it up like water Don't you love when a plan comes together And you can't get your fill Things just keep getting taller And runnin' through a mill You know what you do And you will soon Before you even know the truth Every lie you tell Is like poison in the well Worked around to her husband And now he's taking her to court He ain't buying what she's selling Now he's violent for divorce I heard he's taking everything But you didn't hear it from me Well years will tell you half It's not worth you all believe Her car blew out on 30 And she was drenching in that heat Freedom chasing Sunset racing Out there breaking Hearts and horses Hearts and horses Hearts and horses My pleasure I am Oh I didn't know that That's neat It's in the food and the cuisine And when we get on the radio We get to experience that Texas based country music Yeah Texas got a lot of good stuff Absolutely Now you born and raised down there? I wasn't I was actually born in Idaho And raised in Idaho But I have been in Texas for a long time I served a mission for my church down here And then I just live here Most of my adult life What took you from Idaho to Texas? Well the first time I served a mission for my church And so I came down here for a year and a half And did that And then I ended up You know Texas couldn't keep me awake Yeah I was afraid about where to go And this is where we were supposed to be I think so In the world of country music I say it all the time on the radio The two biggest places that send me music In my email are Texas and Canada Canada is pretty hot right now too But Texas country music The country music scene is fantastic It really is It really is It's phenomenal I've talked to a lot of artists In fact I interviewed Jeremy Parsons On the radio here recently And he spent 10 years in Nashville But moved back to Texas And I've talked to a lot of other artists That did that For the furtherance of their career Because maybe of not liking Where the Nashville music scene is going per se And I see a lot of posts about that But Texas country music You know Texas country music Has it's own brand I mean they got that red dirt country And a lot of cool stuff going on And a lot of these Texas country music artists Are making traditional country And that 90's country Is kind of what got me into country radio And that steel guitar and all of that They do it right They do yeah And Texas still has a lot of that flair Whereas Nashville is a little bit It's got a little bit of different flavor And they're both great But Texas still Definitely has more of that root You made a great Christian country album And we're going to play the title track of it As your third song today For the interview And it's called God So Loved the World And I love that scripture in the bible You know it's based on John 3 16 And tell us kind of how that Christian country thing Got started for you Well so I grew up playing All different types of music But I've just been doing country For as long as I've been And it was about two and a half years ago I kind of went to this deep Searching my soul period For about a month and a half Where I just kind of was Considering the direction of my life And everything else And my heart just kept turning To Christian music When I would try to write music The songs were all Christian And it just something Like a light switch slipped inside of me I've always been Christian And my thoughts and my heart All went Christian And so that's where my music Just naturally followed And I guess it was also You know we were I don't know the world It seems like we're going To some crazy times You know things are a little bit darker And there's a lot of controversy And a lot of contention In the world right now And I thought for Christian music I could help bring love To the world And so that is a genre That I've been getting A lot of music from here lately There's a lot of great Country gospel music out there And some of these artists Are really putting out Some good stuff, you included Thank you Absolutely, so I'm excited to play you And excited to meet you For the first time And talk to you on the radio I've known of you for a while So it's finally a pleasure To have you on the program It's honestly my pleasure too Absolutely, now back when You were in Idaho Your family had a band That you were in Called the Dusty Boots Tell us about that And then going out on your own Yeah, so we've got pictures Where literally I'm holding A guitar that's bigger than me So we grew up, I grew up In a musical family Playing in a family band The one that you see At all the fair circuits Which we did fair circus weddings Corporate events The ones that tap dance on stage While playing the guitar Behind their back, that was us So we were an all-girl band Except my dad And then our drummer Who was a girl too She wasn't actually part of our family But we just always said We adopted her Who came up with the name Dusty Boots for the band Was that your dad? I don't even remember Who came up with that name I don't remember I love it though That fits Texas doesn't it It really does The great George Strait Who has 60 number one hits On the world of country music He started out as a team roper And he still likes to do that Cut horses and things like that And then in 1993 At the Houston Livestock and Rodeo show Eddie Rabbit got sick And he was going to perform that night But he couldn't do it So they called George Strait Right off of his ranch And he probably still had those Dusty Boots on And he went and performed that show And that's kind of how he got discovered I did not know that That is so interesting Oh my goodness And recently Cody Johnson From down there in Texas Is an independent For being the first one To sell out that stadium And we know what his career Is going on to be Oh yeah he's amazing You're down there around Some great talent Yeah that's true I really am I feel very blessed And you're a great talent as well And the folks are going to find that out Tonight when we start playing your music Now your name is Stephanie And there's some rednecks out there So how did that name come about? It's actually kind of funny I was growing up on a farm In a really really small town I got a lot of You know I love to play in the mud I love the four wheel drive I love the whole My personality But I love dressing up in heels And trying to look fancy all the time Anyway we were in the studio one day And I had written a song called Rednecky Inside And the song just talks about How we all have a little bit Of redneck inside of us It doesn't matter who you are And while I was singing The producer and my husband Who were in the room Listening while I was singing I could see him just laughing And I was like what the heck Because I'm sitting here Trying to sing a song You know for heaven's sake But anyway so after I finished I went in there And tried to duck around Yeah that's going to be my name And it literally just stuck It just kind of fit And it fit me a lot Because I am a redneck in a lot of ways But I'm also a lady So I don't do the things That a lady would do But I'm also very contrary And do a lot of the redneck things Well you look like a lady The pictures and the videos That I've seen on YouTube You look like a lady You have a redneck personality Probably and you need that Down there where you live Yeah that's true So yeah you don't let Those guys push you around Yeah So yeah and let's talk about Your journey in music now Did you start at a very early age Like most artists And at what point did you think That hey country music I love it And that's what I want to do for a living Tell us about that story Well music wasn't a choice in our family It's just what we did And I loved it but I didn't know That that's what I was going to want to do And so I grew up playing music And then you know after I mentioned I went on a mission And when I got back I went to college And did a couple other things And actually started a business That was like inside There was this voice always saying That I was missing out Like I just knew it was like music You're not doing what you're supposed to do God wants you to do something different And so I quit that as soon as I could And I just In 2016 I started Putting out my own stuff You know it's really scary to be I'd always done covers And done songs my dad had written But to actually put out my own stuff That was a whole different story So Love Me Baby was the first song That I released And that kind of just picked it off for me And I guess the reason Is because I like my personality More than the other genres I like the simple things in life And I'm just My roots, my ancestors, my family My freedom You know just kind of all fit along At the time with my belief system Absolutely Well I say it all the time You know in these interviews I call it the stories behind the songs And that's what I want to hear I see a lot of song titles pop up in my email And until I really interview the artist They really do Yeah it really does And so let me ask you this Now artists that may have influenced you That maybe you listened to Growing up on the radio Or some of the big names that we might know Who were some of those artists? Well and that's the thing As far as like the music That I listened to growing up I listened to such a wide variety You know I played violin in orchestra So I really loved Vivaldi And as far as like the country genre Queen was my favorite Oh yeah Man I feel like a woman But I mean in all And quite honestly I just love music So just like depending on what phase I was in in life And you know what was going on At the time I listened to all different artists Isn't that interesting And they talk about it at the theater That I broadcast my show from On Saturdays all the time And Stevie Lee Woods Talks about that on stage A song you know Can make you feel happy Can make you feel sad But you know in those moments You recall that song That you grew up maybe listening to Or that really had an effect on you And that's why you guys do music Isn't it because of the effect That it can have on people I mean it's therapeutic It's all of that isn't it It really is It's one of the languages of heaven It just communicates to our spirit It's more than a physical thing It touches our heart It touches our senses In a way that other things can't And when you're doing country gospel music You're doing God's work By showing your God given talent To the world And you're making music That's going to move people To want to maybe seek out the Lord And find out what his will is And that kind of thing That's the end of a life And that is awesome too Thank you I promise and I hope And it's been interesting As I have been writing these Christian songs Quite often I'll pray to God And just ask what message Would you have me deliver And literally over and over again It's just his love He wants me to just share his love And I think that's something That the world needs right now So many people I think Don't accept me And that's not true That's a lie And God loves us no matter what And he's there waiting With open arms And so as I've written It's actually made me stronger It's increased my faith Because I felt so much love Come from him As I've written these songs And just so much feeling So it's been amazing Now did you grow up in church In a church choir or any of that? I sang in a church choir And I've actually directed Some church choirs But I mean literally The Christian music scene Was always nice But I was wondering And played other stuff So the Lord literally changed My heart about three years ago Now instruments that you play Are you self-taught On playing the guitar Or anything like that? I don't know what else to say But when I was six I started the piano and the guitar And my dad is an amazing guitar teacher And I started taking lessons from him When I was like six And not too long after I started He wouldn't teach me anymore Because I acted like I knew it all And I'm so embarrassed by that But I'm glad that he did that Because I had to learn humility And I don't know What I was thinking as a six-year-old To treat my dad like that So it was probably A good life lesson to learn So those two instruments I started when I was six And then violin I started Just our school had a program When I was in fourth grade So all of the other instruments I've had instruction on Except ukulele and mandolin That's awesome And I had somebody tell me In an interview just a couple of weeks ago They started out on the mandolin And then they took up the guitar Because I would have thought The first progression would have been the guitar And then progressed to the mandolin later And they did it the exact opposite Of what I would have thought That's true I don't know that I've heard of somebody Doing the mandolin first The mandolin and the violin Have the same chords And the same strings and stuff So a lot of times people will do The fiddle and then mandolin But I've never heard mandolin and then guitar That's really interesting I don't think it really ever went away But a lot of younger artists Are making that traditional country music They always say Alabama says you've got to have a fiddle in the band But that steel guitar That steel guitar really makes That traditional sound, doesn't it? It is, I love that steel guitar I do too So let's give a big shout out To the recording studio That you use to record your latest project Thank you I think this is the first time I don't know that I've had the opportunity To do a shout out And that needs to be done Brad Davis Productions Or Brad Davis Studios Out of Commerce, Texas Is who that I work with He's phenomenal The studio is just phenomenal You know there's music studios All over the country And I don't always get Nashville People don't always go there to record There's a lot of them right in our backyard And a lot of the technology Is in our basement studio Or something like that And it sounds like they've been to Nashville Yes, it's amazing Your music is phenomenal And that's why I wanted to give a shout out Commerce Studios That's one you need to check out folks Thank you Now let me ask you this too What is your dream gig? An artist that you would like to maybe open for Or maybe do a duet with Who might be some big names we might know Oh my goodness Yeah, it's a really good one I would probably say Eric Church or Jason Aldean That would be down the road As I get a little more work on That would be an amazing opportunity There you go Your music is fit for Church So Eric Church is right in there There we go Absolutely Now I want to talk a little bit about songwriting You've written a lot of songs And at what point did you realize That you had that gift Because I believe that is a God given talent too I don't have that gift actually But I can do parodies to a lot of existing songs But to write your own material Is really a gift from God So do you do that on your own? Do you co-write with somebody? What's your process of songwriting? I do it all on my own But you've got to understand Like for me I grew up I grew up keeping journals But a lot of times I would just write songs Or write poems to express my feelings Because it was a way Like when you write a journal They say it's really healthy for you Emotionally and mentally And it's got all of these statistics Of why it's so good for you But I would like to write songs instead And it just felt like it would help me heal Help me release Maybe understand some of the feelings That I was feeling When it was in a song format At school And so I don't know That I was good at it But it's just been a way That I relate to the world And it's just been something That's been inside of me Since I was little maybe So it's just something That I could have always done Yeah and the teacher's probably going Hey everything rhymes There's something going on Exactly I remember in science class We had to stand up And give those essays We had to write them every week And get up in front of everybody But those were good Those teach us things like public speaking And you get doing a lot of that In radio interviews Like you're doing with me today And stuff like that So there's just so many ways That it has value isn't it That's true Yeah absolutely What about this one? So this is actually A story that my dad wrote My dad's an amazing songwriter And for his birthday I told him I would record one of his songs And we'd actually made a CD of his music When I was growing up And he's amazing His name's Gus Hollister And he wrote Dreams Did I Heart And it's one that so many people Related to And I think that Because of the relatability Of that The way that he worded it So simply It just gets you Like if you've experienced Any of those feelings Where you've had a dream And you know what do it But maybe it just didn't reach your dream It's a very real thing And so I had the awesome privilege Of just recording one of his songs And honestly I think That on the charts That hit is higher And that's something A great tribute to your dad right there That is awesome And that's why I love asking the questions Because you never know what you're going to hear And I love that And isn't it neat When your dad is supporting Your career in country music And I get a lot of young people Of course And their parents are behind them 150% And pushing their career But you guys were in the family band And did that together In your solo career too Oh absolutely Most of my parents I don't know how I ever got so blessed Some of my best friends In the whole world And they would literally do anything for me Or anybody else Now let me ask you real quick too About that family band How many brothers and sisters Are they doing anything Still in the world of music like you are I have three other sisters And my youngest sister Is actually in the middle Of recording a CD right now And she does shows My other two sisters play a lot In church And then they'll do shows occasionally But their family is mostly Moms are really busy With being a mom Which is awesome It's the best career anyway So they're doing that And their kids are all Super amazing musicians So they're supporting them And you know You know where to find me now And Michael Stover knows where to find me Have him reach out And we'll get her on 15 stations Like we're doing with you tonight Oh thank you That's so kind I'll pass along that information I sure love that Absolutely You know country music is universal And the whole world loves it And they understand that language Don't they The show is over You're listening to the Tim Kelly Show On KICR Indie Country Radio New Country Fest On this New fine And I'm sure I look fine And I'm sure I look fine I've seen grown men cry I've seen grandpas die I've seen lives torn in two I've seen sad goodbyes I've seen lonely times But that's nothing like me losing you I've seen friendships end Favorite teams not win Lifelong dreams not come true I've seen broken hearts Plans that fell apart But that's nothing like me losing you I'd go insane I'd burn down in flames I'd drink myself blind I'd lose my mind And no one would know What I'm going through Cause there's nothing like Me losing you Me losing you I'd go insane I'd drown in the rain Pretend I'm doing fine While I'm dying inside And no one would know What I'm going through Cause there's nothing like Me losing you No, there's nothing like Me losing you In a world, there was one man, Tim Kelly And there was only one radio station Indie Country Radio Boy, mama I don't know how you did Everything you did for all the kids You made it look so easy And I know it had to be so hard Those early days, the first few scars Had you scared to death Half the time, I guess Boy, mama So much I wanna say Never missed a step, never missed a game Drove me to church on Sunday From my first car, those teenage years First girlfriend, some of your fears Kept you up all night Ain't that right? Boy, mama Just like your T-shirt says One of a kind, straight from the sky Made so fast it gets away I don't wanna Just make sure you know I'll take her hand and be her man But I'll never let you go Cause a part of me Will always be Your boy, mama And boy, mama You oughta be a millionaire If you got paid for all those days And every whispered prayer And all I have around you Is the packed up jeans and that window Too you woulda lost your mind If the good Lord didn't make wine Boy, mama Just like your T-shirt says One of a kind, straight from the sky Made so fast it gets away I don't wanna Just make sure you know I'll take her hand and be her man But I'll never let you go Cause a part of me Will always be Your boy, mama And boy, mama You oughta be a millionaire If you got paid for all those days And every whispered prayer And all I have around you Is the packed up jeans and that window Too you woulda lost your mind If the good Lord didn't make wine Boy, mama Just like your T-shirt says One of a kind, straight from the sky Made so fast it gets away I don't wanna Just make sure you know I'll take her hand and be her man But I'll never let you go Cause a part of me Will always be From KICR Indie Country Radio New Country's Best On New Music Friday We were two drinks in When I left the first man And the rush I felt Hasn't left me yet And it's not You're the only question That I've gotten Whether you or the whiskey Boy since you kissed me I've been floating On the next level high Is it your lovin' That's got me buzzin' Or was the bourbon Messin' with my mind My heart's feelin' filthy You or the whiskey Are you feelin' the same Are you tastin' good too Are we missin' a shot If we don't see it through Intoxication's got me Wantin' more How bad enough to taste So I can know for sure Whether you or the whiskey Boy since you kissed me I've been floating On the next level high Is it your lovin' That's got me buzzin' Or was the bourbon Messin' with my mind My heart's feelin' filthy You or the whiskey It's all a blur Then again it's not So the only question That I've gotten Whether you or the whiskey Boy since you kissed me I've been floating On the next level high Is it your lovin' That's got me buzzin' Or was the bourbon Messin' with my mind My heart's feelin' filthy My heart's feelin' filthy You or the whiskey You or the whiskey You or the whiskey Hey moon I'm gettin' it all that I got Hey moon I'm down to my last shot Felt like livin' and I felt like dyin' Come on back to me Hey people You were pretty sure It was gonna work out for ya I still call my mama When I've had a bad day And I still can't fall asleep Until I pray Still sing on my ride Every time I throw it Still drive a John Deere I got so lit Some things do But some things never change I still do my best Singin' on an old dry road Leave my parents on the back porch When I come home I still sing the broke heart With a country song Cause you never outgrow What you grew up on No you never outgrow What you grew up on I don't drink my beers And bark and lie these days Cause I quit Drawin' cards Around traffic lanes But I'm still Countin' on my first guitar Still makin' wishes On the same old car There ain't no Outlet in how I was raised I still do my best Singin' on an old dry road Leave my parents on the back porch When I come home I still sing the broke heart With a country song Cause you never outgrow What you grew up on No you never outgrow What you grew up on Some things you don't ever let go Some things you'll never get old I still find myself on an old dirt road Leave my boots on the back porch When I get home I still sing the broke heart With a country song Cause you never outgrow What you grew up on No you never outgrow What you grew up on No you never outgrow What you grew up on I Love It When She Whines Logan Tucker on the Tim Kelly Show from KICR Indie Country Radio New Country's Best on New Music Friday Beer tastes better in a dive bar Listenin' to a jukebox play I'd rather drive my old truck Than a brand new Chevrolet Rain sounds better on a tin roof Cryin' next to you, ain't that the truth? Ain't nothin' like a sawdust dance floor Spinnin' you round and round Or a long country drive goin' nowhere Chasin' the sunset down Ain't nothin' your mama's love can't get you through Ain't that the truth? Sunday was lame for watchin' the game Kickin' off your sheets We should spend more time at the finishin' hall The rest of time watchin' the news I can't think of nothin' better, baby Than me forever and you Ain't that the truth? I'd rather work on an old farm Than a worn out pair of boots Perhaps one twist in my arm And a three-piece arm on a suit It's time to get used more, cowboy Have a lot more angels like you Ain't that the truth? Sunday was lame for watchin' the game Kickin' off your shoes We should spend more time at the finishin' hall The rest of time watchin' the news I can't think of nothin' better, baby Than me forever and you Ain't that the truth? Sunday was made for amazing grace Singin' praise in an old church queue We should spend more time at the finishin' hall The rest of time watchin' the news I can't think of nothin' better, baby Than me forever and you I can't think of nothin' better, baby Than me forever and you Ain't that the truth? It tastes better in a dime, boy Than listenin' to a jukebox play Than listenin' to a jukebox play Nobody knows New Country like we know New Country Indie Country Radio, New Country's back I was comin' of age Old enough to understand My dad said we've got to have a talk, son Man to man There'll be girls in your life Love will come and love will go There's a few things about the ladies A man needs to know Well, ladies love warm sunshine Sippin' on sweet red wine They love flowers and curtains And dancin' in three-four time Ladies love fancy things Built in satin and diamond rings But most of all they love the feelin' That true love brings Now I've known a few ladies I've learned how to treat them right A little tender love and care Will go a long way late at night You can promise forever But the words are not enough You've got to know a gentle lady's heart To win a lady's heart And ladies love warm sunshine Sippin' on sweet red wine They love flowers and curtains And dancin' in three-four time Ladies love fancy things Built in satin and diamond rings But most of all they love the feelin' That true love brings Ladies love warm sunshine Sippin' on sweet red wine They love flowers and curtains And dancin' in three-four time Ladies love fancy things Built in satin and diamond rings But most of all they love the feelin' That true love brings Ladies love warm sunshine I wanna take a moment to give some love to this next young lady She's been on the Tim Kelly Show a couple of times And in just three days on March the 4th It will be the one year anniversary when she made her debut On the Grand Ole Opry stage She is our good friend from Hope, Arkansas Miss Mae Estes And this is called Town Left Me On the Tim Kelly Show from KICR Indie Country Radio New Country's Best on New Music Friday Almost missed a turn to my mama's house Just lookin' around At all the things that have changed since I rolled out That brand new coffee shop Used to be a gravel lot It was the home game hangout spot And now it's not And it's real clear to see That with or without me The sun'll go up, the sun'll go down They'll widen the road on 58 South Out with the old, break a new ground Rippin' the roots and the heart right out Every time that I come back it's different from what it used to be I know I'm a woman left this town But it feels more like this town left me I just ran into Miss Robinson My next door neighbor growing up She said hi back but I'm not sure that She recognized who I was How can a place such a part of me Move right on without stepping feet Cover my handprint with fresh concrete Paving over my memories The sun'll go up, the sun'll go down They'll widen the road on 58 South Out with the old, break a new ground Rippin' the roots and the heart right out Every time that I come back it's different from what it used to be I know I'm a woman left this town But it feels more like this town left me Oh, oh, oh On the outside looking in Wishing I was part of it again Come back every time I can The time marches on like that high school band And that sun'll go up, it'll come down They'll widen the road on 58 South Out with the old, break a new ground Rippin' the roots and the heart right out Every time that I come back it's different from what it used to be I know I'm a woman left this town But it feels more like this town left me Yeah, town left me Town left me Country sounds like this Pullin' up the bar till I'm one step away Two steppin' away with your heart And this This old shirt is getting warm The knees of these jeans are torn This old bag don't work the way it should And this Holdin' a beer on a Friday night Holdin' a match when I need a light Holdin' a gun, now I'm a cop Never mind the years, I'm in a dime now You're listening to the Man in the Mirror Country music on J-I-T-O In the year 2003 Lost in the buzz of a busy street I never saw the leaves fall A couple feet away, kissin' my deceit But I don't feel it at all You're like the wind rollin' in on a summer blade Lazy river and the rapids are raised Just a man layin' next to you Time stands still You make me wanna slow down Stay to make it easy I'll take the long way round Just as long as you're with me In a city full of neon Burnin' too bright Baby, you're my yellow light You make me wanna slow down You make me wanna slow down You make me wanna slow down Take a walk after midnight Stay in bed until noon Drive in the curb to the coastline And trace every inch of you I like the rush when it does wanna get away Don't get up, take it in that I can't You can know that I
