Learning projects are a way to motivate and guide individuals towards their desired goals. For example, if someone wants to become a manager and struggles with conflict, they can focus on learning about successful conflict resolution each week. Similarly, someone interested in data and analytics can share their progress in self-study or online courses. The key is to choose specific actions that can be done regularly and are relevant to the coaching area. Learning projects create a sense of ownership and accountability, fostering a strong emotional connection to one's ideal state. Now, once you find out what motivates someone or where they want to go, and let's say again going back to an earlier example of somebody who wants to maybe become a manager and they're struggling with conflict, the learning project could be every week I want you to come in with two things you learned about having conflict successfully and how that will position you to become a future manager. Or if you have someone who wants to go into data and analytics and maybe they have to pursue some self-study or online courses, have them come in and share two things that they've done to really fuel their motivation in the direction of their ideal state, again using our whiteboard coaching activity. Make whatever those attributes are. Pick things. Now, obviously if someone needs to improve their communication, that's a big topic. Pick specific things that they can do on a repetitive basis that won't take a lot of time to do. Learning projects are designed to be applied to the area that you're coaching. Now, it's not just the ideal state, but it would be an attribute of the ideal state, like having conversations at conflict, learning how to work with maybe a statistical software program for analytics and data. You get the idea. The learning project really bestows the ownership and accountability and the rightful owner for them to come back and say, here's what I'm doing, here's what I'm learning, here's how this is positioning me to move in the direction of my ideal state. It creates a very strong emotional connection.
