When coaching someone in a learning project, it is important to stick to the same project as much as possible. However, if there is no progress, don't focus on the areas where they are failing. Instead, encourage them to bring in examples of success. This helps them see what they are doing right and gives them a vision for improvement. The learning project should remain consistent between the green and yellow stages, but you can adjust it slightly if progress is being made. Ask for examples of success and areas for improvement. When you're at the yellow light moment, when it comes to learning projects, again, we encourage you to use a standing learning project, the same learning project as much as you possibly can. Now let's say for whatever reason you're not seeing the progress. Remember the learning project can elicit a negative or positive response from the person you're coaching. So don't gravitate. Our advice is don't gravitate to, well, give me two areas where you feel like you're not succeeding. Remember you want them to bring in successes. See, when you bring in successes, you get people to actualize what they're doing correctly or give them a vision of what is to be done correctly. The learning project at the yellow stage really should not change much from the green stage, the effort stage. Here's why. We want to maintain consistency. Yet at that green stage, you want to, again, make sure that you've defined expectations, what you're coaching to, whether it's accountability, dealing with angry customers, possessing a really positive, influential, team-like attitude, whatever it might be. Make sure you craft out that learning project. That is the bridge between your coaching sessions. At the yellow light moment, if you are progressing, you can alter that a little bit and say, I want you to come in with two examples as it relates to accountability. One where you are really successful and you feel like you're improving, and maybe an area where you feel like you need to progress a little bit more. Now, that's still the same learning project as the green light moment. I'm just changing the words and inserting it as it relates to our stages. I'm using the word progressing. One where you were really successful in progressing, maybe one where you'd like to progress more or you could progress more.
