In this podcast episode, Trent Thomas talks about the concept of being willing in recovery. Being willing means being eager and ready to help others and participate in our own recovery. It involves showing gratitude for our own recovery and wanting to assist others in achieving the same outcome. Being willing also means being open and honest about our own experiences and sharing our story to inspire others. It requires shedding shame and guilt, giving of our time and energy, and being a mentor to others. Being willing also means accepting accountability for our mistakes and making amends. Overall, being willing is about choosing to live and not die. is a Process of Decisions podcast. Is Trent Thomas, your recovery peer support specialist. Tonight's episode is entitled, Willing in Recovery. Willing in Recovery means to be in the mood to proceed in eagerness, pleased, enthusiastic, accommodating, compliant, ready, inclined, agreeable. The opposite would be reluctant, disinclined, unagreeable. To be willing in recovery means to be eager and thus favorably disposed to help. The framework for willing is appreciatively happy to complete. The willingness to serve someone other than ourselves stems from gratitude. When we appreciate the gift of recovery from God, we are eager to assist someone else to achieve the same outcome. Willing includes a readiness to participate in our own recovery. To share our story, our truth, in the effort to demonstrate strength and hope. A willingness to show the product of faith and perseverance from the God of our understanding. Willingness to shed the discomfort of shame and guilt. To be willing to give of oneself time and energy. The willingness to walk the walk and talk the talk. The willingness to be a sponsor, to encourage and demonstrate what to and what not to do. The fact is that this life is hills and valleys and a willingness to show how we meet the challenge of climbing and surveying each and every one of them. Willing to omit our imperfections and wrong missteps. Willingness to demonstrate how we manage to do better each and every day. For me, I demonstrate my willingness to shed tears and feel what I have to feel so I can move on and do better. My willingness includes, am I willing to submit to the will of the God of my understanding? Am I willingness to accept accountability for my wrong decisions? Am I willing to say I am sorry for making wrong decisions and make the necessary amends for these wrong decisions? Being willing is a happy acceptance and eager readiness to decide to live and not die. This is Trent Thomas on the Recovery is a Process of Decisions podcast.
