Well, you know, it's put news, quote unquote, my air quotes, at our fingertips instantaneously. But we're not checking the news they're giving us. We're just eating it up instead of verifying what we're being fed. And so we're being fed a lot of bullshit. And we're just eating it up thinking it's real and going off of what they're telling us instead of really diving into whether or not it's even factual or true. That's what we're prone to do right now. Because we don't get the full stories of anything. We just take pieces of this, put together our own assumption to it, and then we create from there. Because now we have a platform. I'm glad you're talking about social media. Now we have a platform to become newscasters. Now we're all news anchors. Right. We give you the news. But news nowadays on social media is a lot of opinion. Yeah, that's why. And opinions are like... Everybody got one. And they all stink. All stink, period. So whose opinion are we supposed to believe? Well, that's when, you know, opinions, well, facts are still existent. There's fact. There's truth. There's real. There's all that. We heard a word on Sunday called logic, but we'll come back to that. Yes, logic. And we also heard that we're crazy. Come on. Come on. But, yeah, and you can't fact check everything. You don't have the time. Right. So I think what we have to do is be real careful about what we're subjecting ourselves to, what we're opening our eye gates and our ear gates to, what we're allowing in. You know, I'll say it again. I turned the news off three years ago, I think, and I have not watched it since. And my life is so much more peaceful. Now, maybe people say... Hey, the soundboard agrees. The soundboard went with it. Maybe people would say I'm living in my own bubble. But that's okay. I like my own bubble, if that's how you want to look at it. Soundboard agrees. Oh, no. Okay. We're having technical difficulties with the soundboard. Oh, no. Are they all lighting up? Okay. All righty. What's happening there? I don't know. So when you say everyone has an opinion and everyone wants to add their two cents. When do we get to the place where we allow people to have their opinion, but we don't have to agree with your opinion? I think the division that I'm seeing now is if I don't agree with you, then we're against each other. Exactly. And it used to be back in the day that we could all have different opinions, and that was just an opinion. It was just an opinion. It didn't make me any different. It didn't make me inhuman. It didn't make me whatever. Right. But now, yes, differing opinions are not allowed, although we live in a land of tolerance, right? Absolutely. Oh, yes. It's all about tolerance. We all have different opinions. It's so asinine and fast backwards and upside down. But that's what the word says, that we're going to head in that direction, and here we are. And here we are. And it's not like it's going to slow down, ladies and gentlemen. I think that it's important to talk about it and understand it instead of us kind of sweeping it under a rug and not addressing the full situation. I'm not against anyone having a different opinion about what I feel. I had a conversation with a Muslim, and we had different views big time. Yeah. But I don't hate him. No, he's a person. When did it get to a place where I don't want you to exist anymore because you don't agree? I have a different opinion. Is that narcissistic? Yeah. Would you agree? Yeah. Okay. I'm going to have to go with that, too. I feel like that's a narcissistic mindset that allows us to believe that it's only my opinion. It's like my way or the… Highway. Yeah. I don't understand that. I'm sorry. I would never understand that. I don't know where we veered off course with that. But it's definitely been in the last 20 years I think we've veered off course. I'll use the two words in which you used, media and social media. Yeah. Eye gates, ear gates, and now we're speaking it. Right. And we have keyboard warriors that don't have the balls to say anything except when they're behind a screen. She called them keyboard warriors. I love it. And those people, I have no time for them because if you can't say it to my face, you really don't feel that strongly about it, I don't believe. It made it more – I feel more emasculated or I feel more strengthened when I can get my point across, but I don't have to confront you. So I feel like I did my part. But if you don't have the balls to confront people, then you shouldn't keep your opinion to yourself. Maybe that's the era. That's different from culture. That's the era in which we grew up in. You can't say it to my face. Then don't say it. Don't say it at all. You ain't got the balls enough to say it. So I get it. That's the era. But if you say it behind my back, I'll probably find out you said it behind my back anyway. I'm coming for you. Yeah. We'll have a discussion later. I really believe that's the era. However, things are changed so much, and we're becoming so divided because we've allowed, in your words, the keyboard warriors to continue to divide us, and we're accepting it. Well, and not only that, but opinions used to be something that you shared in your friend group or just one-on-one. It wasn't like you were spouting your opinions on every single thing that happens in life on social media where you have a platform supposedly, and that's all you do is spout your opinions and how right you are. No, you ain't right. You ain't right. No. You might be right every once in a while, but opinions are not facts, people. Opinions are things we feel. Opinions are things that we gather in our own heads because of what our experience has been. None of our experiences are the same. Our journeys are not the same. They're never going to be. That's not how we're designed. So we're supposed to have differing opinions, and we're supposed to be appreciative of those things. It doesn't mean we have to agree, but it doesn't mean that we're diametrically opposed to each other either. Absolutely right. If you look at that scripture in which you just read, it says how good and pleasant it is for when we come together in unity. That means, or that says right there, that it's going to be a difference between me and you. Right. It's pleasant enough for us to come together and unify because there is a difference. Right. Why would I want to live with a person that's going to be just like me? Cookie cutter. Like we agree on everything. If I don't have a difference, then how can I know I'm right or wrong? Oh, yeah. That's a good statement. And not only that, but we think that God just sat there and stamped out all these humans to be, oh, look, here's my stamp. Come on. He made different tribes. He made different skin colors. And we're all created what were beautifully and wonderfully made. Yes. Yes. I'll embrace that in which we are different. I can honestly say we were talking about hair just a minute ago. Yes, we were. And I can honestly say that my hair is different from Shelby's. And my hair changes every damn day, so you never know what you're going to get. So we get the part that we have different styles of hair. That's okay. My beard don't lay down like other guys. I don't have a beard. Thank God. And why not embrace that and see the differences? Okay, so when I look at women, every woman is not shaped the same. No. I love this lady. Every woman is not shaped the same. And the best part about that to me is why would I want everything to be the same? If I go into a restaurant, if I go into McDonald's and everything is a cheeseburger, I have no decision to make. You took my choice away. And if you take my choice away, what am I here for? When I look at the menu, I want to look at a variety. Are we still talking about women? Right, I just went there. So should we take everybody's choice away based upon what one person or two people or five people think? Like are we snatching choice now? I have a right to think what I want to think. I have a right to believe what I want to believe. I'm not going to force anyone to read the Bible. I give a scripture in the New Testament. It's in the book of Romans, if I'm not mistaken. It says the letter kills, but the spirit gives life. If we force people the letters, the Bible, it will kill them. It will choke them to death because they can't digest what we're trying to say to them. Well, yeah, and I'm a believer who has read the Bible, and I'll tell you what, revelation, oh, it makes my brain hurt. I have such a hard time deciphering that book. I get it, but the spirit of God, when it's read to you in a way that you can understand it, that you can digest it, that you can receive it, man, it's a whole other level of life. But we don't look at that from a world standpoint. It just has to be one way, and I'm kind of tired of that. Well, and I think, I mean, you and I have discussed this before, that heart knowledge is, to me, way more important than head knowledge when it comes to being a believer because the Holy Spirit can speak to your heart and make you into the most close-to-Christ person that you could possibly be without having to read the book. I do think that it helps you to read the book, absolutely, and I do think that it feeds your soul and all those things that are so important. But I think that if you had all the head knowledge and no heart knowledge, you're preaching. That's scripture. You can have faith. You can have hope, and you can have all these other things full of that type of knowledge, but you're like a sounding brass and a clanging cymbal if you don't have that in which God has given us, and that's the love and the Holy Spirit in which we can receive. Amen. So something I want to ask you, because I am not a black man. You're not? No. Oh, man. I'm a white chick. So, okay, like I know if you go on Facebook or whatever, it's like dire, you know, like there's racism everywhere and blah, blah, blah, and you can't go anywhere without experiencing a white person who's going to come against you in some form or fashion, but is that what we really experience day-to-day? I mean, do we really or are we letting social media create this fear and this chasm and this division that doesn't really exist? And I know it does exist in some spaces, but I don't know that it's as prevalent as what social media wants us to believe. I think there's a lot more good people out there that don't get on social media, that don't spread their opinions, that don't – it's the negative ones that seem to be the most vocal. Absolutely. But so my concern is that we're feeding into it, and when we're on the social media and we're reading all this stuff, it's igniting a fire within us that really maybe shouldn't be there or be as strong as it should because it's not real. And I'm not disqualifying any racial issues because I know they're there. Believe me, I know they're there. And I'm not a black man, so I can't answer that question. But I just – that's my concern is that we're mentally blowing it up out of proportion when our day-to-day life isn't what – isn't – day-to-day life, if I can spit it out, is not speaking the same story. Okay, okay. But am I wrong? I mean, maybe I'm wrong. Well, let me answer it how I'm hearing you. Let me answer it from this perspective. So are you speaking about how everything that's presented before us, whether it's social media, news, whatever it is, when it's presented to us, I think we allow it to paint a picture. Right. And once it begins to paint a picture in our heads, we act on it. Right. We never get the full information. Before we let that settle in like that's real, that's truth, that's reality. Yes, yes, because we never get the full – and we really don't need the full information because if you look at it – and I want to say even from a scriptural standpoint, we knew that Joseph had some issues in 2 Kings. We knew that Joseph had some issues. But his sons, even with his issues, his sons lifted his hands up when he couldn't lift his hands up and allowed him to still walk and greet the people in the aspect in which he greeted. Same thing with David. David knew that he was caught in the act, but the prophet Nathan still went to him and said, hey, I know what you did, but you're still a king. And so I think the picture is being painted for us from culture, from race, from creed, whatever it is, even denominations and political views. It's painting a picture where it's causing us to only look at it one way and divide us. Right. We're fractured. So bad. So bad. And no one wants to dig into the ultimate truth, and that is the enemy comes to steal, to kill, and to destroy. To me, that's the ultimate truth. I do understand. We were just talking. I do understand. I'm a black man, and there are certain areas that I cannot go into without being looked at differently. I get it. I get it. I know I cannot take you into projects in Chicago. What? Dammit. But, you know, and we've had this discussion. Part of taking down the walls between the races would be if I could go to the projects. Not by yourself, but yes. Because without experiencing it, you don't understand it, and you have the fear of the unknown. And you can make a devil into anything and anybody, and your imagination can run wild. Right? So instead of, I don't know. I just think that that's part of the issue, is that we can't truly experience each other's backgrounds and cultural situations because we can't. But why, though? I think we're only blocking each other. Well, you just told me that I can't go to the projects because I'm going to get, I don't know. The end part of that was by yourself. If I go with you, we'll ease it up, and then you'll be good. However, it'll be the same thing. Okay. Okay, but okay. Let's use that. Okay. You and I go to the projects. Yep. Okay? That's your hood. Not mine, obviously. It's your hood. Right? Mm-hmm. Okay, but you're going to get backlash for taking me there. No. From somebody. I bet you will. I bet you will. I won't. I won't. Trust me, I won't. The only thing that will happen is I would be careful to make sure that you're protected. I'm not even talking about me. I'm just talking about would there not be some kickback for you bringing a white chick into the project? No. Really? No. Why? Because it's more of a surprise than it is, hey, don't do that. Surprise? You're right. Yeah, because it's more of a surprise. Here's me white chick. It's like you don't expect it. Right. So it'll be more of a, wow. It'll be more of a wow than it is, oh, man, you shouldn't have did that, this and that. It'll be like, is she okay? Is she okay? She's here. So it won't be like a bad thing. So let's flip the script. Okay. Same thing. I come to your hood if you have a hood. I don't know if you have a hood. I don't know that I have a hood. Your hood. Right. I'm hoodless. Stay in California. Can I use California because I can't really use Tennessee. I don't think you'd have any problem in California. I don't think. I can't use California either. If you flip the script, I don't know that. I don't know. No, I've been in some areas. No, and I can't speak to that because I'm not you. Right. Right. Right. Right. Right. Right. Now, I will say, if we went as a couple in a relationship, oh, yes, we would get side-eye for sure. That's everywhere. Yes. That's everywhere. And that's a subject. Yes, it is. Because you didn't know that love had to be this or whatever the criterion with someone. Right. You had to stick with a certain protocol. That's a big subject. Right. Love is supposed to conquer all things. It should. I think it does. It should. Right. But everybody have different views about that. So I was sharing with Cheryl that there are certain areas in which I can't drive in. And she said, I cannot understand that. I know what you're talking about because I've saw some things and it has transpired in so many different ways. However, I think that talking about it allows us to understand each other better. Absolutely. Because I would never, without you telling me those experiences, I would never understand that. I don't have a clue about that. And that's where I think the backlash come in because we're not talking about it. We would rather take our anger, whatever race it is, we would rather take our anger and say, hey, I'm just going to be pissed about this for the rest of my life. Why not talk about it? Yeah, I think it depends on what we want to focus on, if we want to focus on the negativity of it or if we want to do something to change it and make it a positive. And what has been taking place nowadays is people have decided to take the negative and reside there. And no one is choosing to come from that place and have this conversation. I also think that with social media, we are being fed one direction only. Yes, indeed. When the truth is that it happens both directions. And therefore, we are being skewed, our whole thought process and experience is being skewed. And that's wrong. That is not truth. My mom told me a long time ago, she made a statement. She said, there's your view, there's my view, and there's the truth. And we never get to that the truth part because we're fighting each other about your view and my view. And that's the sad part. It's just like hearing versus listening. Come on. Are we hearing just so we can have a reaction and we can have an answer? Or are we actually listening to understand? I'm guilty of not listening. Oh, I'm definitely guilty of that. Because you only want to hear what you want to hear. Even to people that I dearly love, there's moments I'm like, yeah, whatever. Can I say I'm guilty of selective hearing? Because I only want to hear what I want to hear. You can say, Nate, I need you to be mindful of that particular note. Don't hit that note that way. Hit that note another way. And all I will hear is you sound like crap. Well, I think that I told you something a few months ago. You heard what you wanted to hear. I did. That's why I said I'm a witness to selective hearing. But I think we all say, and you just threw that back at me with that singing thing. I don't know what you were saying, mister. Yeah, exactly. I took an apology for it, really. So if we found a common ground and are able to talk about it, I don't think we'll have as many kickbacks as we have, but a lot of this generation is not willing to talk about it. It's your way or my way. Which generation are you talking about? The X, the Y, the Z, the millennials, all of the above? Well, let me – okay, I don't want to say generation. I'll say this day and age. This era. This era, yeah. Good, this era. This era of people are not willing to talk. You know they're not willing to talk because they'll text before they talk. Okay, now don't do that because I'm a texter. I'm not a talker. I mean, I know you're a texter. But when we deal with a full situation, why should we have to text that? If I'm dealing with a – Too much to text. Exactly, exactly. And you don't get the intonation and you don't get the feeling from a text, and then you run with whatever your mind says, the intonation ones. How do you hear a tone in a text? Right, you don't. That can go a whole lot of other ways. I don't want to go into that. That is so true. That is so true. Oh, my God. However, I think that there's so many distractions around us, and with us having this conversation, I think it should possibly shed some light on at least allowing cultures to talk. I grew up not wanting to talk to certain cultures because I was angry. As time went by, I began to understand that my anger was at one, not all. That's one of the biggest issues that I believe that has divided us as race because we're angry about something that happened to someone and not in an all type of situation. We're lumping everybody into one category. If one's bad, they're all bad. Yes. A bad apple spoils the whole crop. We talked about that last week too. We have to start identifying people as individuals. Even where we work together, they are a certain demographic of people, but if we lump them all together and said they're all this way, we wouldn't help any of them. Let me ask you a question, Cheryl. Oh, good. He's giggling. I'm in trouble. No. I've had this happen before, so I'm going to ask you this question. If you was to give a description, if someone say, hey, who is the guy that worked at the place that we reside at, what would be the description that you would give? I'm asking this for a particular reason. Am I supposed to describe you? Yes. Let's see. How would you describe me? Well, gosh, because you're my buddy, so I don't know. I'd be like, well, it would be the black man that's always wearing the black outfit, the black man in the black clothes. The big dude. The big dude. The big dude. Gotcha. Yeah, that'd probably be pretty much it. A lot of people don't want to, like, are we offended when we say a person's color? No, because, I mean, well, yes, there are people who are offended by that. You and I had this discussion earlier. We were talking about it, yeah. If you call me a white chick, I'm not offended. But that's what you are. I am a white chick. Yes, absolutely. I own it. I am a white chick. I can't go saying I'm a black chick because I ain't no black chick. I don't know what it's like to be a black chick. I have no melanin. I'm just not. I got you. I got you. Can't do it. I got you. You know, it is a description. It's a description. Yeah, but a lot of people take offense to it, and I don't understand that because we should embrace that we are culturally different, but we are equal in being human and being God's children. And all of the things that come with the cultural differences are really what make us unique and cool. If that's your description, why not own your description? Right. Working at UT with the officers that I worked with, I was the only black man that worked in that unit. And so when they would say, hey, this person, blah, blah, blah, they would say, who are you talking about? Oh, the black guy, because I was the only one there. So why am I angry for being who I am? Like, I don't see the disrespect in that. Okay, so going back to what you just said, if it was one of the other guys, right, that they were trying to describe, they're going to say it's the blonde dude, or it's the tall guy, or it's the one that always wears the dirty clothes. I mean, but those are descriptions. The stinky guy. I got you. The one with the beard, the one, you know, I mean, he's got red hair. Descriptions, people, they're just descriptions. They're just descriptions of who a person is, and it's not a negative description because that is who you are. Right. Are you embarrassed of who you are? Oh, damn. Ouch. That hurt right there. Come on. Come on. And that is where we need to dig into. Like, is it yourself? The insecurity? Or is it what you are afraid of that other people see? That's the embarrassment. Projecting. Like, what is it? I'm not ashamed of being who I am. And I can't take this suit off. No. I can take the Nike off, but I can't take the suit off because it's part of who I am. No, but when you go home, it'll go. It's not with you. Amen. You get a new body. Hallelujah. I know. Isn't that exciting? Hallelujah. And that new body, man, doesn't represent a certain divisive thing when my father says, come on, son. Come home. Come on home. Oh, my God. That's important to me. And that's why I don't use the comment, I don't see color, because there is color. Absolutely, there is. We're supposed to be different shades. We're not supposed to be the same. Yes. He made different tribes. Yes. I mean, it's... Yes. Embrace who you are. Accept who you are. Don't feel intimidated by who you are or emasculated or whatever words you want to use. Less than. Less than. Be who you are. Right. And be satisfied in that. Right. I think I did a post on that like yesterday or something. And be okay with... Be authentic. Be yourself. Be your authentic self. Yes. Yes. Why should we have to change? I don't think Jesus walked around and was afraid because of what they might perceive him to be. And they did judge him. Trust me. They put all kind of thorns on his head and say he was from here and he did this and blah, blah, blah. But at the end of the day, he died for us. It didn't matter what his race was. He died for us.
