This is Eleanor discussing a storybook session called Nature Town. She explains the props needed and the rules for the session. The story is about three friends who learn about wildlife and ways to protect animals. Each friend encounters different environmental issues and comes up with solutions. They all work together to make changes in their school. The session ends with a reminder to wash hands and return to their teacher. Hi guys, it's Eleanor here and today we're going to be going over the storybook session Nature Town. For this session you will need your snake, tarantula, rat, frog and cockroaches. The prop that you'll need for this session is just your Nature Town storybook. Starting out any session like you would, having your audience arranged in a semicircle, you sat at the front showing the storybook to the audience. And just introducing yourself with Hi guys, so my name is Eleanor and I have come from Zoolab today. Now I've brought with me an amazing story called Nature Town and in this story are lots of animals. Now we're going to be meeting the animals as they come up in the story and some of the animals you can hold in your hands, you can stroke or you can just have a look at. If you want to hold them just put your hands out nice and flat. But just before we get started with our story we do have three super easy but really important rules. The first rule is we do need to stay nice and quiet so we don't scare any of the animals. The second rule is we are all going to stick to our spots so everybody can see the story and the animals as well. The third rule is once you finish touching an animal, keep your hands away from your faces and give them a really good wash at the end. So starting your story, my story is about some friends, a group of three. School friends they are, Ben, Jane and Henry. Nature Town is where they go to school. They all sit together in their class which is cool. The week of school term is Eco Week to think about wildlife and take a peek. Look at all the things that we can all do to protect animals from the harm they come to. Henry picked up the books from class. He headed outside down the sports field path. As he got closer to the edge of the track he noticed there were tyres and plastic sacks. He couldn't believe just how much stuff was there. He thought of the animals and it just wasn't fair. He spotted a snake slithering through the mess. Being stuck in rubbish could cause a lot of stress. Henry knew the class can't delay in picking up the litter in turns every day. So this is where you would introduce your snake and do your snake handling giving your general snake facts. Today is the day for Ben to take a look around the school with the class eco book. He wandered into the classroom next door. He finds plastic bottles and glitter galore. He writes it all down in the book in his hand. Ben knows plastic's bad in the sea and on land. Animals get stuck in it or swallow the plastic. Glitter's bad too. It is just as drastic. It may be quite small but birds and sea life think the glitter is food and end up in strife. Bottles on the ground mean trouble ahead for mammals like rats who just want to be fed. Let's use less plastic says Ben back in class. Reusable bottles shouts Jane with a blast. Then I would just introduce your rat or gerbil taking your rat or gerbil round doing your general facts and doing your handling as well. It's Jane's turn today to take charge of the book to go outside and take an eco look. She walked past the playground and big sand pit across the field to the hedgerow just past it. Jane finds a small frog sat alone on a stone. He looks very tired and far away from home. The nearest frog pond is far far away. It's way past the field and the barn full of hay. Wildlife pond Jane writes in the school log. A washing up bowl can be home to a frog. Then introducing your frog doing your frog facts taking them around in their box. Henry was eco book holder today. His job was to look for new changes to stay. That morning the topic they had all learnt about was the rainforest and the problems throughout. Chocolate, wood, fruit, rubber and palm oil are just some of the things that make us spoil. A lovely giant forest which is so full of life for mammals, birds, insects and spiders. What's not to like? We cut down the trees and destroy where they live. We must recycle what we can. Let's give. Then introducing your tarantula taking your tarantula around in their box doing your general tarantula facts. Ben has the book. He kept his eye out at lunch. Food was left from pupils with no room to munch. Dinner ladies scraped away all the old food. What a waste for an animal that we could all include. Ben thinks hard about things the school could change. With animals to feed what could they arrange? He reads about animals that live underground. Worms and beetles that help to break down. The food scraps placed in a big compost heap. That's what we'll do thought Ben. An idea to keep. Then introducing your cockroach taking your cockroach around doing your handling and just your general cockroach facts. Jane set out across the school ground. The birds were tweeting. It was the only sound. She couldn't hear bees buzzing as they should be. Just a robin singing his heart out with glee. Jane scratched her head and looked to the right. No butterflies here or bees in sight. Nothing left either. Nothing fluttering past. But why? Jane thought. This seems daft. Ah bugs need nectar from flowers to feed. That's what we need. Some wildflower seeds. They took the book and talked through the list of things they must change in the school to assist. Ben had plastic and compost to lead. Jane had the frog pond and wildflower seed. Henry was monitor of paper in class and the litter outside by the sports field path. We all worked together to do what we could to protect our environment which is what we should. So then to finish just thank you guys that was a lovely story and I really hope you enjoyed it and meeting all the amazing animals as well. There is just one last thing we need to do now. That's right we need to wash our hands and then pass your audience back to their teacher and that would be the end to your session.
