This is episode 7 and I'm your host Allie Pearl and today we have a fun one. As we dwindle down on this series and this semester, today I'm kind of just going to wrap up a lot of my thoughts and kind of just an overall picture of leadership going into the social change model and I'm going to be breaking that down element by element of how I have had an experience at my college career a really meaningful experience to me but how each of these values correlates to my experience so I'm really excited about it. The experience I'm describing today I have already talked about before but today I'm just going to really dive into it with each of the values from the social change model so without any further ado let's go ahead and hop right on into the episode. So today like I kind of hit on I'm going to be talking about three values from each area of the social change model that resonated with me during my leadership journey at Virginia Tech and the journey I'm going to be talking about is my experience serving on the executive board of my sorority as the co-recruitment chair so I worked with one other person I was the front of house of recruitment she was the back of house so we worked hand-in-hand the entire time we were on the executive board no way I could have done it on my own she was amazing to work with and super super helpful and like I just said no way I could have done anything I accomplished on my own so I'm so grateful for her and having the opportunity to work with her throughout my time on the EB but first off I'm going to dive into each one of the values from the model so we have the individual value the group value and then the society value and then each one of those values has an element I'm going to dive into so for the individual value I'm going to be talking about commitment and commitment is super super important for any task at hand because you have to be super committed to the task at hand and for us that was putting on the best recruitment possible for our chapter COVID kind of shut down recruitment in-person recruitment at least so my partner Bruna was her name and I put on the first in-person recruitment in two years so no one had seen an in-person recruitment in a long long time so we had to be fully committed to dive into any challenge any hardship that we may have faced along the way to put on the best recruitment possible if we weren't fully committed to the task project or position it would have showed and we would not have wanted that for our chapter to see for just any individuals any advisors or nationals whoever it may be we would not want to see let them see that we are not fully committed to our task at hand and why does this value matter being committed being committed to something what is the significance behind it so I want to be a leader that people can recognize how much I care about whatever I'm working on I want people to see that I am fully committed to anything and everything that I do and I want them to see how passionate about the project I am and if they see how passionate I am maybe it can motivate them to be more driven and passionate on their own how can this value of commitment extend to my post-grad life well any employer that I work with in the future I want to show them that I can give a hundred ten percent to anything that I do moving on to the group value I'm going to be diving into collaboration and as I kind of touched on before Bruna and I worked together the entire time we were recruitment chairs and I cannot stress how much I exercise this section of the social change model I worked with her on everything that we did we made every single decision together and we needed to be seen as one person essentially so that people could respect us as a duo every decision that was made went through both of us if someone asked me a question I asked her about it before responding honestly it was the best communication I have ever experienced in a professional setting essentially and I could not be more grateful for that because we essentially did everything seamlessly and we just had a great dynamic of working with one another so I learned this value through pure experience in this position as a recruitment chair and even though Bruna and I were not best friends that did not affect our ability to work well together we did not want people to even know that we weren't best friends or really hung out outside of our sorority but we did not want to let people see it through any of the cracks and there really weren't any cracks but we didn't have much of a personal relationship more so as a strictly professional one but that was completely fine so this kind of correlates directly to post-grad life because even though her and I were not best friends we worked extremely well together and I proved to myself that I can work with anyone and be successful in very high-stress situations and finally I'm going to be looking at the single society value of citizenship so this really allowed me to always think that there is a bigger task at hand and more so why I do what I do why did I run a recruitment why did I put myself in such a high-stress position of leadership it's just because I always know that there's a bigger task at hand and I wanted to be on the executive board and a recruitment chair to give back to the chapter that gave so much to me I was a part of this chapter but it gave me best friends for life memories laughs experiences everything that I dreamed of coming from college and being a part essentially a citizen of my sorority I just wanted to give back so just knowing that there is always something bigger at hand and it's not always about myself it's really never about myself and being in this position of leadership really allowed me to give back to the chapter that gave so much to me so I always know that there is a greater good so from our executive board to our chapter to Panhellenic there's always moving up more levels and really just showcasing our chapter to the community to the potential new members and the best lens possible was really the task at hand so post-grad life why decision citizenship and the society value even matter because I can improve the world around me wherever I go I can always thrive and be very driven to push myself to work with those around me and just always try to better the environment that I am working in so thank you all so much for listening today I know that was a really quick rundown of the social change model we talked about it my entire time in this class and the leadership minor and it has been amazing for me to reflect on the experiences I've had and just my time at Tech and how I found myself in
